Pakistan urges UN to enforce Gaza peace Plan

UNITED NATIONS: Pakistan has called on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to ensure the immediate and complete implementation of the Gaza ceasefire and the UN-backed peace framework, warning that continued delays could jeopardise hopes for lasting peace and the creation of an independent Palestinian state.

Speaking during a UN Security Council debate on the Middle East, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, said the current situation presented a critical opportunity to advance peace but stressed that urgent action was needed to prevent further deterioration.

He said the ceasefire and the internationally endorsed peace initiative offered a pathway to reduce humanitarian suffering and support Palestinian self-determination. However, he cautioned that failure to fully implement the agreement and Security Council Resolution 2803 would seriously undermine efforts to achieve a just and durable settlement.

The Pakistani envoy voiced concern over developments in the occupied West Bank, accusing Israel of expanding settlements, establishing new outposts and allowing increased settler violence, which he said was changing the demographic and geographic landscape of the occupied territories.

He also criticised the proposed “Crimson Thread” project, describing it as a network of military infrastructure that would isolate Palestinian communities, divide the Jordan Valley from the rest of the West Bank and weaken the prospects of a contiguous Palestinian state.

Addressing the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Ahmad said conditions remained extremely fragile despite the ceasefire. He noted that millions of Palestinians continued to face severe hardship, with widespread food insecurity, continued civilian casualties and large-scale displacement raising concerns over the full implementation of the peace plan.

Pakistan urged the Security Council to take immediate action by ensuring the ceasefire agreement is fully enforced, demanding an end to Israeli settlement expansion, rejecting annexation and forced displacement, providing international protection for Palestinian civilians and ensuring the release of withheld Palestinian revenues to support essential public services.

Reaffirming Islamabad’s longstanding position, Ahmad said the only sustainable solution remained the establishment of an independent, sovereign and viable Palestinian state based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif (East Jerusalem) as its capital.

The ambassador also expressed concern over wider instability across the Middle East, urging all parties to exercise restraint and pursue dialogue to prevent further escalation. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of regional states and backed diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring peace in Lebanon, Syria and Yemen.

Highlighting concerns over attacks targeting Saudi Arabia and commercial shipping routes, Ahmad said such actions threatened regional stability and global trade, while reiterating Pakistan’s unwavering support for Saudi Arabia’s security and sovereignty.

Concluding his address, the Pakistani envoy said lasting peace in the Middle East would remain impossible as long as occupation continued and the Palestinian people were denied their right to self-determination. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to supporting international efforts aimed at achieving a comprehensive and lasting peace based on UN resolutions and international law.

Pakistan Hockey captain Abu Bakar confident of str…

Pakistan hockey team captain Abu Bakar has expressed confidence that the national side can deliver a strong performance at the upcoming Hockey World Cup in the Netherlands. Speaking to the media before the team’s departure for the Netherlands, the newly appointed captain said he was not feeling any pressure because of the responsibility of leading the national team. He added that all the players were united and fully focused on achieving their objectives in the tournament. Abu Bakar said the team had discussed its targets with senior players and that everyone was on the same page regarding the World Cup campaign. According to him, players including Imad Butt, Hannan Shahid and Sufyan Khan had made it clear that the team’s first objective was to qualify for the top four. “Our first target is to reach the top four, and after that, we want to stand on the victory podium,” Abu Bakar said, highlighting the team’s ambition to compete for a medal rather than simply participate in the tournament. The captain also spoke about Pakistan’s highly anticipated clash with arch-rivals India. He said the World Cup encounter would be completely different from the matches played between the two sides in the FIH Pro League. While the players are familiar with each other from previous international competitions, Abu Bakar believes the pressure and significance of a World Cup match will make the contest much more challenging. “Compared to the Pro League, the World Cup match against India will be completely different,” he said. Despite the intensity surrounding the Pakistan-India rivalry, Abu Bakar remained confident about his team’s chances. He said Pakistan would make every possible effort to defeat India and secure an important victory in the tournament. The captain also praised the support and unity within the national squad. He said the senior players were playing an important role in supporting one another and helping the younger members of the team deal with the demands of international hockey. According to Abu Bakar, the team’s positive environment has helped the players remain focused on their goals. He stressed that captaincy was not an individual responsibility and that success would depend on the collective efforts of the entire squad. Pakistan will enter the World Cup with high expectations as the team looks to restore its position among the world’s leading hockey nations. The players are expected to face strong competition from some of the best teams in international hockey, making every match crucial to their campaign. For Abu Bakar, the tournament will also be an important test of his leadership as he takes charge of the national side. However, his comments suggest that he is confident in both his teammates and their preparations. With the squad united around the goal of reaching the top four, Pakistan will hope to produce consistent performances throughout the competition. The team will aim to go beyond the initial target and finish the tournament on the victory podium. As the players leave for the Netherlands, Abu Bakar’s message is clear: there is no room for fear or pressure. The team wants to compete strongly, support one another and give its best against every opponent, particularly India. Pakistan hockey fans will now be hoping that the captain and his teammates can turn their confidence and determination into results on the field and make a deep run in the World Cup.

Rare star explosion creates mysterious gas bullets…

Astronomers have made a remarkable discovery in the Milky Way after observing a rare exploding star releasing extremely fast-moving streams of gas. Scientists have described these unusual formations as cosmic “bullets” because of their incredible speed and shape. According to a new study, the gas material is being expelled from the star system at speeds of nearly 20 million miles per hour, creating a phenomenon that has never been observed in this way before, either in our galaxy or in other known stellar explosions. The discovery involves a rare helium nova known asV445 Puppis, which has been under observation for more than two decades. Scientists were able to study the star in greater detail after the surrounding cloud of dust became less dense, revealing new information about the unusual explosion taking place around it. Researchers from the University of Warwick confirmed that V445 Puppis is the only known helium nova of its kind in the Milky Way. The system consists of a white dwarf star that is collecting helium fuel from a rare companion star, eventually triggering an extraordinary stellar eruption. Unlike typical stellar explosions, this event involves the release of helium-rich material, creating powerful and unusual gas streams that have surprised researchers. The exact nature of these mysterious “bullets” and the process responsible for producing them are still not fully understood. Scientists believe that studying this rare phenomenon could provide valuable insights into how unusual stellar explosions occur and how stars evolve under extreme conditions. Understanding these events may also help researchers learn more about the behavior of white dwarfs and their role in shaping the evolution of galaxies. The discovery of V445 Puppis represents a significant step forward in astronomy, as it offers scientists a rare opportunity to examine a type of cosmic event that has never been observed in such detail before. Further observations will be needed to determine how these high-speed gas formations are created and what their long-term impact may be on the surrounding space environment. For astronomers, the mysterious “bullets” from this exploding star remain one of the most fascinating discoveries in recent cosmic research.

Meghan Markle ready to fight back after cheating rumours over Prince Harry surface

Royal insiders have pushed back against cheating rumours surrounding Prince Harry, while revealing that Meghan Markle is ready to fight back against the claims. According to a report by New Idea, Lady Colin Campbell made unproven allegations about an alleged affair involving Harry. The claims first surfaced on The Nerve podcast on July 23rd and quickly spread online. The outlet’s source claimed Meghan had discovered messages between Harry and a woman who also lives in Montecito. According to the report, Meghan allegedly saw the woman’s texts on Harry’s phone. Insiders close to the couple were quick to shut down the rumours. They insisted there is no truth to the claims, adding that Meghan and Harry remain firmly united despite the noise. Still, the source noted a difference in how each of them wants to handle it. Meghan reportedly wants to address the rumours head-on, while Harry would rather stay silent and let it pass. One insider pointed out that this is not the first time Lady Colin Campbell has made outlandish claims about the couple. Over the past five years, she has also alleged that Meghan didn’t give birth to either Archie or Lilibet. That history, the source suggested, may explain why her latest claims about a mistress and leaked texts spread so fast online. However, the insider found it strange that anyone would claim Harry and the woman were seen together publicly in an age where everyone carries a smartphone. As for how the couple plans to respond, insiders say Harry prefers to stay above this kind of gossip, given his royal background. Meghan, though, is said to feel the sting more personally. The source described the situation as distressing for her, since she reportedly wanted to shut down this narrative years ago, long before it resurfaced now. The rumours arrive at a time when Harry and Meghan continue to face intense scrutiny in the media. Whether this latest claim fades quietly or continues to build remains to be seen.

Netanyahu reacts to Trump’s Saudi deal condi…

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has described the potential inclusion of Saudi Arabia in the Abraham Accords as a “historic” step for the Middle East, following US President Donald Trump’s announcement that a proposed US-Saudi civilian nuclear agreement would depend on the Kingdom formally joining the normalization pact. According to Reuters, Netanyahu shared his reaction in a post on X, calling Saudi participation in the Abraham Accords a major breakthrough that could reshape the region’s future and strengthen peace and security across the Middle East. “Saudi Arabia joining the Abraham Accords would be a historic and tremendous development for peace and stability in the region,” Netanyahu said, without directly referring to the proposed civilian nuclear agreement between Washington and Riyadh. His remarks came shortly after President Trump revealed that the United States is prepared to move forward with a civilian nuclear cooperation agreement with Saudi Arabia—but only if the Kingdom officially becomes part of the Abraham Accords, the US-backed normalization framework that established diplomatic ties between Israel and several Arab nations. Trump’s condition has immediately placed renewed global attention on the long-discussed possibility of Saudi-Israeli normalization, an issue widely regarded as one of the most significant diplomatic challenges in the Middle East. While Netanyahu welcomed the idea of Saudi Arabia joining the agreement, he carefully avoided commenting on Trump’s specific proposal linking the nuclear deal to normalization. His statement instead focused on the broader regional benefits that such a move could bring. The Abraham Accords, first signed in 2020, normalized relations between Israel and countries including the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco and Sudan. Saudi Arabia has repeatedly maintained that any formal normalization with Israel would depend on progress toward resolving the Palestinian issue, making the latest US proposal particularly significant. Analysts say Trump’s latest announcement could revive diplomatic negotiations that had slowed amid regional tensions and the ongoing conflict in Gaza. However, they also caution that Riyadh’s position remains closely tied to broader political and security considerations. Whether the proposed civilian nuclear agreement can pave the way for Saudi Arabia’s entry into the Abraham Accords remains uncertain. Still, Netanyahu’s swift endorsement highlights Israel’s strong interest in expanding the landmark agreement and bringing the region’s largest Arab economy into the normalization framework, a move that could significantly alter the Middle East’s diplomatic landscape.

  • PML-N accuses Gujrat police of political victimisation after rally FIR

GUJRAT: A political row has erupted in Gujrat days after Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) celebrated its victories in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Legislative Assembly elections, with the party accusing the district police of registering what it described as a politically motivated first information report (FIR) against its local leadership. The controversy began after a victory rally organised in the NA-63 constituency, where supporters celebrated PML-N’s electoral success in AJK. During the procession, some participants allegedly resorted to aerial firing. Following the incident, Gujrat Police registered an FIR against around 10 nominated suspects and nearly 30 unidentified persons. Police have also arrested around 10 individuals in connection with the case. Among those named in the FIR is PML-N Gujrat District Coordinator Chaudhry Ali Warraich. The case includes serious offences under Sections 324, 148, 149 and 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code, in addition to other charges related to the incident. Addressing an emergency press conference, Ali Warraich strongly rejected the allegations and accused the police of acting beyond their legal authority. He alleged that the FIR was registered without a proper inquiry and claimed that officials from City Police Station initiated legal proceedings despite the alleged incident occurring within the jurisdiction of Sadar Police Station. “This action was taken overnight without any transparent investigation. We will challenge this FIR through all available legal forums,” Warraich said. He maintained that only the individual found responsible for aerial firing should face legal consequences, adding that innocent participants should not be implicated. “If any person committed the firing, that individual should be punished according to law, but the rest should not be made scapegoats,” he said, demanding that responsibility be fixed on those directly involved. PML-N District President Nawabzada Tahir-ul-Mulk also condemned the FIR, describing it as political victimisation. “We have always opposed violence and lawlessness in Gujrat. Ironically, today our own workers are being implicated in what appears to be a politically motivated case,” he said. AJK MLA Chaudhry Zeeshan Younas, who recently won the LA-38 Jammu-V seat on the PML-N ticket, expressed solidarity with those booked in the case. “Most of those nominated are our supporters and voters. We will not leave them alone and will provide them every possible legal and political support,” he said. Warraich further alleged that Punjab ministers Chaudhry Salik Hussain and Chaudhry Shafay Hussain exerted pressure on the district administration to register the FIR at the request of PML-Q leader Chaudhry Hussain Elahi. However, no official response was immediately available from the ministers or the PML-Q regarding the allegations. According to PML-N leaders, the FIR is being viewed by many local political observers as a reaction to the party’s electoral gains in AJK, particularly in Gujrat, a district long regarded as a political stronghold of the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q), which currently has representation in both the federal and Punjab governments. Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has reportedly taken notice of the incident and sought a report from the Inspector General of Police, Punjab. Despite repeated attempts by journalists to obtain the police version, Gujrat Police declined to comment on the matter. No official statement explaining the basis of the FIR or the arrests had been issued till the filing of this report.
