PM Shehbaz says trilateral pact aims to promote re…

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said the recently signed trilateral agreement is aimed at promoting peace, development and prosperity in the region and has no aggressive objectives.

Addressing a meeting of the federal cabinet, the prime minister said efforts to formalise the arrangement had been underway for several years.

He said the framework was officially formalised last year to pave the way for a formal agreement.

Shehbaz said the latest development was another step in the ongoing dialogue and cooperation, culminating in the signing of a trilateral agreement on Friday.

He stressed that the agreement was entirely defensive in nature and was not directed towards aggression against any country.

According to the prime minister, the pact is intended to strengthen peace, stability and progress in the region.

He described the agreement as a significant development not only for the three participating countries but also for the wider Muslim world.

Shehbaz congratulated Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their efforts towards finalising the agreement.

He said the agreement was not the result of a recent initiative. Work on the arrangement had continued for several years before it was finally concluded on Friday.

The prime minister expressed appreciation for the officials and leaders who contributed to the process and said the agreement represented an important step towards greater regional cooperation.

He reiterated that the objective was to strengthen collective security while supporting peace, stability, development and prosperity across the region.

ATC extends Mushtaq Ahmad’s remand by four d…

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Islamabad has extended the physical remand of former Jamaat-e-Islami senator Mushtaq Ahmad and his co-accused, Daniyal, by four more days in connection with a case linked to a protest over the situation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK). The two accused were produced before the court after completing an earlier three-day physical remand. During the hearing, the prosecution sought a 30-day remand, arguing that investigators still needed additional time to recover a vehicle and weapons allegedly connected to the case. According to prosecutors, the investigation remains incomplete because the alleged recoveries have not yet been made. They requested extended custody to continue the inquiry. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court rejected the request for a 30-day remand and instead approved a four-day extension in police custody. The case was registered at Islamabad’s Shalimar Police Station under charges related to a protest concerning recent unrest in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. Mushtaq Ahmad’s legal team has previously claimed that he was detained after attempting to enter AJK to express solidarity with people affected by recent violence in the region. They alleged he was stopped by security personnel at Azad Pattan Bridge, denied entry into AJK and later taken into custody by Punjab Police while returning to Islamabad. Following his release from the earlier detention, Mushtaq Ahmad announced plans to organise a peaceful gathering in Islamabad to express solidarity with the people of Kashmir. He invited political activists, students, journalists and members of the Kashmiri community to participate in the event. The case comes amid heightened political tensions following recent protests in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, where clashes reportedly resulted in casualties and injuries, drawing criticism from several political parties and human rights groups.

Ukrainian drones strike Russian oil refineries deep inside enemy territory as energy attacks escalate

Ukraine has launched a series of long-range drone strikes targeting major oil processing facilities deep within Russian territory, hitting the Slavneft-Yanos refinery in Yaroslavl and the Bashneft-Novoil plant in Bashkortostan. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the strikes, stating that the operations targeted facilities located up to 1,300 kilometres from the Ukrainian border to disrupt fuel supplies and revenues used to fund Russia’s military campaign. Ukrainian forces also struck two Russian patrol boats and shadow fleet oil tankers in the Black Sea. Russian officials in Yaroslavl reported that emergency crews responded to multiple fires at the Slavneft-Yanos site after falling drone debris ignited fuel storage tanks, injuring four people. Russian air defence forces claimed to have intercepted hundreds of Ukrainian drones across several regions overnight. Simultaneously, Russian forces launched retaliatory strikes against Ukrainian energy and transport infrastructure. Heavy bombardment in the southern city of Kherson caused a complete blackout and severely disrupted internet connectivity, while additional Russian drone and missile strikes in Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, and Odesa killed at least 11 people and damaged residential areas, rail infrastructure, and cargo vessels.
