‘Malamaal Weekly 2’ adds Fardeen Khan, Mahesh Manjrekar to cast

The star cast of “Malamaal Weekly 2” continues expanding, with Fardeen Khan and Mahesh Manjrekar now joining the ensemble. The sequel first entered development back in February 2026.

Bollywood Hungama has exclusively learned that both actors have officially signed on for the project. Their addition marks the latest in a steady string of casting announcements surrounding the film.

Amit Joshi, known for directing 2024’s “Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya” was confirmed as director back in April. Since then, the cast has grown rapidly with each passing week.

Last week alone brought news of Raveena Tandon and Parineeti Chopra joining the project. That was quickly followed by confirmation on August 11 that Shilpa Shirodkar had signed on too, marking her Bollywood return after 26 years.

Just two days later, on August 13, Elvish Yadav and Rajpal Yadav were also locked in for roles. The rapid pace of signings reflects growing momentum behind the project.

According to a source, Fardeen Khan was considered an easy choice for the makers. The insider explained that Khan has been on a strong career comeback, working across multiple genres while remaining especially popular in comedic roles, which made him a natural fit for the makers.

The source added that Khan was genuinely pleased with the offer and signed on without hesitation. His comic sensibility reportedly aligned well with what the makers were looking for.

Mahesh Manjrekar’s casting was explained similarly, with the source describing him as a uniquely versatile performer who excels in comedy as well. The film reportedly includes a quirky character that the makers felt suited him perfectly.

According to the insider, Manjrekar was excited to be offered a role in the sequel of such a beloved original film. The producers reportedly feel confident he’ll deliver a performance audiences will enjoy.

The film is expected to begin shooting in November 2026. While the storyline itself will be entirely new, it is set to retain the spirit of the original, following ordinary small-town characters caught up in poverty, greed and the chaos triggered by a sudden shot at wealth.

Local authorities reported that dozens of drones and missiles struck the southern seaside city, wounding a dozen people in the process. “In this way, the Russians are at war with the world’s food security,” Zelenskiy said, framing the attack as part of a broader effort by Moscow to disrupt global grain supplies that flow through Ukraine’s Black Sea ports. The Ukrainian president said Russia also struck nine other regions across the country on Sunday, extending the assault well beyond Odesa alone. Russia has spent months bombarding Odesa in a sustained campaign aimed at cutting Ukraine off from the Black Sea and choking its export routes. Ihor, a 67 year old Odesa resident whose apartment narrowly avoided destruction in the latest strikes, said residents have grown accustomed to the danger. “Everyone who lives in Odesa knows that the most common target is around the port area,” he said. Ukraine strikes Russian oil tankers in response As Ukraine works to choke off the revenue Russia relies on to fund its war effort, Kyiv’s forces have repeatedly targeted Russian oil tankers and other cargo vessels moving through the Black Sea. Ukrainian forces claimed three additional strikes on such vessels on Sunday alone. Both countries have widened their campaigns against each other’s logistics networks in recent months. E-commerce warehouses on both sides of the border and Ukrainian petrol stations have come under sustained attack throughout the summer. Ukraine’s state energy company Naftogaz reported a significant rise in attacks on its facilities over the past three days, including strikes on oil extraction sites overnight. Ukraine’s energy ministry said Russian forces also struck power facilities in the Odesa region, cutting electricity to a substantial share of the port city’s residents overnight. In Pakistan, public confidence in the health sector has weakened due to persistent challenges, including shortages of healthcare professionals, rising medicine prices, under-resourced hospitals, and the continued presence of unqualified medical practitioners. These issues require comprehensive and long-term reforms rather than short-term policy responses Healthcare is a fundamental right closely linked to Article 9 of Pakistan’s Constitution, which guarantees the right to life. The Supreme Court has interpreted this provision to include access to essential healthcare services. Pakistan is also a signatory to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, which commits the country to progressively ensuring the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health for its citizens. One of the most pressing concerns is the shortage of qualified doctors in rural and underserved regions. Although medical institutions produce thousands of graduates every year, many public health facilities outside major cities continue to face vacant positions. As a result, many communities struggle to obtain even basic healthcare services and are often forced to travel long distances for treatment. The migration of doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to foreign countries has further weakened the healthcare system. Better salaries, improved working conditions, career opportunities, and greater security abroad encourage many skilled professionals to leave Pakistan, creating significant gaps in public hospitals and specialized medical services. The pharmaceutical sector also faces increasing challenges. Some multinational pharmaceutical companies have reduced their presence in Pakistan, raising concerns about future medicine availability and investor confidence. While local pharmaceutical manufacturers continue to meet much of the country’s demand, policymakers must create a stable regulatory and economic environment that supports both domestic production and responsible international investment. The rising cost of medicines has become another major burden for families already affected by inflation. Patients suffering from chronic illnesses such as diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases often require lifelong treatment, making affordability a growing concern. At the same time, the continued circulation of counterfeit and substandard medicines highlights weaknesses in regulation and quality control, despite improvements in oversight by regulatory authorities. Public hospitals also frequently experience shortages of essential medicines and emergency supplies, forcing patients to purchase drugs from private pharmacies. This increases treatment costs and can delay critical medical care during emergencies. Ensuring uninterrupted medicine supplies in government hospitals should remain a national priority. Another persistent issue is the presence of unqualified medical practitioners, commonly known as quacks, particularly in areas where licensed healthcare providers are scarce. Tackling this problem requires stronger enforcement of existing laws alongside improved access to qualified medical professionals. Pakistan’s healthcare challenges extend beyond these issues to include inadequate public health funding, ageing hospital infrastructure, weak primary healthcare services, limited mental health facilities, and uneven implementation of health policies across provinces. Addressing these problems requires a comprehensive national strategy focused on increasing healthcare investment, improving working conditions for medical professionals, strengthening medicine regulation, modernizing pharmaceutical oversight, expanding preventive care, and reinforcing primary healthcare services. Investing in healthcare is not merely a public expense—it is an investment in human capital, economic growth, and national development. Pakistan possesses skilled healthcare professionals, reputable medical institutions, and a capable pharmaceutical industry. With sound policymaking, stronger governance, and sustained investment, these strengths can be transformed into a healthcare system that guarantees every citizen safe, affordable, and quality healthcare. The need for reform is no longer in question; the real challenge is ensuring that action is not delayed any further.
