Selena Gomez rejects ‘baseless’ Wondermind fraud claims

Selena Gomez has rejected allegations of fraud linked to Wondermind, the mental fitness company she co-founded with her mother, Mandy Teefey, and former business partner Daniella Pierson.

The singer and actress responded after two companies, Wondermind SRS 44 LLC and Bespoke Wondermind LLC, filed a lawsuit against her and Teefey. The plaintiffs accused the company’s leadership of making false claims about Wondermind’s operations, management and available resources.

Gomez and her legal adviser, Mathew S. Rosengart, strongly denied any wrongdoing. They described the allegations as baseless and said there was no factual or legal basis for claims that Gomez had participated in fraud.

Her legal team said they intend to challenge the allegations in court and have filed a motion seeking dismissal of the claims against her.

The lawsuit reportedly alleges that investors were led to believe Gomez would play an active role in Wondermind as its head of marketing. The plaintiffs also claimed that Gomez was bound by a contract to perform certain responsibilities but failed to fulfil them.

According to the allegations, potential investors were told that Wondermind had a valuation of about $95 million and was seeking a $5 million investment. The plaintiffs also claimed that the company had discussed potential partnerships with major financial institutions, including J.P. Morgan and Fidelity.

The lawsuit further alleges that Wondermind had promised to provide mental health and wellness services to employees and develop a new digital application as part of its business plans.

Gomez launched Wondermind with Teefey and Pierson in 2021. The company later expanded its digital content and mental fitness platform in 2022.

Gomez has now made it clear that she intends to defend herself against the allegations. Teefey has not publicly commented on the lawsuit so far.

La Liga chief urges FIFA president Infantino to step down

MADRID: La Liga President Javier Tebas has called on FIFA President Gianni Infantino to step down, accusing world football’s governing body of damaging the sport through controversial decisions and expanding its control over the global football calendar. In an interview with an Italian newspaper, Tebas said he believed Infantino’s leadership had reached its limit and claimed FIFA’s current direction was harming domestic football competitions around the world. The Spanish league chief argued that FIFA was placing too much emphasis on the FIFA World Cup while ignoring the importance of national leagues, which he said provide the foundation of professional football and support thousands of jobs. Tebas criticised proposals to further expand the World Cup, including discussions about increasing the tournament to 64 teams. He said such plans would place unnecessary pressure on players and weaken domestic competitions. He also questioned FIFA’s decision to introduce mandatory hydration breaks during World Cup matches regardless of weather conditions. According to Tebas, the policy was not always necessary and appeared to benefit commercial broadcasting rather than player welfare. The La Liga president also criticised the unusually long half-time show during the World Cup final, saying football should not be altered to accommodate entertainment and commercial interests. Tebas further referred to the controversy surrounding United States forward Folarin Balogun, whose suspension was lifted before a knockout match. He suggested the incident raised serious concerns about FIFA’s decision-making process and governance. He claimed many people within international football privately disagreed with FIFA’s leadership but were unwilling to speak publicly because of the organisation’s political structure. Tebas maintained that football’s future depends on protecting domestic leagues, reducing the growing number of international matches and ensuring that decisions are made in the best interests of the sport rather than commercial considerations

Bristol Airport disruption continues as flights resume

Flights have begun operating again at Bristol Airport after a runway defect caused widespread disruption and left hundreds of passengers stranded overnight. The airport runway was closed shortly after 6pm BST on Friday, forcing all flights to be suspended until 8am Saturday. Although operations have now restarted, passengers continue to face delays, disrupted schedules and flight diversions. Airport authorities warned that some disruption would continue throughout Saturday and apologised to passengers affected by the situation. Travellers were advised to contact their respective airlines for information about individual flights. The airport has not yet provided further details about the nature of the runway defect or explained when normal operations are expected to fully resume. Passengers described the disruption as chaotic, with several criticising the airport for a lack of clear communication and assistance. Paul Smith, who was due to travel to Glasgow for his son’s 20th birthday, said he was forced to cancel his trip. He criticised the information and support provided to passengers during the disruption. Another traveller, Dave Blackwell, said his flight from Rhodes was diverted to Newcastle. He claimed passengers spent several hours at Rhodes Airport without receiving adequate information before being told they would have to travel onward by bus. Eighteen-year-old Finn Holland was also among those affected after his flight to Bristol was redirected to Bournemouth. He said passengers had to arrange their own transport back to Bristol, describing the process as poorly organised. The disruption has affected both departing and arriving passengers, with some travellers facing lengthy delays and complicated onward journeys.

  • Beloved Big Bear eagle Jackie passes away, leaving millions heartbroken

Jackie, the bald eagle who captured hearts across the internet, died on Monday. She had spent weeks under veterinary care after a rough patch in her final months. Caretakers at the Ojai Raptor Center had taken her in following an attack by rival eagles near her Big Bear home. The center shared that her health kept slipping despite round-the-clock treatment from vets and outside specialists. Things first went wrong on July 17, when Jackie was discovered injured after clashing with two other eagles. She was also dealing with serious weight loss and anemia at the same time, which made recovery an uphill fight. Even with intensive support, her body simply couldn’t bounce back, and she passed away this week. Her death has left thousands of longtime fans mourning online. So how did a wild eagle become such a household name? It all traces back to a livestream. Since 2015, the nonprofit Friends of Big Bear Valley broadcast Jackie and her partner Shadow’s nest around the clock, letting strangers around the world watch their daily lives unfold. One of her most unforgettable moments came during a brutal winter storm in 2024, when she stayed put on her eggs for more than 60 hours straight without budging. Viewers stuck around through the hard parts too, watching Jackie and Shadow deal with eggs that never hatched and predators trying to raid the nest. When chicks did survive and eventually flew off on their own, fans celebrated as though it were their own family news. Part of what made Jackie so beloved was her personality. She came across as fierce and fiercely protective, the clear boss of her nest, while Shadow played the gentler role of provider, bringing back food for the family. Wildlife experts say her journey mirrored something bigger too: the slow but real return of bald eagles across California decades after the species nearly vanished from the state. Her remains are now with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Umera Ahmed urges fans to avoid AI-generated content

Renowned Urdu novelist Umera Ahmed has appealed to readers and content creators to stop producing and sharing AI-generated visuals based on her literary works, saying such content diminishes the emotional and spiritual depth of her stories. In a statement shared through her official Instagram page, Ahmed’s team thanked readers for their continued love and support but expressed concern over the growing number of AI-generated images, videos and reels portraying scenes, characters and dialogues from her novels. The statement urged fan pages and digital creators to refrain from using artificial intelligence to recreate her books. According to the team, literature offers every reader a unique and personal experience, while AI-generated visuals limit that imagination by presenting a fixed interpretation of characters and events. Special concern was raised over Ahmed’s acclaimed novel Peer-e-Kamil, which the team described as a deeply spiritual and emotionally sensitive work. They said its message, beauty and sanctity should not be diluted through artificial intelligence-generated content. While appreciating the passion and dedication of fan communities, the statement encouraged readers to experience and share the author’s work in its original form, allowing the stories to leave their intended emotional impact without technological alteration. The appeal comes as artificial intelligence continues to spark debate within Pakistan’s creative and entertainment industries. Concerns over the misuse of AI have grown in recent months, with artists and public figures warning about its impact on originality, artistic integrity and personal image rights. The discussion intensified after an AI-generated promotional music video released by the Ministry of Planning and Development drew widespread criticism. Separately, television personalities Tauseeq Haider and Farah Saadia were forced to deny false rumours after AI-created images depicting their alleged wedding circulated online. Actor Hira Tareen has also urged fellow performers to carefully review contract terms, warning that some agreements may allow studios to use an actor’s likeness for AI-generated productions without adequate safeguards.
