New committee to review Mir Raza case today

A new investigation committee will hold an important meeting today to review the Mir Raza Ali murder case.

The meeting will be chaired by DIG Aamir Farooqi. The committee will conduct a fresh and impartial investigation into the case. It will examine all aspects of the incident.

Investigators will identify and collect any new evidence linked to the case. The evidence will be properly preserved and examined. Physical, technical, circumstantial and forensic evidence will also be reviewed.

The committee will closely examine the victim’s injuries and clothes. It will also compare the two conflicting post-mortem reports.

Investigators have been directed to take all possible steps to reach a conclusion. The team will submit its findings to the relevant court within the given timeframe. Daily progress reports will also be prepared.

Additional officers may be included in the investigation if required. The committee will also record statements from members of the medical board involved in the first post-mortem.

Doctors and experts who conducted the first post-mortem are expected to be questioned. They may also be given a detailed questionnaire.

Investigators will try to determine the evidence behind the first post-mortem findings. The report had stated that the bullet entered through the chest and exited through the back.

The team will also examine how forensic evidence was documented and preserved during the initial investigation.

The second post-mortem report gave a different assessment of the bullet’s direction. Investigators will therefore compare both reports in detail. They will also examine the injuries, clothing and other forensic material.

Meanwhile, investigators have obtained details about Mir Raza Ali’s movements on the night of July 28. Details of his final phone calls and messages have also been collected.

According to the investigation, Mir Raza spoke to two people through three phone calls that night. He reportedly spoke to a person named Ali at 2:13am and again at 2:16am.

His final call was answered by his friend Abdullah. The two spoke for more than three minutes.

    The AJK reserved seats election will be held on August 24, with the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Election Commission announcing the schedule for polling in the Legislative Assembly. According to the notification, voting will take place at the AJK Assembly from 10am to 1pm. The reserved seats include five for women, one for Ulema-e-Deen or Mashaikh, one for Jammu and Kashmir state subjects living abroad, and one for technocrats and other professionals. Candidates will be able to submit their nomination papers on August 20 between 9am and 2pm. The returning officer will subsequently scrutinise the papers and publish the list of valid candidates. Appeals against decisions on nomination papers can be filed on August 21. The Chief Election Commissioner will hear the appeals on August 22, while candidates can withdraw their nominations before 2pm on August 23. The AJK Assembly has 53 members, including 45 directly elected members and eight members elected through reserved seats. However, polling on seven directly elected seats could not take place because of law and order concerns. As a result, the reserved-seat election will initially be conducted by the 38 directly elected members elected so far. The development comes as AJK’s three-phase electoral process continues amid political and security challenges.

Their bilateral trade is estimated at around $43 billion. Saudi Arabia also remains an important supplier of crude oil to India. It reportedly meets around 14% of India’s crude oil requirements. Pakistan and Saudi Arabia also have a long history of defence cooperation. Pakistan has provided military training to Saudi forces. Pakistani military personnel have also been deployed in Saudi Arabia at different times. The Indian analysis claimed that Pakistan sent around 8,000 military personnel and 16 JF-17 fighter jets to Saudi Arabia during 2026. It also referred to reports about possible Pakistani drone support and Chinese-made air defence systems. These developments were reportedly linked to Saudi Arabia’s security concerns and attacks involving drones. The relationship between Pakistan and Türkiye has also expanded significantly in recent years. The two countries have increased cooperation in defence technology and military production. Pakistan has acquired Turkish-made warships and other defence equipment. Türkiye has also supported the modernisation of Pakistan’s naval capabilities. The two countries are also cooperating in the field of unmanned aerial systems. Pakistan has acquired Turkish Bayraktar Akıncı drones. Both sides have discussed and worked on expanding cooperation in drone technology. Türkiye’s KAAN stealth fighter has also attracted interest from Pakistan. However, no final purchase agreement for the aircraft has been confirmed.
