Ian McKellen surprised Anthony Mackie played Captain America

Anthony Mackie has shared a lighthearted behind-the-scenes story from the set of Avengers: Doomsday, revealing that veteran actor Sir Ian McKellen did not realize he was playing Captain America when the two first met.

While speaking during San Diego Comic-Con, Mackie recalled his first interaction with the legendary actor, describing it as one of the most memorable moments of filming.

According to Mackie, he introduced himself to McKellen with admiration, telling the acclaimed actor how honored he was to work alongside him. McKellen greeted him warmly before asking a simple question about his role in the upcoming Marvel film.

Mackie said McKellen asked, “So what are you doing in the film?” to which he replied, “I’m Captain America.”

The exchange left Mackie amused, especially considering his character has been the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Captain America for several years.

Sam Wilson, portrayed by Mackie, officially became Captain America after Steve Rogers, played by Chris Evans, passed him the iconic shield at the end of Avengers: Endgame. Since then, Wilson has embraced the mantle, taking on the responsibility of leading a new generation of heroes while forging his own identity as Captain America.

Despite now being one of Marvel’s leading stars, Mackie admitted that he still feels starstruck when working with legendary actors. He said sharing the screen with performers like Ian McKellen remains a surreal experience, regardless of his own success within the franchise.

McKellen is returning as Magneto, reprising one of the most iconic roles from the X-Men film series. His appearance in Avengers: Doomsday is part of Marvel Studios’ ambitious plan to bring together characters from multiple superhero franchises for the first time in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

According to the board, the disciplinary action was taken after a three-member inquiry committee investigated the matter and submitted its findings. The PCB stated that Hamza failed to provide complete and accurate information, submitted misleading details and concealed material facts during the application process. The board added that the player was given a full opportunity to present his explanation before the committee reached its decision. Reaffirming its commitment to integrity and transparency, the PCB said it treats cases involving misrepresentation, concealment of facts and misleading information with the utmost seriousness. “The PCB will not allow any individual to damage the reputation of the board, Pakistan cricket or its fans,” the statement said. Al Marri said medical check-ups would be provided free of charge. Dental treatment would also be available. The immigration chief said officials would help people who were facing difficulties in returning to their home countries. Authorities would work to address the issues preventing them from travelling back. Dubai Immigration has also launched a new centre to assist stranded tourists and people looking for employment in the emirate. Al Marri said tourists and job seekers should be treated as guests. He stressed that authorities were committed to listening to their concerns and helping them resolve their problems.

    Pakistan monsoon death toll hits 110

    The death toll from monsoon rains, flash floods and landslides across Pakistan has risen to 110, according to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). The authority said 360 people have been injured in rain-related incidents since June 26. Nearly 800 houses have also been damaged across the country. Most fatalities have been reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, followed by Punjab. Several areas have also faced flooding and damage caused by heavy rainfall. The NDMA briefed Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on the latest situation. The authority warned that northern parts of the country could face more flash floods and glacial lake outburst floods in the coming weeks. Rapidly melting glaciers have increased the risk in mountainous areas. Authorities have been asked to remain prepared for sudden flooding and other weather-related emergencies. Prime Minister Shehbaz directed officials to use all available resources to protect lives and property. He also stressed the importance of early warning systems and timely emergency measures. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast another strong monsoon spell from July 29. The system is expected to affect Islamabad, upper Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. The upper catchment areas of major rivers may also receive heavy rainfall. The weather system is expected to continue until August 5. The weather department has warned of possible urban flooding. Rising water levels in rivers, hill streams and nullahs are also expected in vulnerable areas. Authorities have urged residents to remain cautious and follow official warnings during the latest spell of rainfall. Meanwhile, the Punjab Home Department has imposed Section 144 across the province for 60 days. The restrictions ban swimming, bathing and unauthorised boating at various water bodies. Pakistan faces heavy monsoon rainfall every year between late June and September. The season frequently causes flooding, landslides, infrastructure damage and loss of life.
