traumatic transformation into

My traumatic transformation into a Lassi (butter milk) hydration unit

So, once I tagged along with a buddy to his sister’s place in this super rural village. Lovely folks, honestly—total heart-eyes. My buddy’s brother-in-law? Instant BFF. We vibe)

We arrive at the house … “Lassi lao!”
We chill for a bit… Lassi lao!”
Evening rolls in. My new friend goes, “Yo, let’s hit up the dera (aka Cow Central).”
We get to the dera… “Lassi lao!”
We wander around, side-eyeing cows and buffaloes like city tourists. Sit back down… “Lassi lao!”
Dinner time? “Lassi lao!”
Morning alarm: sunrise.
Breakfast spread: butter, desi ghee (clarified butter) — fried parathas, eggs, village chicken — the whole “we’ll clog your arteries” buffet.
Finish eating … “Lassi lao!”

Me, finally snapping: “BRUH. TURN OFF THE LASSI TAP. I BEG YOU.”
“Fine. Chai lao!” I bark.

Brother-in-law, grinning: “Shah Ji, why you mad, bro? Lassi lao’s our Shah ji ritual!” (Shah ji = imaginary VIP? Idk. Village things.)

Friend suddenly remembers I’m a city slicker. Whispers to his sister: “Y’all got… tea leaves?”
Sister, deadpan: “We don’t ‘do’ tea leaves here. It’s never on the ration list.”

They somehow scrape up tea leaves. I sip the chai… and immediately slam the cup down:
“LASSI LAO!”

The breakfast table ERUPTS. Everyone’s howling, chanting: “Lassi lao, oye! Lassi lao!”

  • Man breaks fish finger record

A 32 year old man from the UK has earned a Guinness World Records title after eating 15 fish fingers in just one minute. Nathan Davis decided to chase a world record after recently winning more than $130,000 on a TV game show. He said he chose fish fingers because he had already taken part in several informal eating challenges and felt confident with the food. After setting the record Davis said he was happy to become a Guinness World Record holder even if it was for eating fish fingers. He added that if the fish fingers had been allowed to cool a little more he believed he could have eaten even more. Still he said he was pleased with his achievement.

  • High sugar diet may harm people with asthma

Eating too much sugar is widely known to increase the risk of type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure.  Now new research suggests that it may also make asthma symptoms worse. A study published in the journal Nutrients found that a high sugar diet can increase inflammation in the lungs making asthma attacks more likely in people with the condition. The research was carried out on mice. Scientists gave the animals their normal food along with sweetened milk. Within just two weeks the mice showed higher levels of lung inflammation. According to the researchers this is one of the first studies to show how quickly excess sugar can worsen inflammation linked to asthma. Asthma is a long term disease that affects the airways and makes breathing difficult.  Although there is no cure the condition can be managed with proper treatment and healthy lifestyle choices. During an asthma attack the airways become swollen and the muscles around them tighten. This can cause coughing wheezing chest tightness and shortness of breath making everyday activities harder. The researchers said that when children eat too much sugar people usually worry about tooth decay or weight gain but rarely think about its possible effects on asthma. They added that the findings support the idea of limiting sugar intake especially for people living with asthma. According to the researchers too much sugar may affect the immune system and trigger inflammation which can make asthma symptoms more severe.

  • Patients are not being treated equally

I want to draw attention to the problem of unequal treatment of patients in hospitals. Some patients are treated well because they are rich or have connections while poor patients often have to wait for a long time and do not receive proper attention. This is unfair and can put patients’ lives at risk. Doctors and hospital staff should treat every patient equally regardless of their financial status or social position. Hospitals should provide proper care medicines and emergency treatment to everyone. request the authorities to take strict action against this unfair practice and ensure that all patients receive equal and respectful treatment.

    Longing for other lives

You might be driving along a quiet stretch of highway at dusk and notice a remote house set against the rolling hills. Its porch light glowing softly against the fading twilight. It happens in an instant. Your mind steps inside for a fleeting moment. You picture yourself standing in that kitchen, tending to a warm pot of soup, learning the rhythms of the local wildlife and forget the press of unread emails. Or perhaps it happens when you see a cozy cottage on a distant coast. Might be an apartment perched above a neighborhood bookstore. Or a tiny rural train station where only a few passengers wait. For a few seconds, you inhabit that alternate life. But as quickly as the thought arrives, reality hits back. For many people, these sudden bursts of romantic daydreaming trigger a wave of subtle unease. It is common to treat such longings like a mild psychological symptom. It is an indicator that something in our current existence is lacking. We wonder if we made wrong turns along the path, selected the wrong career or settled into the wrong neighborhood. We assume that fantasizing about a simpler life means we are secretly desperate to escape our reality. However, a change in perspective shows that this assumption may misinterpret how the human mind functions. Understanding Fernweh: The Opposite of Homesickness The key to re-evaluating this feeling lies in a concept from the German language: fernweh. The word is translated literally as far-pain. Fernweh describes a deep, aching yearning for distant places. It stands as the emotional mirror image of homesickness. While homesickness pulls us back toward the familiar, fernweh pushes toward the unfamiliar. Fernweh is neither a practical plan for relocation nor a symptom of dissatisfaction. It exists in a unique middle ground. It is more than a mere desire to escape reality, yet far less than a literal plan to manifest a new lifestyle. When we treat longing as a sign of discontent, we force ourselves into an unnecessary dilemma. We start assuming we must either change our lives or suppress our thoughts entirely. In reality, these brief mental excursions rarely end with us packing a suitcase. Instead, they leave us returning to our daily routine feeling subtly expanded, as if our capacity for wonder has been stretched open. The Multiple Selves and the Purpose of Imagination The alternative selves we envision during daydreams: the quiet caretaker of a lighthouse, the keeper of a village shop, or the isolated writer in a secluded cabin, are not criticism on our present choices. They do not demand that we abandon our jobs or start over from scratch. Rather, these imagined lives serve as quiet reminders that human beings are inherently complex. The person managing household budgets, answering routine emails and searching for misplaced keys is not the entirety of who we are or who we could be. Human imagination evolved specifically to explore endless possibilities without requiring us to physically execute every scenario. Seeing Distant Peace as Invitation Instead of seeing distant places as destinations we failed to reach, we can view them as invitations. They invite us to reconnect with our curiosity, our creativity and our capacity for reinvention. They reassure us that another way of seeing the world remains entirely possible, even within the routine of daily living.   Ultimately, longing for another life or a distant land does not mean you chose the wrong life. It simply demonstrates that your imagination remains curious and alive. As long as a distant porch light or a road over a hill can capture your wonder, you can take comfort in a profound truth. The truth is your internal life will always be far larger than the single outer life you happen to inhabit.

    Increasing fuel prices

From Meer Baloch Through the columns of your respected newspaper, I would like to draw the attention of the concerned authorities to the continuous increase in fuel prices in Pakistan. The rising cost of petrol and diesel has made life difficult for ordinary people. Higher fuel prices increase transportation costs, which also raise the prices of food, medicines, and other daily necessities. Poor and middle-class families are suffering the most because their incomes remain the same while expenses continue to rise. The government should take effective measures to control fuel prices and provide relief to the public. It should also promote affordable public transport and reduce unnecessary taxes on fuel. I hope my letter will create awareness and encourage the authorities to take prompt action.

  • Keep lizards away with bird feathers

Seeing a lizard inside the house is quite common. Most house lizards are not poisonous or dangerous but many people feel uncomfortable or scared when they see them. This is why people often try simple home methods to keep lizards away. Lizards can actually help control insects because they eat small bugs. However most people still do not want them inside their homes. If lizards often appear on walls in the kitchen or in other parts of the house a few simple steps may help reduce their presence. Use bird feathers Some people use bird feathers as a traditional way to keep lizards away.  Lizards are natural prey for birds so the sight of feathers may make them feel that a bird could be nearby. Peacock feathers are sometimes placed in areas where lizards are often seen.  Besides being used as a traditional method they can also work as a decorative item. Try eggshells Eggshells are another popular home remedy. After using eggs the shells can be cleaned and placed in areas where lizards are commonly seen. Some people believe that the smell of eggshells may discourage lizards from staying in the area. However this method may not work equally well for everyone. Use garlic Garlic is also commonly used to keep lizards away because of its strong smell.  You can place a few garlic cloves near corners windows or other possible entry points. The strong smell may help discourage lizards from coming into these areas. Keep the House clean Home remedies alone may not be enough.  Keeping your house clean is one of the best ways to reduce lizard visits. Avoid leaving food uncovered and clean crumbs or leftover food quickly. It is also important to control insects because mosquitoes flies and other small bugs are a major food source for lizards. By keeping the home clean reducing insects and blocking possible entry points you can make your home less attractive to lizards.
