Houthis claim missile and drone attack on Saudi oil tankers

Yemen’s Houthi movement has claimed responsibility for attacking two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea, marking a major escalation in regional tensions and raising fresh concerns over the security of one of the world’s busiest maritime trade routes.

Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree said the group targeted the tankers, identified as ENCELA and LAYLIA, because they allegedly violated the maritime blockade the Houthis imposed on Saudi Arabia earlier this week.

According to the spokesperson, the operation involved ballistic missiles, cruise missiles and drones. He claimed the strikes caused fires aboard both vessels and forced nearly 10 other commercial ships to abandon their planned routes and turn back.

Saudi authorities have not officially commented on the Houthi claims.

However, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), which monitors maritime security in the region, confirmed receiving a report from the captain of a tanker that an unidentified projectile had struck the vessel, sparking a fire. The crew managed to respond to the incident, and no casualties or environmental damage have been reported.

The attack comes just days after the Houthis announced a maritime blockade against Saudi Arabia, saying the move was retaliation for recent military actions in Yemen. The group accused Riyadh of maintaining a long-standing blockade on areas under Houthi control and vowed to respond with similar measures at sea.

The latest developments have increased fears over shipping through the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, a strategic waterway linking the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden. The route is vital for global energy supplies and international trade, carrying millions of barrels of crude oil and petroleum products every day.

Shipping security in the region has already been under pressure because of wider Middle East tensions. Any prolonged disruption in the Bab al-Mandeb Strait could further affect global oil markets, increase transport costs and delay commercial shipping.

Beatles film cast resumes filming at Abbey Road after setback

Barry Keoghan, Paul Mescal, Joseph Quinn and Harris Dickinson have resumed filming for Sam Mendes’ highly anticipated Beatles film after production faced a major setback involving one of the most historic locations connected to the legendary band. On Sunday, August 16, the four actors were seen filming outside Abbey Road Studios in London, dressed in suits as they worked on scenes for the upcoming project. Their appearance at the iconic location marks an important moment for the production, particularly because Abbey Road holds a special place in the history of the Beatles. The famous recording studio is closely associated with the band, which recorded much of its music there. Abbey Road also became the name of the Beatles’ 1969 studio album, one of the most celebrated records in music history. The album was the final studio album recorded by the group, although Let It Be was released afterward. Much of the material for Let It Be had already been recorded before the sessions for Abbey Road. The new film project will see the four actors step into the roles of the legendary Beatles members. Barry Keoghan is set to portray drummer Ringo Starr, while Paul Mescal will play Paul McCartney. Joseph Quinn will take on the role of guitarist George Harrison, with Harris Dickinson portraying singer and songwriter John Lennon. The actors’ latest filming appearance comes after concerns over whether production would be allowed to take place at Abbey Road. Director Sam Mendes had previously revealed that Westminster Council was not initially permitting filming at the location, creating uncertainty around plans to recreate scenes connected to the Beatles’ history. However, the situation was later resolved, with filming ultimately going ahead at Abbey Road. The development allowed Mendes and his production team to use the historic location for scenes featuring the four actors portraying the iconic band members. The project, officially titled The Beatles: A Four-Film Cinematic Event, was announced as an ambitious new take on the story of the legendary British rock band. Rather than focusing on the Beatles as a group through a single traditional biographical film, the project is planned as four interconnected movies, with each installment focusing on one member of the band. The production is particularly significant because it has received the support and participation of the Beatles’ surviving members and the families of the late members. Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr, along with the families of John Lennon and George Harrison, have granted rights connected to the project. The star-studded cast extends beyond the four leading actors. Aimee Lou Wood, Anna Sawai and James Norton are also among the performers involved in the highly anticipated production, with additional cast members expected to appear. Despite the growing excitement surrounding the project and the latest filming activity, the official release date has not yet been announced. Fans will have to wait for further details from Mendes and the production team as work continues on the ambitious Beatles film series.

Stephen Baldwin explains why he chose faith over H…

Stephen Baldwin has opened up about one of the biggest decisions of his career, revealing why he stepped away from mainstream Hollywood despite enjoying major success in the 1990s. The actor said he deliberately chose a different path from fellow movie star Tom Cruise, explaining that fame and blockbuster success were never his ultimate goals.  Baldwin, now 60, reflected on his career in a recent interview with People, looking back at the period following his acclaimed performance in the Oscar-winning film The Usual Suspects. At the time, many believed he was on track to become one of Hollywood’s biggest stars. Instead, Baldwin said he decided to walk away from that path after experiencing a profound change in his personal life.  “I didn’t want to be Tom Cruise and have to make $100 million at the box office,” Baldwin said, adding that he preferred living a simpler life over chasing blockbuster success. He stressed that the comment was not intended as criticism of Cruise but as an explanation of his own priorities and ambitions.  According to Baldwin, everything changed in the early 2000s when he became a born-again Christian. His spiritual journey began after a Brazilian housekeeper working for his family shared what he described as a prophetic message, saying he and his wife, Kennya Baldwin, would one day dedicate their lives to ministry. Although skeptical at first, Baldwin said his perspective shifted after attending Christian events with his sister Beth Baldwin.  One event featuring Christian skateboarders particularly inspired him. The experience led him to create Livin It, a faith-based skateboarding video that combined extreme sports with Christian teachings. The project became a success and eventually grew into a nationwide ministry that took Baldwin to more than 125 churches over four years. That, he said, was the moment he realized his future was no longer in mainstream Hollywood.  Since then, Baldwin has focused on producing faith-based content while remaining active through podcasts, speaking engagements and independent projects. He admitted that his outspoken religious beliefs and political views may have made him less appealing to traditional Hollywood studios, but he has no regrets about the direction his life has taken.  The actor also credited his family for keeping him grounded. Married to Kennya Baldwin since 1990, he said his wife has been his “anchor,” while describing his faith as the foundation of everything he does. As the father of Hailey Bieber and grandfather to two young children, Baldwin said family remains his greatest blessing.  Looking back, Baldwin believes choosing purpose over fame was the right decision. While his career could have followed a more conventional Hollywood trajectory, he says he found greater fulfillment by dedicating his life to faith, family and meaningful work. Rather than measuring success by box office numbers, Baldwin now defines it through the impact he can have on others and remains convinced that his best years are still ahead.

Salman Akram Raja denies PTI link to man killed in…

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Salman Akram Raja has denied any known connection between the party and the man who was killed during a security incident in Rawalpindi, saying the party does not know which group the deceased belonged to or what actions he may have been involved in. Speaking about the incident, Raja said PTI was a peaceful political party and strongly opposed terrorism. He stressed that the party had never had any connection with terrorist activity and was pursuing its political struggle within the framework of the Constitution and law. “We do not know which group the man who was killed in Rawalpindi belonged to or what his actions were,” Raja said, according to reports. His comments came after a man was killed following an incident involving gunfire at security personnel on Mall Road in Rawalpindi. Police said a suspect opened fire on security forces, injuring a member of a patrol team before the suspect was killed. The incident has sparked a political dispute over the identity and political affiliation of the deceased. PTI leader Shafi Jan separately claimed that the man killed on Mall Road was a PTI worker. The claim contrasts with Raja’s statement that he did not know which group the deceased belonged to. The differing statements have added to questions surrounding the man’s identity and alleged activities. Raja also rejected any suggestion that PTI was involved in violent activity, saying the party was committed to pursuing its political objectives through constitutional and legal means. On the possibility of negotiations with the government, the PTI secretary general said there was currently no government offer on the table. However, he maintained that the party had never rejected negotiations on principle. Raja was also questioned about PTI Senator Shumail Yousafzai. He explained that she had not been removed from the party because the leadership did not want to create further divisions within PTI. He claimed that Yousafzai was not acting alone and had a group of people supporting her. Meanwhile, the Rawalpindi incident has become part of a broader political debate over security, terrorism and the role of political parties in Pakistan. Government officials and opposition figures have offered sharply different interpretations of PTI’s political conduct. The conflicting claims regarding the deceased man’s affiliation are likely to keep the issue in the spotlight as authorities investigate the circumstances surrounding the Rawalpindi shooting and determine the identity and background of the person who was killed.

Andrew Garfield heaps praise on Tom Holland’s Sp…

Andrew Garfield has made it clear that there is nothing but admiration between the actors who have worn Spider-Man’s famous red-and-blue suit. The Amazing Spider-Man star recently opened up about Tom Holland’s portrayal of the beloved Marvel superhero, describing him as an “incredible actor” and expressing genuine excitement for Holland’s continued success as Peter Parker. Speaking during a promotional appearance for his latest film, Garfield was asked about Holland’s time as Spider-Man. Rather than comparing their performances, the Oscar-nominated actor focused on praising his successor, saying, “I love him,” while applauding Holland’s talent and dedication to the role. Garfield also said he is looking forward to seeing Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the latest installment in Holland’s Marvel journey.  Garfield portrayed Peter Parker in The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) and its 2014 sequel before passing the torch to Holland, who officially joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2016. Although each actor has brought a different interpretation to the web-slinging hero, Garfield believes the character is in safe hands. Calling Holland an “incredible actor,” Garfield praised the emotional depth and energy he brings to Spider-Man. His comments reflect the respect that has long existed between the two stars, both on and off screen.  The pair famously shared the screen alongside Tobey Maguire in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, a film that united three generations of Spider-Man for the first time. Garfield previously described the experience as one of the most joyful moments of his career, saying it felt like celebrating the character’s enduring legacy rather than competing over it. During his latest interview, he joked that while he was simply enjoying the ride, Holland had the difficult task of carrying the film’s emotional weight.  Garfield’s supportive remarks come as excitement builds around Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which marks Holland’s latest outing as the iconic superhero. Fans have also continued to speculate about whether Garfield could one day return to the Marvel universe, though the actor has remained playful and noncommittal whenever asked about future appearances.  For Spider-Man fans, Garfield’s latest comments are another reminder that there is no rivalry between the actors behind the mask. Instead, there is mutual respect and appreciation for the responsibility of portraying one of the world’s most beloved superheroes. As Holland continues to lead the franchise, Garfield says he will be cheering him on—proof that once you’re part of the Spider-Man family, the bond never really disappears.
