She shared the message on the occasion of World Head and Neck Cancer Day. The day is observed to raise awareness about head and neck cancers and encourage people to identify risk factors and seek medical advice at an early stage.

Maryam Nawaz stressed the importance of preventing cancer through healthier lifestyle choices. She said several habits can increase the risk of developing cancer.

The chief minister said the facility would provide patients with greater hope and support during their treatment journey.

Her statement also highlighted the need to focus on both cancer prevention and better treatment facilities. She stressed that public awareness about harmful habits can play an important role in reducing health risks.

The completion of the Lahore institute is therefore being presented as an important development for cancer care in Punjab. Its services are expected to support patients who require specialised treatment and help strengthen the province’s healthcare infrastructure.

Oil prices climb on fears of prolonged Middle East supply disruptions

LONDON: Global oil prices moved higher on Friday and remained on course for weekly gains as fresh threats from the United States to maintain an indefinite naval blockade of Iran heightened concerns over the security of crude shipments from the Middle East. Brent crude futures gained $1.43, or 1.64%, to reach $88.50 a barrel by 0810 GMT. US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude also advanced, rising $1.56, or 1.92%, to $82.81 a barrel. The latest rally reflected growing market anxiety that the conflict in the region could persist for an extended period, potentially placing further pressure on one of the world’s most important oil supply routes. Bjarne Schieldrop, chief analyst at SEB Research, said the prospect of prolonged US pressure on Iran had increased uncertainty in the oil market. He noted that the latest developments offered little indication of a quick return to normal conditions in the region. US pressure raises supply concerns Oil markets reacted strongly after the United States warned on Thursday that its naval blockade of Iran could continue indefinitely while Washington considers additional economic measures against Tehran. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the administration was preparing further measures aimed at increasing economic pressure on Iran, signalling that Washington could take steps beyond those already announced. The comments added to concerns that tensions between the United States and Iran could remain elevated, making it more difficult for shipping and energy companies to operate normally in the region. Schieldrop said expectations for a rapid restoration of regular shipping through the Strait of Hormuz had weakened significantly as a result of the latest developments. The waterway is particularly important to global energy markets. Before the current conflict began in late February, roughly one-fifth of the world’s daily oil and liquefied natural gas supplies passed through the Strait of Hormuz. Any prolonged disruption could therefore have consequences far beyond the Middle East, potentially affecting crude availability, transportation costs and fuel prices in major consuming markets. Strait of Hormuz traffic under pressure Shipping activity through the strategic waterway declined below the monthly average toward the end of the week as tensions increased and both sides issued competing claims regarding control of the passage. The situation escalated further on Thursday when two vessels belonging to Abu Dhabi National Oil Company were attacked while travelling through the strait, according to the UAE’s state news agency WAM. The UAE government condemned the incident and attributed the attack to Iran, adding another layer of uncertainty for commercial shipping operators using the vital route. Market participants are closely monitoring developments in the strait because even a partial disruption could force vessels to take longer and more expensive alternative routes. Demand outlook limits oil gains Despite the immediate supply concerns, expectations of weaker global oil demand growth are acting as a counterweight to the price rally. Recent forecasts from the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and the International Energy Agency (IEA) have pointed towards slower growth in oil consumption, suggesting that demand may not be strong enough to absorb a prolonged increase in prices without affecting economic activity. US inventory data also provided a bearish signal. American crude stockpiles recorded their biggest weekly increase in more than three and a half years, indicating that supplies in the world’s largest oil-consuming economy remain relatively comfortable. Norbert Rucker, head of economics and next-generation research at Julius Baer, said recent reports from the IEA and US Energy Information Administration showed that oil storage levels were holding up better than markets had initially feared. According to Rucker, stronger-than-expected inventories could eventually put downward pressure on crude prices if geopolitical risks ease. For now, however, the possibility of further escalation between Washington and Tehran is keeping traders focused on supply risks. The market is expected to remain highly sensitive to developments surrounding the Strait of Hormuz, particularly any signs of prolonged restrictions on tanker movements. Analysts said the direction of oil prices in the coming sessions would depend on whether geopolitical tensions intensify further or whether diplomatic efforts succeed in restoring more predictable shipping and energy flows from the region.

Robert Pattinson to hang up Batman cape after Reeves trilogy

Robert Pattinson is reportedly preparing to end his journey as Batman after completing the planned trilogy directed by Matt Reeves. Pattinson first appeared as the iconic DC superhero in 2022’s The Batman, which offered a darker and more grounded interpretation of Bruce Wayne. The film was directed by Reeves and became a major success, paving the way for further chapters in the story. The actor is set to return as Batman in The Batman Part II, which is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on February 18, 2028. A third instalment is also planned, and recent reports indicate that it could mark Pattinson’s final appearance under the cape. In the first film, Batman investigates the murder of Gotham City’s mayor and becomes entangled in a disturbing mystery involving the Riddler, played by Paul Dano. As the investigation develops, Bruce Wayne uncovers links between Gotham’s criminal world, his family’s history and the city’s troubled past. The film concluded with the Riddler being imprisoned at Arkham State Hospital. There, he encounters another inmate whose identity strongly hints at the Joker, played by Barry Keoghan. The character is expected to have a larger presence in the upcoming sequel. The Batman Part II is expected to expand Reeves’ version of Gotham while introducing several returning and new characters. Pattinson will once again lead the cast as Batman, while Jeffrey Wright is expected to return as James Gordon and Andy Serkis as Alfred Pennyworth. Scarlett Johansson and Sebastian Stan are also among the names linked to the highly anticipated sequel. If Pattinson exits the role after the third film, his departure would close a major chapter in Reeves’ Batman saga. The planned trilogy is expected to complete the director’s current vision of the character while leaving open the possibility of future stories within DC’s wider universe.

Imran Khan family meetings tied to SOP compliance

ISLAMABAD: Family meetings with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder and former prime minister Imran Khan, who remains in jail, will continue under an understanding that his relatives strictly follow the agreed standard operating procedures (SOPs), according to informed sources. The key condition requires family members to avoid holding press conferences or issuing political statements after meeting Imran Khan. Authorities have reportedly linked the continuation of family visits to compliance with these conditions. Imran Khan’s sister, Noreen Khanum, was allowed to meet him again on Tuesday, marking her second meeting with the former premier within a few days. Sources described the development as a positive sign for Imran Khan and his family after a prolonged period of restrictions on family access. According to sources, authorities may continue easing restrictions on family meetings as long as the agreed SOPs remain in place and relatives comply with them. The understanding also requires family members who meet Imran Khan to refrain from making political comments or addressing the media after leaving the prison. The arrangement has also surfaced during proceedings before the Supreme Court, where assurances regarding compliance with the conditions have reportedly been given. The issue had remained contentious for an extended period because some members of Imran Khan’s family previously spoke to the media after meeting him. Statements attributed to the PTI founder also appeared on his social media accounts following some of these meetings. Sources said several of those statements contained strong criticism of the establishment, increasing tensions over whether family meetings should continue without additional restrictions. Authorities subsequently placed greater emphasis on ensuring that prison visits did not become a channel for political messaging. Under the current understanding, the authorities are expected to maintain the relaxed approach if the family continues to follow the agreed rules. In practical terms, relatives will be expected to avoid post-meeting press conferences, while politically controversial statements attributed to Imran Khan will also need to remain off the public platform following family visits. The development could provide some relief to Imran Khan and his family by allowing more regular contact while reducing the possibility of family meetings becoming a source of renewed political confrontation. It may also establish a framework under which the former prime minister can maintain direct contact with his relatives without triggering a return to the earlier restrictions. However, sources stressed that the continuation of the current arrangement depends largely on compliance with the agreed SOPs. Any violation could potentially lead to the authorities reconsidering the relaxed conditions surrounding family meetings.

Tom Holland and Zendaya celebrate exclusive post-wedding event

Hollywood stars Zendaya and Tom Holland have reportedly celebrated their marriage once again with an intimate wedding ceremony in England, months after quietly tying the knot earlier this year. The couple, who have remained one of the entertainment industry’s most private pairs, reportedly took a break from their demanding work schedules and international press commitments to mark the special occasion with a close circle of family members and friends. The private celebration was held at the luxurious Beaverbrook Hotel in Surrey, located near Kingston-upon-Thames in southwest London, an area closely connected to Holland’s upbringing. The exclusive venue, known for its historic charm and scenic surroundings, was reserved exclusively for the couple and their guests for the special event. The lavish Victorian estate spans approximately 370 acres and has welcomed numerous high-profile visitors over the years. Its rich history and secluded location made it an ideal setting for the couple’s intimate celebration away from the public eye. To maintain complete privacy, strict security measures were reportedly put in place throughout the event. Guests and staff members were required to follow a no-phone policy, ensuring that no photographs or videos from the ceremony were shared publicly. The precaution reflected the couple’s long-standing commitment to keeping their personal lives out of the spotlight. According to reports, the wedding celebration was designed to remain entirely confidential, with organizers taking significant steps to prevent any details from leaking before or after the event. The ceremony allowed the newlyweds to celebrate their relationship in a relaxed and private atmosphere surrounded by their closest loved ones. Zendaya and Holland’s romance began after the two met while filming Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2016. Although speculation about their relationship circulated for years, they largely kept their romance private and rarely discussed it publicly. Their relationship continued to grow over the years, and the pair reportedly became engaged in 2024. Fans have closely followed their journey ever since, with the couple frequently earning praise for balancing their successful careers while maintaining a low-profile personal life. Earlier this year, speculation about their marriage intensified after Zendaya’s longtime stylist, Law Roach, publicly indicated that the pair had already exchanged vows. While neither Zendaya nor Holland has officially shared details of their wedding, reports of the private ceremony in England have further fueled excitement among fans around the world. Despite their global fame, the couple continue to prioritize privacy, choosing intimate celebrations over highly publicized events as they begin the next chapter of their life together.

Nimra Khan shares advice for parents on daughters’ marriage

Nimra Khan is a well-known Pakistani actress and model who has remained associated with the entertainment industry for many years. Throughout her career, she has earned recognition for her acting skills and strong presence on television. However, her personal life has also attracted considerable public attention, particularly after she went through some difficult experiences. The actress previously survived a horrific traffic accident and later spoke about facing domestic violence during her first marriage. Despite the challenges she encountered, Nimra continued to move forward and eventually found happiness again when she got married for the second time. Her second marriage initially appeared to be a happy new beginning. Nimra openly shared moments of joy with her followers and celebrated the new chapter of her life. However, the happiness did not seem to last for long. In recent weeks, both Nimra and her husband have shared cryptic posts on social media, leading fans to speculate that their relationship may have come to an end. Adding to the speculation, Nimra has removed several of her wedding pictures from social media. She has also been sharing posts discussing toxic relationships, difficult men and the importance of women maintaining their independence. Her recent messages have sparked considerable discussion among her followers. Nimra has now shared advice directed at parents who are preparing to marry off their daughters. She reposted a message from a father advising parents to carefully consider the financial circumstances and character of a man before marrying their daughters to him. The message particularly warned parents against marrying their daughters to men who are financially unstable and dependent on others. Nimra appeared to agree with the advice and emphasized the importance of checking a prospective husband’s financial situation before making such a major decision. Her message reflects a broader discussion about the responsibilities of parents when arranging or approving marriages. Financial stability, emotional maturity, respect and the ability to take responsibility are often considered important factors when evaluating a potential life partner. However, Nimra’s advice also received mixed reactions from social media users. While some people agreed with her point and appreciated her willingness to speak about the issue, others questioned whether she should be giving relationship advice based on her own experiences. One social media user commented that Nimra should focus on healing rather than becoming involved in what they described as unnecessary drama. Another person pointed out that she had already been married twice and questioned her advice about remaining single and independent. At the same time, some users defended Nimra’s viewpoint. One commenter agreed that parents should carefully evaluate a man’s circumstances before marrying their daughters but raised another question about what qualities parents should consider when evaluating girls. Nimra’s latest post has therefore opened another debate about marriage, financial stability, independence and the responsibilities of both families. While opinions remain divided, her comments have once again placed her personal experiences and views on relationships at the centre of public discussion.

Apple plans smart glasses with future health and fitness features

Apple is reportedly working on a new generation of smart glasses that could eventually become an important part of its health and fitness ecosystem. Although the first version of the wearable device is expected to focus on core smart features, the company is said to have a long-term vision of transforming future models into personal health and wellness companions. Apple is exploring ways to expand its health-focused product lineup beyond the Apple Watch. The company is believed to be developing advanced fitness and wellness features for its upcoming wearable devices, allowing users to monitor their health more conveniently throughout the day. Apple has previously experimented with integrating fitness technology into its Vision Pro headset. The original concept involved a dedicated version of Apple Fitness+ that would let users participate in guided workout sessions while the headset tracked their body movements in real time. This system was designed to analyze posture, movement, and exercise performance, providing users with more accurate feedback during workouts. Reports also suggested that Apple had developed sophisticated body-tracking technology capable of monitoring users’ physical movements with a high level of precision. The feature was intended to enhance fitness training by measuring exercise form and movement patterns. However, despite the promising technology, Apple ultimately decided not to introduce these fitness capabilities with the Vision Pro. The main reason behind this decision was the headset’s weight. While Vision Pro offers advanced mixed-reality experiences, its relatively heavy design made it uncomfortable for prolonged physical activity. Wearing the headset during exercise was considered impractical, leading Apple to postpone its fitness ambitions for the device. Rather than abandoning the idea altogether, Apple appears to be shifting its focus toward lighter wearable products, particularly its upcoming smart glasses. These glasses are expected to provide a more comfortable platform for delivering health and fitness experiences without the limitations posed by a bulky headset. To support these efforts, Apple is reportedly recruiting specialists with expertise in health technology, spatial computing, and wearable devices. Recent job postings indicate that the company is looking for professionals who can help create innovative wellness and fitness experiences for future vision-based products. The hiring efforts suggest Apple remains committed to expanding the capabilities of its wearable ecosystem. Industry analysts have also indicated that Apple may incorporate heart-rate monitoring technology into future smart glasses. The sensor technology is expected to be similar to the heart-rate monitoring features reportedly being developed for upcoming AirPods models. If implemented successfully, these sensors could allow users to monitor key health metrics without relying solely on the Apple Watch. Although Apple has not officially confirmed the features or launch timeline, reports suggest that these advanced health capabilities are still under development. As a result, they are unlikely to appear in the first generation of Apple smart glasses. Instead, Apple is expected to introduce these fitness and wellness functions gradually in future versions of the device as the technology matures. While consumers may need to wait several years before these advanced features become available, Apple’s continued investment in wearable health technology highlights its ambition to build a broader ecosystem that seamlessly combines everyday convenience with personal health monitoring.
