Astronomers have made a remarkable discovery in the Milky Way after observing a rare exploding star releasing extremely fast-moving streams of gas. Scientists have described these unusual formations as cosmic “bullets” because of their incredible speed and shape.

According to a new study, the gas material is being expelled from the star system at speeds of nearly 20 million miles per hour, creating a phenomenon that has never been observed in this way before, either in our galaxy or in other known stellar explosions.

The discovery involves a rare helium nova known asV445 Puppis, which has been under observation for more than two decades. Scientists were able to study the star in greater detail after the surrounding cloud of dust became less dense, revealing new information about the unusual explosion taking place around it.

Researchers from the University of Warwick confirmed that V445 Puppis is the only known helium nova of its kind in the Milky Way. The system consists of a white dwarf star that is collecting helium fuel from a rare companion star, eventually triggering an extraordinary stellar eruption.

Unlike typical stellar explosions, this event involves the release of helium-rich material, creating powerful and unusual gas streams that have surprised researchers. The exact nature of these mysterious “bullets” and the process responsible for producing them are still not fully understood.

Scientists believe that studying this rare phenomenon could provide valuable insights into how unusual stellar explosions occur and how stars evolve under extreme conditions. Understanding these events may also help researchers learn more about the behavior of white dwarfs and their role in shaping the evolution of galaxies.

The discovery of V445 Puppis represents a significant step forward in astronomy, as it offers scientists a rare opportunity to examine a type of cosmic event that has never been observed in such detail before.

Further observations will be needed to determine how these high-speed gas formations are created and what their long-term impact may be on the surrounding space environment.     52 life-saving drugs clear major approval hurdle

    ISLAMABAD: A federal cabinet subcommittee has approved the prices of 52 newly registered life-saving medicines, including treatments for cancer, diabetes, haemophilia and Parkinson’s disease, in a move aimed at improving access to essential medicines across Pakistan. The meeting was chaired by Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb in Islamabad. The committee reviewed pricing proposals for newly registered medicines and approved the prices for all 52 products. Officials said the approved medicines include several advanced treatments for serious and chronic illnesses. Among them is Keytruda, a modern immunotherapy drug used globally to treat more than 20 types of cancer. Other approved medicines include Nivolumab, Dasatinib, Meropenem and insulin, which are widely used to treat cancer, severe infections and diabetes. The pricing decision will now be sent to the federal cabinet for final approval. Once endorsed, the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) will issue an official price notification, allowing the medicines to be legally marketed and sold in the country. Health Ministry officials said early approval of medicine prices was necessary to address the difficulties faced by patients. Delays in pricing had prevented several newly registered medicines from entering the local market, forcing many patients to rely on unregistered, smuggled or costly imported alternatives. Authorities believe the approval will improve the availability of high-quality medicines and reduce dependence on illegal supply channels. They said the move will also help ensure that patients have access to safe and regulated treatments through authorised healthcare providers. During the meeting, the finance minister stressed the importance of transparency and protecting the public interest in decisions related to medicine pricing. He called for a fair pricing mechanism that balances patient affordability with the availability of essential medicines.

    Flood surge damages railway bridge near Lahore

    A railway bridge near Mission Caller on the Sheikhupura-Lahore section was damaged after a strong flood surge hit the area, disrupting train services between Lahore and Faisalabad. Railway authorities said train operations on the Lahore-Faisalabad section have been temporarily suspended due to damage to the bridge. Trains travelling from Lahore towards Karachi via Sheikhupura and Faisalabad are being diverted through Sahiwal as an alternative route. Officials said the Badr Express and Ghouri Express have been cancelled due to the disruption. The Shalimar Express and Karakoram Express will operate via Raiwind and Sahiwal, while the Mianwali Express, which normally runs between Lahore and Mianwali, will be diverted through Lala Musa. Several other trains operating on the affected route have also been cancelled. Some services have been shifted to alternative routes to minimise disruption to passengers. According to railway officials, the flood surge that hit the area last night caused 30 of the bridge’s 110 pillars to collapse. Repair work has begun on the damaged structure. Railway authorities are working to restore the track and resume normal train operations as soon as possible. The flooding has also affected nearby communities. Residents said several settlements, including Hadiala Warkan village, were inundated after the flood surge entered the area during the night. The floodwaters have also caused significant damage to standing crops. Local residents expressed concern over losses to agricultural land and crops following the sudden rise in water levels.
