Police intensify Mir Ali Raza murder probe

Police have stepped up investigations into the abduction and murder of 25-year-old businessman Mir Ali Raza, whose body was found in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar after he disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Investigators are pursuing multiple leads and examining digital evidence as they work to identify those responsible for the killing.

According to the investigation, Raza returned home from his business on the night of July 28. A short while later, he left again after telling his family that he would return within 10 minutes. When he failed to come back, his family became concerned and later reported the matter to the police.

CCTV footage collected by investigators shows a white vehicle arriving outside Raza’s residence at around 4am. The footage allegedly shows the businessman getting into the rear seat of the vehicle before it drove away. Police are trying to trace the vehicle and identify everyone who was inside at the time.

The businessman’s body was later recovered from bushes in Block 1 of Gulistan-e-Jauhar. A preliminary investigation found that he had been subjected to torture before being shot once in the chest. Officials also clarified that rumours claiming acid had been used were incorrect. They said the condition of the body resulted from decomposition after it had remained at the location for more than 30 hours.

Investigators discovered that before his disappearance, Raza had booked an online taxi and travelled to the kitchen facility used for his dessert business in Gulistan-e-Jauhar. The taxi driver confirmed dropping him off at the location. Police believe the kidnapping and murder occurred after he left the premises.

One of the biggest challenges in the investigation is the disappearance of the victim’s mobile phone. Police have requested technical assistance from telecom authorities to obtain his call records, location history and other digital data. Investigators are also examining the people he had recently contacted to determine whether any connection exists between those communications and the crime.

Authorities are also investigating the sudden deactivation of Raza’s social media accounts shortly before his body was discovered. Investigators are trying to establish whether the accounts were deactivated by the businessman himself or by someone who gained access to his phone after the incident.

Police have questioned employees working at the kitchen on the night of the incident, along with staff members employed at his restaurants. Several people have been interviewed as part of the investigation, but officials have not disclosed further details, saying the inquiry is still ongoing.

Investigators continue to analyse CCTV footage collected from nearby houses, shops and streets in an effort to reconstruct the victim’s final movements. However, officials say the absence of a citywide surveillance system and the poor quality of many privately installed cameras have made the investigation more difficult.

Former Mexican governor formally charged over 2014 disappearance of 43 Ayotzinapa students

A Mexican judge has ruled that prosecutors presented sufficient evidence to formally charge Ángel Aguirre, the former governor of Guerrero state, with forced disappearance and obstruction of justice in connection with the 2014 vanishing of 43 students. Aguirre, who was arrested following new testimony gathered by a federal investigative unit, is accused of ordering the destruction of surveillance camera recordings that could have clarified the events surrounding the abduction of students from the Raúl Isidro Burgos Rural Teachers’ College in Iguala. Defence counsel denied all allegations, asserting that Aguirre was attending a high-level meeting at the time the recordings were allegedly transferred to him. The judge ordered that Aguirre remain held in a maximum-security prison pending trial. The indictment represents one of the most prominent legal developments in the case since the 2022 arrest of former federal Attorney General Jesús Murillo Karam. Of the 43 trainees abducted on 26 September 2014 after commandeering buses for a protest, the remains of only three have been positively identified.

Kelly Clarkson reveals why she regrets her post-Am…

Kelly Clarkson has never been shy about sharing her true feelings about From Justin to Kelly, the 2003 musical comedy she made shortly after winning the first season of American Idol. Now, the singer has once again made it clear that the movie is not a chapter of her career she wants her children to revisit. During her final Las Vegas concert, Clarkson joked about the movie while speaking to the audience. She sarcastically called it an “Oscar-worthy” production before revealing the real reason she agreed to star in it: she was contractually obligated. Clarkson also joked that she wished she had read the fine print more carefully before signing her American Idol contract. (Page Six) The movie paired Clarkson with Justin Guarini, the runner-up from the first season of American Idol. Their characters meet during spring break and become romantically involved in the musical comedy. Released in 2003, the film arrived when American Idol was becoming a huge television phenomenon. However, Clarkson has previously explained that she did not want to make the movie in the first place. In a 2019 interview, she recalled being extremely unhappy about the project and said she had even spoken to lawyers in an attempt to escape her contractual obligation. She described the experience as one of the most miserable periods of her life. (Vanity Fair) Her concerns were not completely unfounded. From Justin to Kelly received harsh reviews and performed poorly at the box office. The movie reportedly earned around $4.9 million domestically against a budget of about $12 million. Its reputation has remained largely negative over the years. (Wikipedia) Despite her criticism, Clarkson does not believe the entire experience was a waste. During her recent concert, she pointed out that the music was actually fun to make. Her ability to laugh about the experience now shows how much distance she has gained from that early chapter of her career. Clarkson was only beginning her professional journey when she made the movie. Winning American Idol had suddenly placed her in the spotlight, and she was quickly expected to take on opportunities that came with her new fame. More than 20 years later, Clarkson can look back with a much stronger voice and greater control over her career. While From Justin to Kelly may remain a movie she would rather her children skip, she has managed to turn an uncomfortable experience into one of her most amusing career stories.

Elizabeth Hurley has opened up about her relationship with Miley Cyrus, revealing that she admired the singer long before she began dating Miley’s father, country music star Billy Ray Cyrus. The actress shared that while she had never met Miley before her romance with Billy Ray, she already felt she knew the Grammy-winning star thanks to her son, Damian Hurley.  Speaking during an appearance on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live, Hurley explained that Damian was a huge fan of Hannah Montana and Miley’s music while growing up. As a result, she became very familiar with the pop icon’s career and personality long before their families became connected. “I always knew who she was,” Hurley said, adding that her son frequently played Miley’s music and watched her videos. She joked that she had seen the music video for “Wrecking Ball” countless times because of Damian’s enthusiasm. Looking back, Hurley admitted she had a feeling she would get along with Miley if they ever met—and that prediction turned out to be true.  The Bedazzled actress described Miley as “adorable” and said she genuinely enjoys spending time with her. Hurley’s comments offer a glimpse into the positive relationship developing within the blended family since she and Billy Ray Cyrus confirmed their romance in early 2025.  Hurley and Billy Ray first crossed paths while filming the 2022 holiday movie Christmas in Paradise. Although they remained friends for some time, their relationship eventually blossomed into romance, which they made public in April 2025. Since then, the couple has frequently spoken about how much they enjoy each other’s company and the peaceful lifestyle they share between Tennessee and the English countryside.  Miley has also publicly expressed support for both of her parents finding happiness following their separation. Reports indicate that she has welcomed Hurley warmly, helping create a positive atmosphere within the extended family. Hurley and Billy Ray even attended the London premiere of Miley’s visual album in 2025, showing their support for the singer’s career.  Hurley’s heartfelt remarks suggest that her admiration for Miley began years before her romance with Billy Ray. Rather than seeing Miley only as a global superstar, the actress remembers her through the joyful memories she shared with her son. Now that their paths have crossed personally, Hurley says her first impression was right—she always believed she would like Miley, and today, she says that feeling has only grown stronger.
