Sonakshi Sinha praises Gen Z after minister’s resignation

Bollywood actress Sonakshi Sinha has applauded India’s Generation Z after Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned following weeks of nationwide student protests over alleged irregularities and paper leaks in the 2026 NEET-UG entrance examination. The actress, who had publicly supported the protesting students throughout their campaign, celebrated the development with an emotional message on social media.
Dharmendra Pradhan stepped down from his position on Saturday, July 25, after sustained demonstrations by students demanding accountability over alleged examination paper leaks and concerns about the fairness of the 2026 NEET-UG medical entrance test. The protests gained momentum across India, with thousands of students calling for reforms in the examination system.
Soon after the resignation made headlines, Sonakshi took to Instagram to congratulate the young protesters, whom she credited for bringing about change through their determination and persistence. Although she belongs to the millennial generation, the actress said the students had inspired her and completely changed her perception of Gen Z.
In the caption accompanying her video, Sonakshi wrote, “Sorry what i meant to say was that i’m proud of you and THANK YOU. Brb now… millenial sathiya gayi hai. 25.07.2026. What a day!!!” The post quickly attracted widespread attention, with many social media users praising her for acknowledging the efforts of the student movement.
In the video, the Dabangg actress expressed her admiration for the younger generation. She said, “Brother, you have no idea what you’ve achieved today. I’m an artist, bro, but Gen Z is the art. You know, I used to underestimate Gen Z.”
She admitted that she had previously misunderstood the generation, saying, “I’d think, ‘They just do things on a whim, get tired, and nothing really comes of it.’” However, she acknowledged that the protests had changed her opinion completely.
Praising the students’ determination, Sonakshi continued, “But I take my hat off to you for this. Salute! Look at me now—I want to be you; I want to be Gen Z. What have you all done? It’s unbelievable.” In a light-hearted gesture, the actress even performed sit-ups in the video as a playful apology for previously underestimating Generation Z.
Her remarks quickly went viral across social media platforms, where many users appreciated her willingness to acknowledge the impact of student activism. Supporters said her message reflected the growing recognition of Gen Z’s role in driving social and political conversations, while others praised the students for remaining united throughout the protests.
Sonakshi’s post has since become one of the most widely shared celebrity reactions to the minister’s resignation, highlighting the influence of youth-led movements and the growing public support for greater transparency and accountability in India’s education system.

The case was lodged by the state following an incident that took place a few days ago. According to police officials, a large group of transgender persons allegedly entered the police station in an agitated state and created unrest inside the premises. They are accused of pelting stones, damaging government property and disrupting official work. Police said the protesters allegedly smashed the windows of vehicles parked at the police station. SC to hear Imran access pleas on August 18

The Supreme Court has scheduled five petitions concerning access to jailed former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan for hearing on August 18. A three-member bench headed by Justice Shahid Waheed will hear the petitions. Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan and Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim are also part of the bench. The cases were previously being heard by a bench headed by Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar. The bench has now been reconstituted after Justice Mazhar became unavailable at the Supreme Court’s principal seat. The petitions seek permission for Imran Khan’s family members, personal doctors and legal team to meet him in prison. The applicants have also requested access to his medical records and proper arrangements for his medical treatment. The petitions gained renewed attention after PTI lawyers and lawmakers gathered outside the Supreme Court earlier this week, protesting over the continued delay in fixing the cases. A delegation led by PTI lawyer Salman Akram Raja subsequently met the apex court registrar. According to Insaf Lawyers Forum chief organiser Intezar Panjutha, the registrar assured the delegation that five petitions relating to restrictions on meetings with Imran would be listed for hearing. The cause list was expected to be issued ahead of the proceedings. One of the petitions was filed by Imran’s sister, Uzma Khan. She has sought his transfer to Shifa International Hospital, arguing that he requires proper treatment and continuous medical monitoring for an eye-related condition and other health complications. The Supreme Court had earlier directed that details of meetings held by Imran and his wife, Bushra Bibi, with family members, lawyers and party leaders in prison be submitted. The newly constituted bench has attracted attention because of the legal positions previously taken by its members in politically sensitive matters. Justice Afghan has been associated with dissenting opinions on several major constitutional and legal issues. He had opposed the constitutionality of trying civilians in military courts and had also dissented in a case involving the transfer of judges between high courts. He has previously granted post-arrest bail to PTI leaders facing cases related to the May 9 violence. Justice Ibrahim was part of a Supreme Court judgment that overturned an earlier order concerning Imran’s right to defend himself in a defamation case filed by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Meanwhile, the Islamabad High Court is separately hearing petitions concerning the alleged solitary confinement of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi. The dispute over access to Imran has remained a major issue for the PTI, which maintains that his family, lawyers and doctors should be allowed regular meetings. The government has continued to face pressure over the prison arrangements surrounding the former prime minister.

Brandon King injured after brilliant Babar Azam run-out

TRINIDAD: West Indies endured a significant setback on day three of the second Test against Pakistan after opener Brandon King was forced off the field with a painful lower back injury moments after producing a brilliant run-out to dismiss Babar Azam. The dramatic incident unfolded during Pakistan’s first innings when Babar, who resumed play on an overnight score of 84, looked well placed to end his long wait for a Test century. However, a costly mix-up with fellow batter Abdullah Shafique brought his innings to an abrupt end. Attempting a quick single after guiding the ball into the off side, Babar found himself stranded halfway down the pitch as King reacted sharply from cover. The West Indies fielder gathered the ball cleanly and unleashed a direct hit that caught the Pakistan star well short of his crease. While the dismissal gave the hosts a much-needed breakthrough, it came at a heavy price. King appeared to injure his lower back during the throwing action and immediately collapsed to the ground in visible pain. Medical staff rushed onto the field, and after several minutes of treatment, the 31-year-old was taken off on a stretcher, leaving teammates and spectators concerned. Cricket West Indies later confirmed that King had suffered lower back muscle spasms and would take no further part in day three’s play as a precaution. Team officials added that his condition would continue to be monitored by the medical staff before a decision is made on his availability for the remainder of the match. Earlier in the day, Pakistan resumed on 266-2, with Babar and Abdullah adopting a cautious approach as the West Indies bowling attack maintained disciplined lines and restricted scoring opportunities. The pressure eventually paid off with Babar’s dismissal in the 75th over after he added just two runs to his overnight total. King’s injury has added fresh concern for the West Indies camp at a crucial stage of the Test, with the hosts now awaiting further medical updates while trying to keep Pakistan’s batting lineup under control. The coming days could prove decisive not only for the outcome of the match but also for King’s immediate cricketing future.
