Petrol, Diesel prices rise as govt announces fresh…

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has increased prices of both petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD), citing adjustments under the country’s petroleum pricing mechanism.

According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division of the Ministry of Energy, the price of petrol has gone up by 45 paisa per litre, while high-speed diesel has become Rs1.16 more expensive per litre.

Following the latest revision, petrol will now cost Rs325.43 per litre, compared with the previous rate of Rs324.98. The price of high-speed diesel has risen from Rs382.79 to Rs383.95 per litre.

The revised rates were determined after the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) reviewed petroleum product prices in line with the government’s pricing framework, which takes international oil market movements and other relevant costs into account.

The latest increase comes shortly after the previous price review, when the government raised the HSD rate by 54 paisa per litre while reducing petrol prices by 94 paisa per litre.

The new prices will apply from Friday, August 14, as the government continues its periodic adjustments to petroleum rates in response to changes in global energy markets and domestic cost factors.

The support is aimed at improving the health and nutritional status of children living with HIV. Authorities said a special program has been planned to provide nutritional supplements to HIV-positive children. Those suffering from severe malnutrition will receive therapeutic food along with continuous medical monitoring to improve their overall health and treatment outcomes. The government also plans to provide guidance to parents and caregivers on meeting the nutritional needs of children living with HIV. Health experts believe that proper nutrition plays a critical role in strengthening immunity and supporting the effectiveness of treatment. Medical experts said children infected with HIV require 10 to 20 percent more energy and protein than healthy children of the same age. They stressed that addressing malnutrition can significantly improve recovery, enhance the effectiveness of treatment, and help HIV-positive children lead healthier lives.

    KARACHI: Pakistan has recorded a significant breakthrough in hydrocarbon exploration with the discovery of high-quality gas from a new petroleum play. Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) announced that its exploration well, Dolphin, drilled in the company-operated Sarani Block in Sujawal district, Sindh, has yielded a major gas discovery. The find marks the first hydrocarbon discovery from the Jurassic-age Chiltan Formation in the Lower Indus Basin, according to PPL.     Met Gala 2027 to honour British fashion designer

    The Metropolitan Museum of Art has announced that celebrated British fashion designer John Galliano will be the focus of its Spring 2027 Costume Institute exhibition, titled John Galliano: Horizons. The exhibition will also serve as the inspiration for the Met Gala 2027, making Galliano only the third living designer to receive a solo exhibition at the museum. The announcement marks a significant milestone in Galliano’s career. Before him, only Yves Saint Laurent in 1983 and Rei Kawakubo of Comme des Garçons in 2017 had been honoured with individual exhibitions while still alive. The Costume Institute exhibition will officially open on May 9, 2027, with the Met Gala serving as its traditional fundraising event before remaining on display until January 9, 2028. According to the museum, John Galliano: Horizons will explore the designer’s extraordinary career, tracing his creative evolution from his acclaimed 1984 graduation collection at Central Saint Martins to his work at Givenchy, Christian Dior, his own label, and Maison Margiela. The exhibition will feature garments, sketches, research books and archival material drawn from the Costume Institute’s extensive collection. Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who has long admired Galliano’s work, praised the designer while announcing the exhibition. “There is no one more deserving of an exhibition of this scale than John Galliano,” Wintour said in a statement. She continued, “His body of work, at Dior, Givenchy, Margiela, his namesake label and more, combines erudition and creativity, darkness and light, the past, the present, the future all smashing together in a brilliant way.” The exhibition has been curated by Andrew Bolton, who explained the philosophy behind the project and why Galliano’s career remains an important subject in contemporary fashion. According to The New York Times, the museum’s decision to move forward with the exhibition followed a private meeting held in May between Galliano, Andrew Bolton, Anna Wintour and several Jewish community leaders in New York. Rather than overlooking the controversy, the exhibition aims to place it within the broader context of Galliano’s life and career, examining both his artistic achievements and the consequences of his actions. With John Galliano: Horizons, the Metropolitan Museum of Art hopes to present a comprehensive look at one of fashion’s most influential and debated designers, while the Met Gala 2027 is expected to celebrate his lasting impact on the global fashion industry.

    Israel revokes entry permits of US Jewish activist…

    JERUSALEM: Israel has withdrawn the entry permits of several American Jewish activists who took part in protests in the occupied West Bank against attacks on Palestinians and damage to their property, according to a report by US Jewish publication The Forward. Among those affected was activist Sam Sherman, who said his travel permit was canceled while he was participating in a seven-week volunteer programme in Masafer Yatta, where he had been working alongside Palestinian residents. Sherman told the publication that several members of his group received cancellation notices within minutes of one another. He said Israeli soldiers, police and armed settlers had photographed his passport during confrontations that he described as being initiated by settlers. According to Sherman, the activists had been peacefully spending time with local Palestinians but were treated by Israeli authorities as though their presence itself constituted a serious offence. The reported permit cancellations come amid continued tensions in the occupied West Bank, where confrontations involving Palestinians, Israeli settlers and security forces remain a major source of concern.

    NADRA officials arrested in Afghan document scam

    The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested four individuals in Karachi for their alleged involvement in preparing fake documents for Afghan citizens. According to FIA officials, the arrested suspects include employees of the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) and other individuals allegedly linked to the illegal activity. The FIA said the suspects were involved in creating unauthorized and forged documents for Afghan nationals. Officials believe the network was operating by misusing official systems and resources. The arrested individuals include a NADRA Assistant Director and Deputy Assistant Director. A NADRA security guard and another person were also taken into custody during the operation. FIA officials said the arrests were made after an investigation into the illegal preparation of identity documents. The agency is now conducting further inquiries to determine the scope of the network and identify other people involved. The investigation will also examine how official procedures were allegedly bypassed and whether more officials were connected to the document fraud. The FIA has intensified action against individuals involved in making fake identity documents, saying such activities pose serious security risks and undermine the national registration system. Further legal action will be taken after the completion of the investigation, officials added.
