Jon Bernthal reveals why he distanced himself from family for ‘The Punisher’

Jon Bernthal has opened up about the personal cost of playing Frank Castle in The Punisher. The actor admitted that he chose to isolate himself from his wife and children while working on the intense Marvel series.

The Punisher is a standalone show built around Bernthal’s widely praised performance as the vigilante antihero. Frank Castle is a dark, violent character, and stepping into that role required Bernthal to shift into a completely different mental space than his everyday life.

To keep that darkness from spilling into his home life, Bernthal made a deliberate choice. He kept his distance from his wife, Erin Angle, and their kids throughout filming. According to him, this was about protecting his family from the emotional shadow of the character he was playing.

Speaking candidly with Howard Stern, Bernthal explained his process in detail. He said isolation becomes necessary during these projects, and that his wife remains the one person he still talks to regularly. He added that it wouldn’t feel right to be out socialising at restaurants or bars while simultaneously embodying a character defined by grief and violence.

The 49-year-old actor also reflected on how this affects his bond with his children. He admitted that staying away from them has only grown harder over time. He said he does not want them around him while he is still mentally carrying the weight of such a heavy role. Even so, he made it clear that his love for them remains as strong as ever.

Bernthal didn’t shy away from the practical realities of parenting either. He joked about the never-ending costs that come with raising young kids, specifically mentioning diapers. He added that if he’s going to spend time away from his children for work, he wants that time to genuinely count for something.

Beyond The Punisher, Bernthal recently returned to the role of Frank Castle in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. The film, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, also stars Tom Holland.

Through this conversation, Bernthal gave fans a rare and honest look into what it really takes to fully commit to such a demanding role, and the personal sacrifices that often come along with it, both for himself and for the family waiting for him at home.

Trump’s look-alike spotted behind president sparks internet frenzy

President Donald Trump has a doppelganger, and the internet can not stop talking about it. A mystery man bearing a striking resemblance to Trump has gone viral online. His face does not actually look like Trump’s but his height, posture, and signature style all seem to match perfectly. The clip first caught attention during a World Cup event. Trump was speaking to reporters about the tournament’s final and oddly enough, his words were not what stole the spotlight. It was the man standing behind him who grabbed everyone’s focus. Jon Stewart picked up on the moment during a segment on The Daily Show. He could not hide his shock at the resemblance and jokingly asked if there was a backup version of Trump on standby. He kept replaying the clip, clearly stunned by how much the man’s build and stance matched the president’s. Stewart even joked he was not sure which one was the real Trump anymore. The clip quickly spread across social media, and users had their own theories. Some pointed to a popular show called Inside Job, which features a fictional robotic clone of a president. One viewer even suggested fans check it out, calling some of its ideas surprisingly close to reality. Other users had simpler explanations. Someone suggested the man was likely a body double hired for security reasons. Another commenter guessed the man could be John Solomon, a controversial political figure known for his election-related claims tied to the White House. Despite the wave of guesses, most people online landed on one theory. Many believe the man is actually Viktor Knavs, Melania Trump’s father. Reports note that Knavs was indeed present at the World Cup final, which lines up with the timing of the viral clip. Still, nobody has officially confirmed who the man really is. The White House has not commented on the viral footage, and the mystery man himself has not come forward. For now, the internet is left buzzing with speculation, memes, and half-joking conspiracy theories. Whether it is a security double, a family member, or simply an odd coincidence, the resemblance has proven impossible to ignore. One thing is certain, the video has given social media plenty to talk about this week.

Heavy rains trigger flash floods in Gilgit-Baltist…

Torrential rainfall has caused widespread destruction across Gilgit-Baltistan, disrupting transportation networks as flash floods and landslides washed away roads, bridges, and vital infrastructure in several districts. The extreme weather conditions have left thousands of people, including tourists, stranded as major routes connecting different parts of the mountainous region were blocked. Authorities have advised travelers to avoid unnecessary journeys due to ongoing risks from floods and landslides. According to officials, several important roads, including the Karakoram Highway, Babusar Road, Baltistan Road, Naltar Highway, Ghizer-Shandur Road, and Astore Valley Road, have been affected by flooding and landslides. The Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority (GBDMA) reported that the Karakoram Highway was blocked at multiple locations between Dassu and the Hunza-Nagar areas, creating difficulties for commuters and relief teams. In Skardu’s Rondu subdivision, severe flooding in the Tormak Nallah area damaged important communication bridges, including the Malan Bridge. Several roads, agricultural lands, crops, and other infrastructure were also affected in Kharmang, Ghanche, and Shigar districts. Flooding also disrupted electricity and water supply systems in areas including Astore, Tangir, and Thore in Diamer district. Communication services were affected, while irrigation channels, drinking water schemes, and protective structures suffered damage. Several villages were cut off, and dozens of families were forced to leave their homes due to floods and landslides. Authorities moved vulnerable residents to safer locations and started relief operations in affected areas. The situation also affected Ghizer district, where temporary road closures, localized flooding, and damage to houses were reported. Rising water levels in the Hunza-Nagar River increased risks for residents in Gilgit’s Jutal area. The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast further rainfall in the region and warned about the possibility of glacial lake outburst floods (GLOFs) until July 26. The Gilgit-Baltistan Disaster Management Authority, district administrations, Rescue 1122, and other departments are working together to provide emergency assistance. Officials said affected families are being provided with tents, food supplies, medicines, and clean drinking water. Heavy machinery has also been deployed to restore damaged roads, bridges, and other infrastructure. Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Amjad Hussain has directed authorities to speed up relief and rehabilitation activities and remain alert around the clock to protect lives and property. The chief minister also emphasized the need for stronger disaster preparedness, saying that climate change has increased the risks of flash floods, landslides, and glacial lake outburst floods in the region. Authorities are coordinating with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) to improve emergency response measures and monitor glacier-related risks through scientific and technological systems. The ongoing situation highlights the growing impact of climate-related disasters in Gilgit-Baltistan, where communities continue to face increasing threats from extreme weather events.

Israeli lawyer calls Silwan demolitions ‘ethnic …

JERUSALEM: A new British media report has renewed international attention on the disputed East Jerusalem neighbourhood of Silwan, where the demolition of Palestinian homes and land disputes continue to fuel tensions between Israeli authorities and Palestinian residents. According to the report, a prominent Israeli lawyer described Israel’s policy of removing Palestinians from their ancestral homes in Silwan as comparable to “ethnic cleansing,” adding to the growing debate over housing rights and displacement in the occupied territory. The report states that the continued threat of home demolitions has left many Palestinian families living in constant uncertainty, affecting their daily lives, financial stability and emotional well-being. Residents say they fear losing homes that have been in their families for generations. Palestinians living in Silwan argue that Israeli authorities frequently classify their properties as unauthorised constructions, leading to demolition orders that they consider unfair and discriminatory. Many residents say obtaining building permits is extremely difficult, leaving families vulnerable to eviction and the destruction of their homes. The issue of demolitions in East Jerusalem has remained one of the most contentious aspects of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, drawing criticism from international human rights organisations and foreign governments. Rights groups have repeatedly expressed concern that such actions contribute to the displacement of Palestinian communities and alter the demographic balance of the area. The latest report also comes amid continued regional tensions, with accusations of ceasefire violations and ongoing diplomatic efforts to prevent further escalation in the conflict. Israeli authorities have consistently maintained that demolitions are carried out in accordance with municipal planning and building regulations, arguing that structures built without the required permits are subject to legal enforcement regardless of the owners’ identity. Silwan, located just south of Jerusalem’s Old City, remains one of the most sensitive areas in the decades-long conflict, with competing historical, religious and political claims. As international scrutiny grows, the situation in Silwan continues to highlight the broader challenges surrounding housing rights, land ownership and the future of Palestinian communities in East Jerusalem.

Nick Reiner denied $1.5 million trust fund access

Nick Reiner has suffered another legal and financial setback following his indictment in connection with the deaths of his parents, filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife, Michelle Reiner. The 32-year-old writer is reportedly being denied access to a trust fund worth more than $1.5 million as he prepares to fight the serious criminal charges against him. According to a report published on Saturday, August 15, a new trustee overseeing Reiner’s trust has refused his request to withdraw money from the account. Reiner had sought access to the funds to help cover his legal expenses and pay for basic necessities while he remains in custody. The decision is reportedly based on California’s so-called “slayer statute.” Such laws are designed to prevent an individual from financially benefiting from the death of someone they are accused of intentionally killing. The statute can restrict a person’s ability to inherit or receive assets connected to the alleged victim. Reiner’s trust was established by his parents after his birth in 1993 and is now valued at more than $1.5 million. In a court filing, Reiner claimed that he was expected to receive half of the trust once he reached the age of 30. However, he said that the money had never been transferred to him. He is now seeking access to the funds, arguing that they are needed to pay his attorneys and support himself while incarcerated. His request reportedly includes money for his commissary account, which he said would allow him to purchase everyday necessities such as socks and personal hygiene products. The dispute over the trust comes shortly after prosecutors secured an indictment against Reiner in the deaths of his parents. On Wednesday, August 12, a Los Angeles grand jury reportedly indicted him on two counts of first-degree murder. The charges relate to the deaths of Rob and Michelle Reiner. Prosecutors presented evidence to the grand jury, which ultimately determined that there was sufficient evidence for the case to proceed toward trial. The indictment also reportedly includes a special circumstance allegation of “lying in wait.” Prosecutors allege that Reiner deliberately waited for his parents before attacking them when they were vulnerable or unaware. The additional allegation could significantly increase the potential consequences if Reiner is ultimately convicted. Depending on how the case proceeds and the applicable sentencing rules, a conviction involving such circumstances could expose him to extremely severe punishment, including life imprisonment without parole or potentially the death penalty. For now, Reiner remains entitled to the presumption of innocence, and the allegations against him have yet to be proven in court. His ongoing legal battle now involves not only the murder charges but also an effort to gain access to the substantial trust established by his parents.
