Mir Raza’s father raises new questions over son?…

The father of businessman Mir Raza Ali has raised fresh concerns about the investigation into his son’s death.

Speaking to the media on Monday, Mir Hassan claimed that his son’s business partner went missing after being questioned by police.

He said police had questioned the business partner once. The man was allegedly not seen again after the questioning.

Hassan said the family had not been informed about the investigation involving employees of the guest house in Gulistan-e-Johar. Mir Raza’s body was found near the guest house.

“We have not been told what investigations were conducted with the employees,” he said.

The victim’s father also questioned why CCTV footage from the guest house had not been made public.

The latest concerns have emerged as investigators continue to review the circumstances surrounding Mir Raza’s death.

The case took a new turn after the businessman’s body was exhumed for a second post-mortem examination.

The second medical examination found a firearm injury and several wounds that had occurred before death. It also reported signs of internal bleeding.

According to the findings, a bullet entered the upper right side of Mir Raza’s back and exited through the left side of his chest.

The bullet fractured his sixth rib and caused internal bleeding. The report also documented injuries to different parts of his head, face, neck and chest.

Following the medical findings, police added Section 302 of the Pakistan Penal Code to the case. The section relates to murder.

The original FIR had been registered under Section 365, which concerns kidnapping.

Mir Raza, 25, was allegedly abducted from the PECHS area. His body was later found in bushes near a wedding hall in Gulistan-e-Johar.

Police had earlier suspected that he may have been tortured before being shot.

The case initially faced uncertainty over whether Mir Raza had been murdered or had died by suicide. His family, however, consistently rejected the suicide theory.

The second post-mortem has strengthened the family’s claim that Mir Raza was killed.

Questions had also been raised about the first post-mortem report.

Karachi Police Surgeon Dr Summaiya Syed had pointed out several issues in the initial examination. She had questioned why the body was not X-rayed and why hand swabs were not collected for gunshot residue testing.

She had also raised concerns over the scientific measurement and photography of firearm injuries.

Questions were further raised about the documentation of the bullet’s path and the examination of the entry and exit wounds.

Following these developments, police dissolved the previous investigation team.

A new team was formed under the leadership of DIG Crime and Investigation Amir Farooqi.

The new team was tasked with conducting a fresh investigation based on the latest medical findings.

Investigators were also expected to revisit the crime scene. They were directed to re-question the victim’s family and other relevant individuals.

The team was also expected to examine forensic, technical, physical and circumstantial evidence.

Mir Raza’s family has repeatedly criticised the handling of the case. They have maintained that he was murdered and demanded that those responsible be identified and brought to justice.

The family’s lawyer, Jibran Nasir, had also alleged that investigators pressured the family to accept a suicide theory. He called for an independent and impartial investigation.

The Sindh government has meanwhile decided to establish a judicial commission headed by a Sindh High Court judge.

The commission is intended to oversee a transparent and impartial investigation into Mir Raza’s death.

    Shehbaz govt outlasts political forecasts

ISLAMABAD: More than two years after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s coalition government took office, repeated predictions about its imminent collapse have yet to materialize, even as fresh deadlines continue to dominate Pakistan’s political debate. Since the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)-led coalition assumed power following the February 2024 general elections, political commentators, television analysts, and social media personalities have frequently forecast the government’s downfall. The expected timelines have varied—from 90 days to six months and beyond—but each prediction has ultimately passed without bringing the anticipated political change. Over time, different events have been presented as potential turning points, including IMF reviews, the federal budget, economic challenges, coalition disagreements, opposition campaigns, and speculation surrounding Pakistan’s political establishment. As one deadline expired, another quickly emerged, keeping the narrative alive despite the government’s continued survival. The latest claim suggests the government has been given six months to create new provinces. However, constitutional experts argue that such a proposal is highly unlikely within that timeframe. Under Pakistan’s Constitution, altering provincial boundaries requires a constitutional amendment approved by a two-thirds majority in both houses of Parliament as well as the consent of the relevant provincial assembly. Given the current political landscape and the absence of broad political consensus, analysts believe such a move faces significant constitutional and political hurdles. Political observers note that earlier forecasts were largely driven by concerns that the coalition lacked the strength to withstand inflation, IMF-linked reforms, and mounting economic pressures. Yet the government has managed to navigate successive economic and political challenges, prompting critics to repeatedly revise their predictions rather than abandon them. Speculation has also been fueled by statements from several political figures and commentators who have periodically hinted at major political developments or institutional changes. Although such claims have often generated widespread public discussion, none of the predicted political upheavals have occurred. In recent weeks, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has intensified its criticism of the federal government, particularly amid growing tensions with its coalition partner during the Azad Jammu and Kashmir election campaign. While the PPP has adopted a tougher political tone, analysts caution that electoral rhetoric and coalition disagreements do not necessarily signal the immediate collapse of the federal government. Rumors about possible alternatives to the current leadership have also surfaced repeatedly. Claims that a new political figure was being prepared to replace Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, along with speculation about the removal of senior cabinet members, have circulated over the past year. However, none of those predictions have been borne out by subsequent developments. Analysts say the recurring cycle of political forecasts reflects a broader trend in Pakistan’s political discourse, where speculation often outpaces reality. While acknowledging that every government faces political and economic challenges, they note that repeated predictions of the coalition’s imminent fall have consistently failed to match events on the ground, leaving each passing deadline followed by yet another countdown.

Ariana Grande details future plans after announcin…

Ariana Grande is preparing to take a well-earned break from the spotlight after years of nonstop work. The Grammy-winning singer recently confirmed that she plans to step away from public life following the conclusion of her Eternal Sunshine Tour, choosing to prioritize rest, personal time, and the people who matter most to her. According to reports, Grande intends to spend much of her hiatus with family, close friends, and boyfriend Ricky Alvarez as she embraces a quieter chapter of her life.  An insider told Page Six that the singer is looking forward to slowing down after an incredibly busy period. “She’ll be spending a lot of time with her family, friends, and Ricky,” the source revealed, adding that Grande wants to recharge away from the constant demands of the entertainment industry. The couple reportedly plan to keep things low-key while enjoying quality time together.  Grande first addressed her decision during an emotional speech at a concert in Chicago. Speaking directly to fans, she explained that the hiatus was not a sudden reaction to recent headlines or online criticism. Instead, she said it had been carefully planned long before and reflected her desire to establish healthier personal boundaries after years of intense work.  The singer emphasized that taking a break does not mean she is walking away from music forever. She reassured fans that she still loves performing and creating art, describing her recent tour as one of the most meaningful experiences of her career. However, she also acknowledged that rest is essential and that setting boundaries is an important part of maintaining both personal happiness and creative inspiration.  Grande’s decision follows one of the busiest stretches of her professional life. In recent years, she completed work on both Wicked films, released the albums Eternal Sunshine and Petal, filmed the upcoming comedy Focker-in-Law, and embarked on a major international tour. She also recently stepped away from the planned West End production of Sunday in the Park with George, reinforcing her commitment to slowing down.  Sources close to the singer say her support system has encouraged her decision. Family members and close friends reportedly believe this period of rest will allow Grande to focus on herself after years of balancing demanding schedules and intense public attention. Ricky Alvarez, with whom she has recently rekindled a relationship, is also said to be a steady source of encouragement during this new chapter.  Although fans may miss seeing Grande constantly in the spotlight, many have applauded her decision to put her well-being first. The singer has repeatedly spoken about the importance of protecting her peace and recognizing when it is time to step back. For now, Ariana Grande’s future plans are refreshingly simple: spend time with loved ones, enjoy life away from cameras, and return only when she feels ready. It is a reminder that even one of the world’s biggest pop stars understands the value of slowing down and making space for the people who matter most.

Anthropic releases Claude Opus 5, offering high pe…

Anthropic on Friday released Claude Opus 5, a new artificial intelligence model that the company says approaches the performance of its most powerful system at half the price. The San Francisco-based startup, a chief rival to OpenAI, said the model tops industry benchmarks for coding and knowledge work while consuming fewer computing resources than earlier versions. The claim addressed rising concerns among business customers who have balked at the expense of running advanced AI systems. Claude competes with OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Gemini, with customers paying based on the amount of work performed, measured in units called tokens. Opus 5 costs $5 per million input tokens and $25 per million output tokens, half the price of Fable 5, Anthropic’s most expensive publicly available offering. The company said the new model performs close to Fable 5 across many tasks despite the lower cost. Cost has become a major issue after Anthropic and its rival OpenAI both filed for stock market listings in June. Wall Street is scrutinising their business performance more closely than ever ahead of their market debuts. The release of Opus 5 is a strategic move by Anthropic to address the growing demand for affordable AI solutions while maintaining high performance. On cybersecurity, Anthropic said it deliberately avoided training Opus 5 on cyber tasks, and that the model remains behind Mythos 5  its most capable and most tightly restricted system, available only to select partners  on both offensive cyber work and biological research capabilities that could be misused. Mythos is Anthropic’s most advanced series of AI models, and its strength at finding weaknesses in computer systems has caused controversy, pushing the company to build tight guardrails around them. The company said Opus 5 finds software flaws about as well as Mythos 5 but lags far behind in turning those flaws into something that could be weaponised into an attack. Citing the reduced risk, Anthropic said its automated safety filters will intervene roughly 85% less often on Opus 5 than on Fable 5, the Mythos-class model it released last month. Fable 5 and Mythos 5 were briefly pulled from public access in June after the US Commerce Department imposed export controls, which were lifted at the end of that month. The release of Claude Opus 5 marks a significant milestone for Anthropic as it seeks to compete in the rapidly evolving AI market. By offering a high-performance model at a lower cost, the company aims to attract a broader range of customers, including businesses and developers who may have been priced out of the market. The focus on affordability and performance reflects the growing demand for AI solutions that can deliver results without breaking the bank. As the AI industry continues to evolve, the competition between Anthropic, OpenAI, and other players is expected to intensify, with companies racing to develop models that are both powerful and cost-effective. Anthropic’s strategic approach to balancing performance, cost, and safety positions it well in the competitive landscape, and the company is likely to continue innovating to meet the needs of its customers. The launch of Opus 5 is a testament to Anthropic’s commitment to advancing AI technology while addressing the practical concerns of businesses and developers. The AI industry will be watching closely to see how the market responds to this new offering and how it shapes the future of AI development and deployment.

Casemiro joins Inter Miami as MLS launches transfer probe

Brazilian midfielder Casemiro has completed his move to Major League Soccer club Inter Miami after leaving Manchester United as a free agent. The experienced midfielder has signed with the American club, where he will play alongside Argentina captain Lionel Messi and several other international stars. The 34-year-old midfielder brings a wealth of experience to Inter Miami. During his career, he won five UEFA Champions League titles with Real Madrid and established himself as one of the world’s top defensive midfielders. He also represented Manchester United for four seasons after joining the English club from Real Madrid. Manchester United decided not to extend Casemiro’s contract at the end of the season, allowing him to leave as a free agent. Inter Miami quickly secured his signature as part of its strategy to strengthen the squad with experienced international players. Club officials welcomed Casemiro’s arrival and described the signing as another important step in their long-term project. They said the Brazilian’s leadership, experience, and winning mentality would help the team compete for more trophies in the coming seasons. After completing the move, Casemiro said the club’s ambition and future plans convinced him to join Inter Miami. He said he remains determined to win titles and contribute to the club’s continued growth. Inter Miami co-owner David Beckham also welcomed the midfielder. He praised Casemiro’s successful career and said the Brazilian’s achievements at both club and international level would add valuable experience to the team. However, shortly after the transfer was announced, Major League Soccer confirmed it had opened an investigation into Inter Miami over allegations related to the signing. According to league officials, the investigation concerns the MLS “discovery rights” system. Under league rules, clubs must secure discovery rights before negotiating with certain high-profile players. Reports indicate that LA Galaxy previously held Casemiro’s discovery rights before Inter Miami completed the transfer. League officials said they are collecting all relevant information before deciding whether any rules were violated. They added that no further comments would be made until the investigation is complete. Reports also suggest that Inter Miami and LA Galaxy reached an agreement regarding Casemiro’s discovery rights. However, the financial details of that arrangement will only be made public after the investigation concludes. The latest inquiry is not the first involving Inter Miami’s transfer activities. In previous years, the club faced league sanctions following investigations into player registration and salary cap compliance. Casemiro’s arrival further strengthens an already star-studded Inter Miami squad featuring Lionel Messi and several internationally recognised players. Football analysts believe his experience, leadership, and defensive abilities could play a key role as the club aims to compete for more domestic and international honours.
