Supreme Court Spares People’s Party Leader and 10 MPs from Suspension

BANGKOK — The Supreme Court’s Criminal Division for Political Officer Holders has spared 10 incumbent MPs of the People’s Party, including its leader Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut, from suspension, while agreeing to consider a case filed by the Election Commission accusing them of gross ethical misconduct for endorsing a bill to amend Section 112 of the penal code, commonly known as the lèse majesté law.

Former People’s Party MP Sentenced to Prison for Draft Evasion

The court, however, issued a stern warning to the 10 MPs, prohibiting them from expressing opinions pertaining to the lèse majesté law and stating that it could review its decision if the prohibition is breached.

The Election Commission had called for the suspension of the 10 serving MPs from performing their parliamentary duties, but the court rejected the request on the grounds that there has been no behaviour suggesting that they have repeated or will commit an offence. The ruling allows Natthaphong and his nine colleagues to continue sitting in parliament while the case proceeds.

The case involves 44 former members of the now-defunct Move Forward Party, including its two former leaders, Pita Limjaroenrat and Chaithawat Tulathon, who have already been banished from politics by the Constitutional Court. Of the 44, only 10 are serving MPs of the People’s Party, Move Forward’s successor. The Election Commission has accused all 44 of gross ethical misconduct for their role in endorsing a bill to amend the lèse majesté law, an issue that has proven politically explosive and has already led to the dissolution of Move Forward and the political banishment of its leadership.

The 44 defendants have 14 days to challenge the court’s ruling. The first hearing in the case is set for June 30, with examination of evidence scheduled for August 4. For the 10 serving MPs, the court’s decision not to suspend them means they can continue their parliamentary work while the legal process unfolds, a significant victory for the People’s Party, which has been operating under the shadow of potential dissolution and mass disqualification.

Late on Thursday night, Natthaphong posted a message on his Facebook page, saying that he and the nine other serving MPs involved in the case will not stop performing their duties. He insisted that their signing of the bill to amend the lèse majesté law is within the rightful duties of an MP according to the Constitution. He added that, in the past ten years, members of the Move Forward Party and its successor, the People’s Party, have had no intention whatsoever to topple or undermine the democratic system with the King as head of state, as alleged by the Election Commission.

Natthaphong urged the public to consider with fairness the ethical standard in question, which he said has often been misused. He also argued that the accusation against the 44 did not stem from the fact that they supported amendments to the lèse majesté law, but from their vocal desire for changes in Thai society, and as such, they were deemed a threat to the powers-that-be.

People’s Party Leader Vows to Continue Pushing for Amendment of Lese-Majeste Law

The case represents the latest chapter in a long-running legal battle between Thailand’s progressive political movement and the conservative establishment. The Move Forward Party, which won the most seats in the 2023 general election, was blocked from forming a government and later dissolved by court order. Its successor, the People’s Party, now faces many of the same legal challenges, including the threat of dissolution and the disqualification of its MPs. For now, the Supreme Court’s decision to spare the 10 MPs from immediate suspension gives the party a breathing space. But the case remains active, and the prohibition on expressing opinions about the lèse majesté law hangs over them like a sword, ready to fall if they breach the court’s order. For Natthaphong and his colleagues, the fight for political survival is far from over.

Pakistan seeks to revive Iran-US mediation efforts

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is making fresh diplomatic efforts to revive its role as a mediator between Iran and the United States. Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi travelled to Tehran on Tuesday for talks with senior Iranian officials. During his visit, he met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and President Masoud Pezeshkian. The visit is aimed at keeping Pakistan’s mediation channel active. Islamabad is seeking progress on the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), which emerged from earlier efforts to ease tensions between Iran and the United States. Naqvi was received in Tehran by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni. He later held discussions with Araghchi on bilateral relations and regional developments. Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts had slowed after Oman became more directly involved in talks concerning arrangements for navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. However, recent contacts between Oman and Iran appear to have created an opportunity for Islamabad to renew its broader mediation initiative. A diplomatic source said Pakistan wants to follow up on the Islamabad MoU and encourage both sides to return to a wider diplomatic process. The situation around the Strait of Hormuz remains particularly sensitive. The waterway is vital for international energy and trade routes. Iran has maintained that the Islamabad MoU remains the key framework for resolving the wider dispute. Tehran has also linked the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to implementation of the commitments contained in the agreement. Iran and Oman have been discussing arrangements for safer passage through the strategic waterway. Their discussions include possible shipping routes and mechanisms for managing navigation. However, Tehran has indicated that any understanding with Oman would initially address technical matters. It would not necessarily represent a complete resolution of the wider dispute. Iran has also called for concrete assurances from Washington before moving towards the next stage of negotiations. Tehran wants guarantees that can be verified rather than verbal commitments. Pakistan has continued to encourage dialogue between the two sides. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif also indicated that Washington and Tehran could be moving closer to an understanding. He said recent signals suggested that the two countries were again moving towards a possible peace arrangement or deal. Meanwhile, Pakistan has invited Iranian Foreign Minister Araghchi and Iranian Parliament Speaker Bagher Ghalibaf to visit Islamabad. Iranian officials have said the visit would take place at an appropriate time. Naqvi’s trip to Tehran is therefore significant because Islamabad is maintaining direct engagement instead of waiting for the Iranian delegation to visit Pakistan. During his meeting with President Pezeshkian, Naqvi described Pakistan-Iran relations as strong and longstanding. He conveyed Islamabad’s intention to further strengthen ties with Tehran. Pezeshkian also stressed the importance of bilateral relations. He said stronger cooperation between Pakistan and Iran could serve their national interests and contribute to regional stability. The discussions come amid broader diplomatic and security developments in the region. Pakistan recently signed a trilateral defence agreement with Saudi Arabia and Turkiye. Islamabad has maintained that the arrangement is defensive and is not directed against any country. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar also discussed the agreement with his Iranian counterpart. He briefed Araghchi on its objectives and stressed its focus on strategic cooperation and regional peace. At the same time, US President Donald Trump has adopted a tougher tone towards Iran’s negotiating team. Trump described Iranian negotiators as difficult and accused them of making commitments privately and later presenting them differently in public. He also warned that Iran’s economic problems and inflation were becoming increasingly difficult to sustain. Trump said Washington could continue applying economic pressure on Tehran. He also suggested that the United States could take stronger measures if necessary. The contrasting positions underline the difficulties facing diplomatic efforts. Pakistan is now attempting to keep communication channels open with Tehran while encouraging a broader political process involving Iran and the United States.

Bunnie Xo explores new career chapter after report…

Bunnie Xo is reportedly turning the page on a new chapter of her life by exploring opportunities in reality television following her high-profile divorce from country music star Jelly Roll. According to People, the podcast host, author and entrepreneur has been holding meetings with producers, agents and production companies in Los Angeles as she considers starring in her own reality TV series. The reported project would mark Bunnie’s biggest step yet into mainstream entertainment as she continues to expand her career beyond podcasting.  The 46-year-old, whose real name is Alisa DeFord, has spent recent weeks embracing what she calls a fresh start after finalizing her divorce from Jelly Roll, born Jason DeFord. The former couple ended their nearly 10-year marriage earlier this summer in what has been described as an amicable split. Court records cited irreconcilable differences, and both agreed to keep details of the separation private while maintaining respect for one another.  Sources told People that Bunnie is eager to focus on new professional goals and has been seriously exploring television opportunities. One reported concept would follow her move into a shared compound with close friends, offering viewers a behind-the-scenes look at her personal life, business ventures and friendships. However, no official deal has been announced, and discussions are still in the early stages.  Bunnie first gained a loyal audience through her hit Dumb Blonde podcast, where she interviews celebrities, musicians and internet personalities while also speaking openly about her own life. Her candid personality and willingness to discuss difficult topics have helped her build a large following across social media platforms.  Since the divorce, Bunnie has continued sharing updates about her life with fans. She recently revealed that she is focusing on healing, personal growth and new experiences rather than jumping into another relationship. She has also documented several lifestyle changes, including moving into a new home, purchasing a luxury Rolls-Royce and planning to return to school by enrolling at Arizona State University for a double major.  Although public interest in her personal life remains high, Bunnie has emphasized that she wants to shape her own future through new creative projects. A reality series could give audiences a closer look at her life after divorce while showcasing the entrepreneurial side that has helped her build a successful media brand.  For now, Bunnie’s reported television ambitions remain in development, but the interest from Hollywood producers suggests she could soon become a familiar face on reality TV. As she navigates life after her marriage, she appears determined to transform a difficult personal chapter into an opportunity for professional growth, proving that sometimes the end of one journey can become the beginning of another.

    China’s internet obsessed with Moonshot&#82…

The release of Moonshot AI’s Kimi K3 has generated significant buzz across Chinese social media, sparking a vigorous debate about China’s emergence as a strong contender in the global AI race. The Chinese startup launched the open-weight model on Thursday, promoting its capability to align with dominant frameworks from OpenAI and Anthropic at discounted rates, while temporarily halting new subscriptions due to overwhelming demand. Kimi K3 has become the most prominent Chinese AI model to spark discussion about China’s position in the global AI landscape. The key question is how China will meet the rising demand for computing power, with Moonshot AI emphasizing that Kimi K3 converts computing power into AI capabilities more effectively than its predecessor. “Put simply, the more capable AI becomes, the greater its appetite for computing power. This race to build more powerful AI hardware isn’t slowing down anytime soon,” said a user from Shandong province. Another user from Jiangsu added: “Competition among AI software is likely to shift from focusing purely on performance to balancing both performance and token usage. In other words, it’ll become a competition over value for money. It doesn’t matter how powerful your model is if it uses too many tokens. And it doesn’t matter how good it is if the monthly subscription is too expensive.” The model has reportedly matched or outperformed GPT and Claude on some benchmarks, according to social media posts. The low-cost open-source nature of Kimi K3 has made it particularly appealing to developers and researchers, who have been eager to test its capabilities. The temporary halt on new subscriptions highlights the immense demand for the model, which has quickly become a viral sensation in China’s tech community. Moonshot AI’s launch of Kimi K3 reflects the growing competition in the AI sector, particularly between China and the US. Chinese companies are increasingly developing AI models that can compete with their American counterparts, often at lower costs. The success of Kimi K3 has fueled optimism about China’s ability to innovate in AI and has raised questions about the future of the global AI industry. As the demand for AI capabilities continues to grow, the competition between open-weight and proprietary models is likely to intensify. Kimi K3’s success suggests that open-weight models can be competitive, offering a viable alternative to proprietary systems from US companies. However, the debate over performance versus cost-effectiveness will continue to shape the direction of AI development. The viral success of Kimi K3 has put Moonshot AI in the spotlight, with many watching to see how the startup will navigate the challenges of scaling its operations to meet demand. The company’s ability to balance performance, cost, and accessibility will determine its long-term success in the competitive AI market. For now, Kimi K3 has captured the imagination of China’s internet users, signaling a new chapter in the global AI race.

Overnight missile barrage on Kyiv region kills 17,…

Russia launched a large scale missile assault on Kyiv and the surrounding region on Wednesday, killing at least 17 people and leveling warehouses belonging to major retail chains, according to Ukrainian officials, as Kyiv’s dwindling stock of air defence interceptors leaves the capital increasingly exposed. Explosions tore through the region overnight, lighting up the sky above the Ukrainian capital, which has faced missile attacks roughly every three to four days in recent weeks as Moscow has ramped up its aerial campaign. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said on Telegram that ballistic missile interceptors could have prevented the deaths recorded on Wednesday, calling on Ukraine’s international partners to replenish the country’s interceptor stocks. He said shipments of air defence missiles have arrived at only a third of the pace seen in 2025. Ukraine’s air force said its defences shot down close to 90 percent of the 115 drones Russia launched but failed to stop any of the 24 ballistic missiles or four Zircon cruise missiles fired during the same assault. Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces struck seven logistics centres in Kyiv and the wider region, claiming the sites were used to store or move dual use goods and drone components. Ukraine has struggled for months with a shortage of interceptor missiles for its US supplied Patriot systems, currently the only weapon in its arsenal able to shoot down Russian ballistic missiles traveling at many times the speed of sound. Since the outbreak of the Iran war in February, Patriot interceptors originally intended for Ukraine have instead gone to the US military and its Gulf allies. Russia has used the opening to intensify ballistic strikes on Kyiv and other Ukrainian cities even as its ground advances have slowed markedly this year. Officials said the attack injured more than 40 people in addition to those killed. At a commuter rail station in the Kyiv suburb of Brovary, rescue workers found seven bodies scattered across the platform, with an eighth victim discovered nearby in nearby bushes. Volodymyr Bigun, head of the local administration in Brovary, said residents had missed their last train home when the strike hit, and confirmed eight deaths in the district so far. He said five logistics warehouses sustained damage there, including one belonging to food retailer Fozzy, and accused Russian forces of continuing to target civilian infrastructure. Both Russia and Ukraine have consistently denied targeting civilians throughout the war, which began with Russia’s full scale invasion in February 2022. Ukraine has continued striking back at Russian territory as part of its own campaign, hitting a logistics hub belonging to Russian online retailer Wildberries in the Tula region overnight, adding to more than a dozen similar facilities Kyiv has damaged in recent operations. Epicentr, Ukraine’s largest home improvement retail chain, said two major logistics facilities and a manufacturing plant were destroyed within minutes during Wednesday’s strikes, and that it was still working to determine the full extent of the damage. The company described the attack as a deliberate effort to undermine Ukrainian manufacturing, logistics, employment and the broader capacity to recover from the war. Food retailer Silpo said on social media that at least six of its employees died in the strikes and that two of its distribution centres caught fire. Iryna Chechotkina, co founder of the online retailer Rozetka, said she watched overnight as three ballistic missiles destroyed years of work, describing the experience as devastating while stressing that her company remains operational. Ukraine’s economy has shown considerable resilience over more than four years of war, sustained in part by billions of dollars in financial support from Western governments, but business losses have mounted this year as strikes on commercial infrastructure have grown more frequent. The Kyiv regional military administration said Wednesday’s attack damaged 13 warehouses, a manufacturing facility, four private homes and dozens of vehicles. Prime Minister Sergii Koretskyi, who took office last month following a government reshuffle, said officials would hold an emergency meeting with business leaders to determine how to keep logistics and trade operations running smoothly. Kyiv has renewed its request for additional PAC-3 interceptors, the newest generation of Patriot missile. Separately, the United States is continuing talks that would allow Ukraine to manufacture Patriot missiles domestically, according to four people familiar with the discussions, even after President Donald Trump expressed skepticism about such an arrangement.
