Pattaya Advances Plans to Promote King Taksin’s Legacy and Develop Old Town Naklua as Historical Tourism Hub

Pattaya City Mayor Poramese Ngamphichet chaired a meeting on Thursday to discuss strategies for promoting and disseminating the royal biography and achievements of King Taksin the Great, while developing Old Town Naklua into a historical learning and tourism destination.
The meeting, held in Meeting Room 131 at Pattaya City Hall, was attended by senior city administrators, the mayor’s secretary, the assistant secretary, and heads of relevant government agencies.
Mr. Paretr Atthawipat, president of the “Following the Footsteps of King Taksin” Club, along with Mr. Suchat Kanokratmanee and their team, presented concepts and proposed activity formats. These are to enhance local historical education and boost tourism value by transforming historical narratives linked to King Taksin the Great, including the story of “Nai Klam of Ban Naklua”, into engaging storytelling that connects with the area’s unique identity.
The club had previously held discussions with the mayor on ways to present local history and stories in an appealing manner. Mayor Poramese suggested organizing historical seminar forums to raise awareness and spark interest in historical tourism, starting with the Old Town Naklua area, which possesses historical accounts and evidence that can be developed into tourism and educational activities.
During the meeting, participants discussed the concept, content, and format of a proposed seminar titled “King Taksin and Pattaya City.” The discussion covered local history, connections between historical narratives and the local area, and methods of presentation suited to Pattaya’s context. Officials also received recommendations to establish concrete joint operational guidelines.
Pattaya City wants to leverage the historical capital and community identity of Naklua to create educational and historical tourism activities. The goal is to add value to the area, support the local economy, and develop Old Town Naklua into a sustainable tourism destination that reflects the stories and distinctive character of Pattaya.
