French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu said the scale of the fires was unlike anything the country had experienced before and warned that the situation remained extremely serious. Meteorological data shows that temperatures in the affected region of southwestern France have averaged more than 32 degrees Celsius throughout July, far above the historical average for the month.
