According to SUPARCO, Pakistan’s first lunar rover has been named “Jinnah-1.” The name was selected from suggestions submitted through a nationwide competition. More than 4,000 proposals were received from across the country. SUPARCO stated that seven participants had suggested the name “Jinnah-1.” The winner was selected through a lucky draw and 17-year-old Tayyab Karim from Bahawalnagar was declared the winner for proposing the name. Tribute to Quaid-e-Azam The Chairman of SUPARCO said that “Jinnah-1” is a tribute to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He added that the name represents Pakistan’s determination, progress and pursuit of new frontiers in space exploration. It is worth mentioning that Pakistan’s first lunar rover is scheduled to be sent to the Moon in 2029 as part of China’s Chang’e-8 mission. The Jinnah-1 rover will conduct scientific research on the Moon’s south pole.

Shortly before Wangchuk’s announcement, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation and pledged stronger legal action against those responsible for examination fraud. He described the paper leak scandal as a serious issue affecting the future of hundreds of thousands of students and said the government would introduce tougher legislation to combat such crimes. Modi also announced plans to speed up court proceedings against those involved in examination fraud, adding that the issue would be discussed by the federal cabinet. While outlining the government’s response, he did not comment on demands for the education minister’s resignation.     SBP orders same-day settlement for Premium Prize Bond sales

    Karachi – The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has introduced a new system for the sale of Premium Prize Bonds and issued important instructions to commercial banks. According to details, the State Bank of Pakistan has directed all commercial banks to settle the proceeds from the sale of Premium Prize Bonds on the same day. In a circular issued by the SBP, it was stated that the new system has been introduced after reviewing the existing mechanism for reporting transactions related to the sale of Premium Prize Bonds. Under the new procedure, banks will report details of Premium Prize Bond sales through the Data Acquisition Portal within the prescribed time. The State Bank Banking Services Corporation will then deduct the reported sales amount from the relevant bank account on a daily basis. The State Bank has clarified that if a bank fails to settle the sales proceeds on the same day, it will have to pay charges for using the funds during the delay. These charges will be imposed for each day of delay at the SBP’s overnight reverse repo selling rate. The circular further stated that the calculation and recovery of these charges will be carried out by the SBP Karachi Office. The amount will be deducted from the relevant bank account and deposited into the Central (Non-Food) Account. The State Bank also clarified that if profit or prize money is incorrectly paid due to inaccurate, delayed or incomplete reporting of sales, encashment or transfer transactions, the concerned bank will be fully responsible. However, where applicable, adjustments will be made to the income tax amount.

The Uzbek consulate in Tatarstan said seven of those killed were Uzbek citizens. Russian media reported that many of the victims were staying at a hostel when the attack occurred. Russia’s Investigative Committee said civilians were present in the area where the drones struck. Russian officials condemned the attack and warned that those responsible would face severe punishment. Tatarstan leader Rustam Minnikhanov expressed condolences to the families of those killed. Nizhnekamsk Mayor Radmir Belayev described the loss of life as a major tragedy for the city. The latest strike is among the deadliest reported attacks inside Russia since Moscow launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Ukraine has intensified its use of long-range drones in recent months, frequently targeting oil refineries, warehouses and other facilities it considers strategically important. Russia has continued its own large-scale missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities. The escalation has increased concerns over civilian casualties on both sides. Last week, a combined Russian drone and missile attack on Kyiv reportedly killed 21 people.

    Pakistan’s security forces killed 12 suspected militants during two intelligence-based operations carried out in separate districts of Balochistan as part of the ongoing counterterrorism campaign, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Thursday. According to the military’s media wing, the operations were conducted on August 5 and 6 in Washuk and Mastung districts under the third phase of Operation Rad-ul-Fitna, which targets militant groups allegedly backed by hostile foreign elements. The ISPR said the first operation was launched on August 5 after intelligence agencies detected the movement of six suspected militants in Washuk district. Security forces swiftly moved to the area and engaged the suspects in a targeted operation. Following an exchange of fire, all six militants were killed. A second intelligence-based operation was conducted on August 6 in Mastung district after security forces received information about the presence of armed militants. The ISPR said another six suspected militants were killed during an intense firefight. Security personnel also destroyed a militant hideout during the operation. The military stated that both operations were based on credible intelligence and were part of continuous efforts to eliminate militant networks operating in Balochistan. It added that security forces carried out the missions with precision, preventing the militants from escaping. According to the ISPR, the operations form part of Pakistan’s broader counterterrorism strategy being implemented under Azm-e-Istehkam, the national security initiative approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan. The military reaffirmed that Pakistan’s armed forces, together with law enforcement agencies, will continue intelligence-led operations across the country to eliminate terrorism and dismantle militant infrastructure.
