Anil Kapoor misses Satish Kaushik in heartfelt Friendship day note

Anil Kapoor has shared a heartfelt tribute to his late friend Satish Kaushik, who passed away in 2023. The veteran actor took to Instagram to mark Friendship Day with an emotional message dedicated to him.

Along with his note, Kapoor posted a nostalgic clip from one of the films he made with Kaushik. The clip brought back memories of their years spent working together and building a lasting friendship.

Kapoor began his caption by wishing his followers a happy Friendship Day. He then shifted his focus to Kaushik, writing that he was missing his dear friend deeply on this particular day.

He went on to reflect on what made their bond so special. According to Kapoor, everyone has that one friend they turn to during frustrating moments, sad days, or simply when they need a laugh. He said Satish was exactly that person for him. Their conversations, he explained, never needed to go beyond that comfortable, easy space friends naturally share.

Kapoor also spoke fondly about Kaushik’s talent. He recalled his humour, his infectious energy, and the sense of positivity he always brought into any room he entered.

Towards the end of his note, Kapoor reflected on how rare true friendships like theirs really are. He described them as a blessing rather than something people should ever take for granted. He said that on this particular Friendship Day, his thoughts were with Kaushik. He then closed the post with a simple, heartfelt message, wishing his late friend a happy Friendship Day and expressing his love for him.

Over the years, Kapoor and Kaushik shared the screen together in several memorable films. These included Deewana Mastana, Mr. India, and Thar. Their real-life friendship often carried the same warmth that fans saw in their on-screen collaborations.

Kaushik passed away at the age of 66 on March 9, 2023, following a sudden heart attack. His death came as a major shock, both to the film industry and to fans who had grown up watching his work over the decades.

Even years after his passing, heartfelt tributes like this one from Kapoor continue to show just how deeply Kaushik’s presence and friendship are still missed by those who knew him best.

Trump says Iran serious about talks but not ready …

US President Donald Trump has said Iran is showing greater seriousness toward negotiations than before, but cautioned that Tehran is still not prepared to reach a final agreement with Washington. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said communication between the United States and Iran remains ongoing, although the prospects for an immediate breakthrough are still uncertain. According to media reports, the US president noted that Iran’s approach has changed compared with earlier stages of the diplomatic process, describing the country’s current attitude toward negotiations as more constructive. “Iran appears to be taking the talks more seriously than before,” Trump said, while emphasizing that a final deal is not yet within reach. He added that although discussions are continuing, significant progress is still needed before both sides can arrive at a mutually acceptable agreement. Trump said his administration remains committed to pursuing diplomatic efforts and is closely monitoring developments. He stressed that the coming days and weeks would be important in determining whether the ongoing contacts can lead to meaningful progress. The latest remarks come amid continued tensions between Washington and Tehran, with diplomatic channels remaining active despite months of regional instability and military confrontations. While both sides have maintained communication, key differences over major issues have continued to prevent a comprehensive agreement. Neither US officials nor Iranian authorities have announced any new breakthrough in the negotiations following Trump’s comments. Analysts say Trump’s latest assessment may signal cautious optimism, but they also note that complex disputes remain unresolved. They believe any potential agreement would require extensive negotiations and compromises from both sides before a deal could be finalized. For now, Trump’s message suggests that while diplomacy remains alive, expectations for an immediate agreement should remain measured. Observers will be watching closely for any signs of further progress as discussions continue, with the outcome likely to have significant implications for regional stability and US-Iran relations.

Bank of Punjab Board approves Up to Rs30bn equity injection by Punjab government

LAHORE: The Board of Directors of The Bank of Punjab (BOP) has approved a proposal for an equity injection of up to Rs30 billion by the Government of Punjab, a move aimed at strengthening the bank’s capital position and supporting its next phase of expansion. The decision was taken at a board meeting held on August 7, 2026. Under the proposal, the Punjab government will subscribe to ordinary shares to be issued by the bank through a mechanism other than a rights issue. The proposed transaction will not take effect immediately and remains conditional on obtaining all required statutory, corporate, shareholder and regulatory approvals. According to the bank, the planned capital injection is an important step in its broader transformation strategy and will provide additional financial capacity to support sustainable growth across its key business segments. Share issuance price The ordinary shares will initially be issued at Rs38.20 per share. However, if the market price of BOP shares is higher than this amount at the time of issuance, the shares will be issued at the prevailing market price plus a premium of 5 percent. As a result, Rs38.20 will serve as the minimum or floor price for the proposed share issuance. The transaction is expected to reinforce the bank’s capital base and provide greater flexibility to manage balance-sheet expansion while maintaining prudent financial and risk-management standards. BOP expands its market presence The Bank of Punjab has undergone significant changes in recent years, with the institution expanding its balance sheet, improving financial performance and strengthening its position across several sectors of Pakistan’s economy. The bank has developed a strong presence in areas including small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) financing, agricultural lending, affordable housing, digital banking and credit cards. It has also increased its focus on women’s participation and leadership in banking and financial services. BOP is further expanding its activities in commercial and corporate banking, particularly in areas linked to export-oriented businesses. The bank said these business segments have positioned it as an important participant in supporting economic activity, employment creation and financial inclusion across the country. Capital requirements rise with expansion Despite the bank’s growth, the rapid expansion of its operations has increased pressure on its existing capital base. BOP said its capital position has historically remained relatively limited compared with the size of its operations and the growth opportunities available to the institution. The proposed Rs30 billion injection is therefore expected to provide the bank with additional capacity to expand its core businesses while maintaining financial resilience. The additional capital could also enable BOP to increase its low-cost deposit base and grow lending operations without facing the same level of capital constraints. The bank said strengthening its capital position would allow it to pursue growth while maintaining a balanced and prudent approach to balance-sheet management. Strong financial performance The proposed capital injection comes as BOP continues to report strong underlying financial performance. During 2025, the bank recorded revenue growth of around 29 percent, while its earnings increased by more than 40 percent year on year. The bank also witnessed significant appreciation in the value of its shares during the period. According to the bank, the proposed capital raise should therefore be viewed primarily as growth capital rather than a measure aimed at addressing immediate financial weakness. The additional equity is expected to provide the financial foundation required for BOP to continue expanding its operations and investing in new business opportunities. International expansion in focus Another important component of the bank’s future strategy is its international expansion. The capital injection is expected to support the next phase of BOP’s growth, including an international venture that has recently received approval from the State Bank of Pakistan. The move could provide the bank with an opportunity to broaden its geographical footprint and develop new sources of business and revenue. With the proposed equity injection, BOP aims to strengthen its financial position, support expansion in priority sectors and improve its ability to serve businesses, consumers and other customers as demand for banking and financial services continues to grow.

Renoir, Cezanne and Matisse paintings worth $10.4 million recovered in Italy

Three valuable paintings by renowned artists Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Paul Cezanne and Henri Matisse, collectively worth more than $10.4 million, have been recovered after being stolen from an Italian museum earlier this year, police announced on Friday. The artworks were taken in March from the villa of the Magnani-Rocca Foundation, a prominent cultural institution located near Parma in northern Italy. The theft was carried out remarkably quickly, with the entire operation reportedly lasting less than three minutes. The incident attracted significant attention because of the international reputation of the artists whose works were targeted. According to Italian authorities, the investigation into the robbery focused on a group of nine Moldavian nationals suspected of being connected to the crime. Parma Chief of Police Andrea Pagliaro told AFP that investigators believe the gang played different roles in planning and executing the operation. Five of the suspects are accused of physically carrying out the theft inside the museum. Police have released video footage that provides an insight into how the robbery was conducted. The footage shows two masked individuals entering the villa after breaking through a window. Both suspects were wearing headlamps, apparently to help them move through the building during the nighttime operation. Their faces were concealed, making their identification more difficult. Despite the speed of the robbery, investigators continued working to identify those responsible and locate the stolen artworks. The recovery of the paintings represents a major development in the case and prevents the valuable works from disappearing permanently into the international art market. The three artists involved are among the most influential figures in the history of modern European art. Renoir, Cezanne and Matisse produced works that have become highly sought after by museums, collectors and art institutions around the world. Their paintings can command millions of dollars because of their artistic importance, historical significance and rarity. The Magnani-Rocca Foundation, where the paintings were displayed, is known for its important collection of European art. The theft therefore represented not only a significant financial loss but also a serious cultural and security concern. Authorities are continuing their investigation into the suspected gang and are examining the circumstances surrounding the robbery, including how the suspects gained access to the villa and how the paintings were transported away from the scene. The recovery of the artworks is being viewed as a significant success for Italian law enforcement. Police will now seek to establish the precise roles played by each suspect and determine whether additional individuals were involved in organizing or facilitating the theft. The case highlights the continuing challenges faced by museums and cultural institutions in protecting priceless works of art. Even with security measures in place, sophisticated thieves can sometimes exploit weaknesses and carry out carefully planned operations within minutes. The recovery of the Renoir, Cezanne and Matisse paintings, however, ensures that these important works can ultimately return to public view rather than being lost to collectors or criminal networks.

FCC to hear PTI ‘Release Force’ and May 9 case…

The Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) has fixed July 29 for hearing two important petitions linked to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan. The hearings come at a time when PTI is preparing to launch a nationwide campaign demanding the release of its founding chairman. A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Aminuddin Khan will hear a petition challenging the proposed formation of what has been described as the “Imran Khan Release Force.” On the same day, the bench will also hear another petition concerning the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government’s decision to withdraw selected criminal cases related to the May 9, 2023 violence. The first constitutional petition argues that the formation or mobilisation of any organisation under the title of the “Imran Khan Release Force” would be unconstitutional and contrary to Pakistani law. The petitioner has requested the court to declare such an organisation illegal, arguing that private forces or militias are prohibited under the Constitution and relevant legislation. The petition also states that citizens and public office holders are constitutionally bound to remain loyal to the state and act within the framework of the law. It argues that any attempt to organise a private force would violate constitutional principles and existing legal provisions. The issue first came before the court after public statements were made earlier this year regarding the creation of a movement aimed at securing Imran Khan’s release. At that time, the court sought a response from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief minister. The matter has now been scheduled for detailed hearing after several months. However, some legal experts have disputed the interpretation presented in the petition. They argue that the term “Release Force” refers to a political campaign or public movement seeking Imran Khan’s release rather than the creation of any armed organisation. According to their view, there is no proposal to establish a private militia, and the movement has no official connection with the provincial government. The same bench will also hear a petition filed by the Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation (PBC) concerning the attack on Radio Pakistan Peshawar during the May 9 unrest. The petition requests that the criminal case be transferred from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to an anti-terrorism court in Islamabad or another province to ensure an impartial trial. The petitioner argues that political influence and executive interference could affect the fairness of judicial proceedings if the case continues within the province. Earlier, the Federal Constitutional Court issued an interim order preventing the withdrawal of certain May 9-related cases while the matter remains under consideration. Officials from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Law Department have questioned that interim order. They maintain that the provincial government had not yet filed any formal application before the anti-terrorism court seeking withdrawal of cases. According to provincial authorities, the cabinet had only approved the withdrawal of cases considered politically motivated or those lacking sufficient evidence. Provincial officials have stated that 23 out of 29 terrorism-related cases linked to the May 9 incidents have already been decided. They also said that 285 of the 319 cases registered in ordinary courts have been concluded, while the remaining cases are still under trial.

King Charles faces difficult decision over Prince Harry’s reconciliation efforts

King Charles is reportedly facing a sensitive decision as his younger son, Prince Harry, continues efforts to rebuild their relationship. The situation has become particularly complicated because of the possibility that the monarch could make a public appearance with Harry at the Invictus Games when the event returns to the United Kingdom in 2027. The Invictus Games, founded by Prince Harry, are expected to be held in Britain for the first time since their launch. Harry is reportedly hopeful that his father will attend the event, viewing the occasion as a potential opportunity to improve their strained relationship and demonstrate a degree of reconciliation in public. However, the possibility of such an appearance has reportedly triggered considerable discussion within royal circles. Palace insiders are said to be divided over whether Charles’ presence alongside Harry would help repair the family relationship or create additional complications for the monarchy. One of the major concerns reportedly involves the wider public image that could emerge from a highly visible meeting between the King and his son. While an appearance by Charles could provide significant international attention to the Invictus Games, it could also generate renewed media interest in the long-running tensions within the royal family. According to a source familiar with the situation, some observers at the palace have questioned whether a high-profile appearance involving Charles could strengthen Harry’s public position as he continues to raise concerns about security arrangements for himself and his family during visits to the United Kingdom. At the same time, Charles’ involvement could bring considerable benefits to the Invictus Games. The King’s attendance would likely attract global media coverage and provide the event with additional visibility. It would also create powerful images of Charles and Harry standing together after years of reports about tension and distance between them. The situation is reportedly of particular concern to Prince William, who is said to be cautious about any development that could once again place the family dispute at the centre of public attention. William’s reported concerns are partly linked to Harry’s previous public comments about his experiences within the royal family. The Duke of Sussex has spoken openly about his relationship with senior members of the monarchy, including his father and brother, in interviews, documentaries and his memoir. According to reports, William does not necessarily object to Charles maintaining a private relationship with Harry. However, he is said to be uncomfortable with the possibility that private reconciliation efforts could turn into highly publicised royal appearances. The key issue for palace officials, therefore, appears to be whether meetings between Charles and Harry should remain private or whether they should eventually become public engagements. A public appearance could send a strong message that the relationship between father and son is improving. It could also demonstrate unity within the royal family and potentially help reduce speculation about their ongoing differences. However, there is concern that the same images could reignite discussions surrounding the Sussexes and draw renewed attention to Harry’s accusations and disagreements with the royal establishment. William is reportedly comfortable with his father developing or maintaining a personal relationship with Harry away from the cameras. His hesitation centres on the prospect of those private interactions becoming major public events that could shift the media spotlight back onto the family conflict. As the 2027 Invictus Games approach, the decision over Charles’ possible attendance could therefore become more than a question of royal protocol. It may also test how the monarchy balances family reconciliation, public expectations and the need to protect the institution from renewed controversy.
