Pakistan win four medals at ITF World Championships

Pakistan’s tennis stars have delivered a memorable performance at the ITF Masters World Championships in Lisbon, Portugal, winning an impressive four medals and adding another chapter to the country’s international tennis story.

The biggest highlight came from veteran tennis star Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, who successfully defended his world title in the 40+ mixed doubles category. Partnering Austria’s Nina Hermann, Qureshi defeated the top-seeded Portuguese pair in a closely fought final to retain the championship for a second consecutive year.

The victory marked another significant milestone in Qureshi’s long and distinguished international career. His achievement also underlined his enduring competitiveness on the world stage, even after decades of representing Pakistan at major international events.

Pakistan’s medal tally grew further in the men’s 45+ doubles category, where Qureshi and fellow veteran Aqeel Khan combined to secure a silver medal. Their run demonstrated the experience and consistency of Pakistan’s senior tennis players against strong international opposition.

The national team also added another silver medal in the men’s 45+ World Team Championship, giving Pakistan a strong finish in the team competition.

Aqeel Khan completed Pakistan’s four-medal haul by winning bronze in the 40+ mixed doubles event. His podium finish ensured that Pakistan’s campaign ended with medals across both individual and team competitions.

The results in Lisbon are a significant boost for Pakistani tennis, particularly in the Masters categories, where experienced players continue to compete at the highest international level.

Qureshi’s successful title defence stands out as the headline achievement, but the combined medal haul highlights the depth of experience within Pakistan’s veteran tennis ranks.

With four medals secured, Pakistan’s performance in Lisbon offers a timely reminder that the country’s tennis talent continues to make its mark beyond the domestic circuit.

Kelly Osbourne pays emotional tribute to father Ozzy on first death anniversary

Kelly Osbourne has opened up about the grief of losing her father, legendary rocker Ozzy Osbourne, as the music world marks one year since his passing. On Wednesday, July 22, the 41-year-old singer and television personality took to Instagram to share a deeply personal message about her journey through loss over the past year. It offered fans a rare, intimate look into how she has been coping since his death. In her post, Kelly explained that her mourning goes beyond simply missing her father. She wrote that death also took away a part of who she used to be. Grief, she claimed, reshaped her sense of self in ways she never expected when she first lost him. She went on to describe grief as something that quietly erodes a person from within, dimming their joy and their sense of hope. Eventually, she said, it leaves them no longer recognizing themselves the way they once did before the loss. The “Papa Don’t Preach” singer reflected on how loss changes a person’s entire outlook on life, explaining that a part of who you are effectively disappears alongside the person you have lost. She described grief as an experience that can not truly be understood until it is lived, no matter how much someone tries to imagine it in advance or prepare themselves for its weight. Kelly also spoke about how losing a parent can feel like it splits a person’s life into two chapters, one who they were before the loss, and then who they have become since. She described carrying a love that no longer has anywhere to go, with no outlet left for all that remains unspoken. Closing out her tribute, she admitted that death does not just take away the people we love. It leaves the rest of us carrying on as different, changed versions of ourselves, forced to live with an absence that never fully fades. Ozzy Osbourne, widely known as the “Prince of Darkness,” rose to fame as the frontman of Black Sabbath, the band widely credited with pioneering heavy metal. He later built a decades-long solo career and became a reality television fixture through The Osbournes. He died of heart failure on July 22, 2025, at the age of 76, following a long battle with health issues in his final years. The rock icon is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sharon Osbourne, along with their three children, Aimee, Kelly, and Jack. All of them have continued to honour his memory publicly since his passing.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday accused India of playing a direct role in terrorism inside Pakistan and urged Afghanistan’s interim government to prevent militant groups from using its territory to launch attacks across the border. Addressing participants at the Balochistan National Workshop, the prime minister said Pakistan had successfully eliminated terrorism by 2018, but claimed that violence later resurfaced as part of what he described as a “well-organized conspiracy.” “India’s role in terrorism inside Pakistan is evident,” Shehbaz said, adding that the country had paid an enormous price in the fight against militancy, with more than 90,000 Pakistanis losing their lives over the years. Referring to the recent killing of a session judge in Mastung, the prime minister described the incident as another reminder of the continuing terrorist threat facing the country. He stressed that defeating terrorism requires a united national response involving state institutions and the public. Shehbaz also called on Afghanistan’s interim authorities to ensure that Afghan soil is not used by militant groups to carry out attacks against Pakistan. While emphasizing the importance of good relations between the two neighboring countries, he expressed regret that the Afghan administration had failed to stop terrorist elements operating from its territory. He praised Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar for their diplomatic initiatives aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s regional and international engagement. Turning to development, Shehbaz highlighted the strategic importance of Balochistan, describing it as Pakistan’s largest province by area and the smallest by population. He said the people of Balochistan had always played a vital role in strengthening the federation and assured them that their sacrifices would never be forgotten. He also announced that construction work on the dual carriageway linking Karachi and Chaman was progressing, calling it a major infrastructure project expected to improve connectivity and economic activity in the province. Discussing the National Finance Commission (NFC) Award, the prime minister said Punjab had made significant contributions for Balochistan while the other provinces had also extended full support. He pledged to correct past shortcomings and ensure every province receives its constitutional share of national resources. Responding to questions from workshop participants, Shehbaz said Pakistan’s future prosperity depends on the collective efforts of all four provinces, expressing confidence that the country is ready to embark on a new phase of national development while continuing its fight against terrorism.

Strong earthquake shakes Naples area causing outages and transport disruption

A magnitude 4.7 earthquake struck the Campi Flegrei area near the southern Italian city of Naples on Friday evening, causing power outages, disrupting public transport and damaging several buildings. Authorities said there were no immediate reports of serious injuries, but the tremor prompted widespread concern among residents. According to Italy’s National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology, the earthquake occurred at 7.46 pm local time. The epicentre was located in the Campi Flegrei volcanic area west of Naples at a depth of around three kilometres, making the shaking strongly felt across nearby communities. The Italian fire service reported minor structural damage to buildings in and around Naples. Emergency crews carried out inspections following the earthquake but said they had not received urgent requests to rescue trapped residents or respond to major incidents. As a safety measure, local authorities temporarily suspended rail and metro services while infrastructure was inspected for possible damage. Power outages were also reported in several areas as utility crews worked to restore electricity. Italian media described the earthquake as one of the strongest recorded in the Campi Flegrei region in recent years. Many residents rushed outdoors after feeling the powerful tremors, with videos shared on social media showing people gathering in open spaces while officials assessed the situation. Campi Flegrei is a large volcanic caldera that covers much of western Naples and is home to hundreds of thousands of people. The area has experienced increasing seismic activity over the past few years, leading the Italian government to strengthen monitoring and emergency preparedness. Although smaller earthquakes occur regularly in the region, stronger tremors have raised fears of a repeat of the seismic crisis that affected Campi Flegrei in the early 1980s. During that period, continuous earthquakes forced thousands of residents to leave their homes and caused widespread disruption across the area. Italy is one of Europe’s most earthquake prone countries because of its location along major geological fault lines. The country has experienced several devastating earthquakes over the past decades, many of which caused heavy loss of life and widespread destruction. One of the most destructive disasters in recent history occurred in central Italy in 2016, when a series of powerful earthquakes struck parts of Lazio, Umbria and the Marche regions. Around 300 people were killed and many towns suffered severe damage. The deadliest earthquake in modern Italian history occurred in November 1980, when a magnitude 6.9 quake struck the Irpinia region in southern Italy. The disaster claimed about 2,700 lives and destroyed or severely damaged hundreds of towns and villages. Officials continue to monitor seismic activity around Campi Flegrei following Friday’s earthquake, while inspections of buildings and transport infrastructure remain underway to ensure public safety.

George and Amal Clooney evacuate beloved French ho…

George and Amal Clooney have been forced to leave their picturesque home in southeastern France after fast-moving wildfires swept through the region, placing thousands of residents at risk. The Hollywood couple, who live in Brignoles with their nine-year-old twins, Ella and Alexander, confirmed their evacuation as emergency crews battled the devastating blazes.  The Clooneys revealed the news in a heartfelt letter addressed to Brignoles Mayor Didier Brémond. In the message, the couple admitted they had no way of knowing whether their cherished home would survive the disaster. Despite the uncertainty, they expressed hope for the safety of their neighbors and pledged to stand by the local community during the recovery effort.  “At this point we have no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment,” the couple wrote. They also stressed that, regardless of what happens to their property, they remain committed to helping Brignoles rebuild. “We love Brignoles and our friends who live there,” the letter added.  The wildfires have spread rapidly across several parts of southern Europe, including France, Spain, Italy and Greece, fueled by extreme heat and dry weather. French authorities have carried out thousands of evacuations as firefighters continue working around the clock to contain the flames. Reports indicate that some of the fires have grown to cover an area several times larger than Paris, highlighting the scale of the crisis.  George and Amal made France their primary family home in recent years, choosing the quieter lifestyle of Brignoles over the constant attention of Hollywood. The couple has previously spoken about wanting their children to enjoy a more private upbringing, away from the spotlight. George has often described life in the French countryside as peaceful and ideal for family life.  Although the family has temporarily left the area, their message made it clear that they remain emotionally connected to the town they now call home. Their promise to help with recovery efforts has been widely praised by local residents and supporters, who have applauded the couple’s commitment during a difficult time.  As firefighters continue battling the blazes, the fate of the Clooneys’ home remains uncertain. However, the couple’s focus appears to be on the safety of their community rather than their own property. Their response serves as a reminder that natural disasters affect everyone, regardless of fame, while also highlighting the importance of standing together in times of crisis.
