A young man was killed in Lahore after a dispute between children reportedly escalated into a violent confrontation involving adults and gunfire in the city’s Ghaziabad area. According to police and local reports, the incident took place within the jurisdiction of Ghaziabad Police Station. The trouble reportedly began when children got into an argument while playing. What initially appeared to be a minor dispute soon intensified after adults from the two sides became involved. The disagreement reportedly escalated rapidly with the opposing sides allegedly pulling out firearms. Gunshots were then fired during the confrontation leaving a young man seriously injured. Police said the victim suffered critical injuries in the shooting. He was immediately taken to Services Hospital in Lahore, where doctors attempted to save his life. However, his condition remained critical and he eventually died while receiving treatment. Following the incident, police launched an investigation and took suspects allegedly involved in the shooting into custody. Authorities said legal proceedings have been initiated against those arrested while investigators are working to establish the circumstances that led to the deadly confrontation. Police also completed the necessary legal procedures regarding the victim’s body before handing it over to his family. The incident has highlighted the serious consequences that can arise when minor disagreements turn into violent disputes. Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Ameer Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman has strongly criticized the government’s taxation and energy policies, accusing authorities of placing an unbearable financial burden on ordinary citizens. Addressing participants at a sit-in in Lahore, Hafiz Naeem said people were being economically crushed in the name of petroleum levies, describing the frequent increases in fuel costs as “petrol bombs” being dropped on the public. He said the government attributed rising petroleum prices to higher rates in the international market and argued that importing refined petroleum products had become increasingly expensive. However, he maintained that the resulting burden was ultimately transferred to consumers. The JI chief also criticized the condition of Pakistan’s oil-refining sector, saying successive governments had failed to modernize and upgrade refineries. He pointed out that motorcycle users and other ordinary consumers were also paying petroleum levies, while higher petrol prices eventually pushed up the cost of everyday goods. Hafiz Naeem described the petroleum levy as a form of taxation and argued that the existing system had little connection with the welfare of ordinary people. He also criticized the country’s electricity pricing structure, claiming that consumers were being charged heavily despite relatively low generation costs. He further warned that once an effective judicial system was established, those responsible for governance and financial decisions would face scrutiny. He said audits and trials would reveal the assets and financial dealings of those involved. Hafiz Naeem emphasized that the ongoing sit-in was not aimed at advancing the interests of any individual or political personality. He said the movement was being organized to raise the grievances of the public and demand relief from mounting economic pressures.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Makkah Joint Defence Agreement with Saudi Arabia and Türkiye has received broad political support, with major leaders describing the trilateral arrangement as a landmark step toward stronger collective security among Muslim countries. PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari welcomed the agreement, saying it would enhance Pakistan’s defence capabilities while contributing to regional stability and international peace. He also praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir for their role in finalising the pact. Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman also described the agreement as an important development for Muslim unity. He said the arrangement could evolve into a broader collective security framework and called on other Islamic countries to join the initiative. Fazlur Rehman said Pakistan and Saudi Arabia had the potential to play a leading role in strengthening cooperation among Muslim states, adding that a unified defence mechanism had long been part of his party’s political vision. Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman likewise endorsed the pact, saying greater cooperation could reduce Pakistan’s reliance on hostile powers. He proposed expanding the arrangement to include Qatar, Bangladesh, Iran, Malaysia and Indonesia. The leaders’ statements reflect growing political support for the Pakistan-Saudi-Türkiye security partnership, with calls emerging for it to develop into a wider alliance capable of promoting collective defence and stability across the Muslim world.
