Thailand Asks Israeli Envoy To Remind Nationals To Respect Thai Laws

BANGKOK, Thailand – Thailand has formally requested that the Israeli ambassador to Bangkok remind her nationals that, while the country welcomes tourists and values the income they bring, visitors must respect Thailand’s dignity, honour, culture and laws and cannot simply do whatever they want, Foreign Minister Sihasak Phuangketkeow said on Tuesday following talks with Ambassador Alona Fisher-Kamm. The foreign minister conveyed to the envoy that Thailand does not discriminate against Israeli nationals or any other foreigners but will strictly enforce Thai laws against anyone who breaks them, emphasising that tourists cannot come to Thailand, bring income to the country and then think they can do anything they want, Thai PBS reported.

Israeli man deported from Koh Samui under Thailand’s new deportation rules

The talks came amid growing attention to the activities of some Israeli nationals in Thailand, including cases that have resulted in deportations under recently tightened enforcement measures. Thai authorities are also investigating Jewish cemeteries, including sites in Bangkok and Chachoengsao, to determine whether they hold the required licences to operate. Meanwhile, former protest leader Sondhi Limthongkul has announced plans to lead supporters to the Israeli Embassy in Bangkok on Thursday to submit a letter protesting what he described as illegal activities by some Israeli tourists and businessmen in Thailand.

Speaking at a press briefing after the meeting, Sihasak stated that the discussions focused on concerns among Thai people over incidents involving Israeli nationals in the country, which could broadly be divided into two groups: Israelis who stay in Thailand for extended periods to conduct business and those accused of violating Thai laws. He stressed that Thailand would strictly enforce the law in such cases and that the policy was not discriminatory, pointing to the recent deportations of Israeli and French nationals as examples. He also raised concerns about the behaviour of some Israeli tourists, both short- and long-term visitors, which he said had affected the feelings of local people, Thai culture and traditions, and the ways of life of communities, singling out Phang Nga and Phuket where Israeli nationals have formed sizeable communities.

Israelis in Thailand Warned by Embassy to Comply Strictly With Thai Laws Amid Phuket Crackdown

Sihasak said visitors should understand and respect Thai culture and traditions, just as Thai tourists travelling abroad are expected to respect the customs and values of the countries they visit. He stressed that the government was not generalising about Israeli nationals as a whole but said some individuals needed to show greater respect for Thailand’s culture, values and local ways of life. According to Sihasak, the Israeli ambassador acknowledged the concerns, saying she was not ignoring the issue and had already visited affected areas to assess the situation. The envoy said the Israeli embassy would prepare information for Israeli nationals visiting Thailand on what they should and should not do, to be distributed through the Israeli embassy and consulates, as well as tour companies sending visitors to Thailand and airlines.

China lodges complaint after New Zealand’s W…

China’s embassy in New Zealand has filed a formal complaint after Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters told a Green Party lawmaker of Chinese descent to return to his own country during a heated parliamentary exchange. The clash unfolded Wednesday when Green Party member Lawrence Xu-Nan, who was born in the Chinese city of Tianjin but raised in New Zealand, asked Peters during a debate over the country’s Covid pandemic response whether he was vaccinated. Peters, who leads the populist NZ First party, responded by telling Xu-Nan he had arrived in the country only recently and should return home, adding a remark suggesting dishonesty in China that does not apply in New Zealand. He went on to describe New Zealand as a democracy, in contrast to what he implied Xu-Nan was used to, and told him to go back to where he came from. The remarks prompted an unusual public response from Chinese Ambassador to New Zealand Wang Xiaolong, who said on social media that he generally avoids commenting on domestic politics but suggested the statement revealed more about the speaker than anyone else. China’s embassy in Wellington confirmed it had lodged a complaint with New Zealand’s foreign ministry over what it called negative China related remarks from a New Zealand politician. Peters has stood by his comments, saying New Zealand’s democratic system protects free speech and rights that other countries restrict, at times through force. He said on social media that those offended by his remarks were welcome to the reality of living in New Zealand. New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon, whose National Party governs in coalition with Peters’ NZ First, criticized the remarks as inappropriate attention seeking behavior. This is not the first time Peters and his party, who hold significant influence as coalition partners in New Zealand’s fragmented political landscape, have faced accusations of racially charged rhetoric. Earlier this year, Peters’ deputy Shane Jones drew criticism for describing a free trade agreement with India as risking what he called a butter chicken flood. Last year, Peters and Jones faced backlash after Jones shouted at another lawmaker to send Mexicans home during a parliamentary debate, a comment aimed at a legislator who was actually born in the Philippines. Peters later told that lawmaker and Xu-Nan that they should show gratitude for being allowed to live in New Zealand. The episode adds to a pattern of controversies surrounding minor coalition partners in small parliamentary democracies, where kingmaker parties often wield outsized influence despite representing a smaller share of the electorate, occasionally straining diplomatic relationships in the process.

China leans on AI forecasting tools as Typhoon Dol…

China has ramped up investment in artificial intelligence powered weather forecasting as the country works to track a rising number of natural disasters and predict extreme weather events such as powerful typhoons, intense rainfall and prolonged heatwaves tied to climate change. The country has positioned itself as a leading force in data driven meteorology, increasingly running AI systems alongside traditional forecasting methods rather than replacing them outright. As meteorologists monitored Typhoon Dolphin’s approach toward China in recent days, a newer generation of AI weather models operated in parallel with conventional forecasting systems, underscoring China’s expanding role in the broader push to improve storm prediction. Unlike standard numerical weather models, which depend on powerful supercomputers to simulate the physics of the atmosphere, AI based systems instead learn from decades of historical weather data. That approach lets them generate forecasts within seconds or minutes while using only a small fraction of the computing power traditional methods require. According to a state affiliated newspaper, some of China’s most prominent AI forecasting tools include Fengwu, built by the Shanghai AI Laboratory, Huawei’s Pangu Weather system, and Fuxi, developed at Fudan University. These models are increasingly being put through real world testing during East Asia’s intense typhoon season, a period when even modest improvements in tracking a storm’s path can help authorities plan flood responses, coordinate evacuations and manage disruptions to transportation networks. Fengwu in particular has shown strong results in predicting storm trajectories, with researchers noting that AI based systems can produce forecasts far faster than conventional models while matching or, in some cases, surpassing them on certain accuracy measures. The rapid progress in AI driven weather forecasting has sparked growing competition among technology firms, research institutions and national meteorological agencies worldwide, with China establishing itself as one of the sector’s most active players. Even so, meteorologists caution that AI tools currently serve as a complement to physics based forecasting rather than a full replacement. These systems still struggle to accurately capture sudden shifts in storm intensity, and they remain largely untested when it comes to long term climate modeling. As a result, traditional forecasting methods are expected to remain a core part of weather prediction for the foreseeable future, even as AI tools continue to mature and take on a larger role alongside them. The push toward AI assisted forecasting fits into a broader global trend, as governments and research institutions increasingly explore machine learning as a tool for anticipating the growing frequency and intensity of extreme weather linked to a changing climate.

Olivia Rodrigo criticizes Trump over Planned Paren…

Olivia Rodrigo has once again spoken out on a political issue, criticizing US President Donald Trump over recent changes to federal funding for Planned Parenthood. The Grammy-winning singer joined a new awareness campaign highlighting the impact that the funding cuts have had on healthcare clinics across the United States. The campaign focuses on the consequences of legislation signed by President Trump that ended federal funding for Planned Parenthood, one of the country’s largest providers of reproductive and preventive healthcare services. According to the campaign, nearly 30 Planned Parenthood health centers have closed since the law took effect, raising concerns about access to medical care in several communities. In the campaign video, Rodrigo voices support for people who rely on the organization’s services. She argues that the closures could make it more difficult for many Americans to receive routine healthcare, including cancer screenings, birth control, sexually transmitted infection testing, and other preventive medical services. The singer has been outspoken on reproductive rights in recent years. She has previously used concerts and public appearances to encourage civic engagement and has supported organizations that advocate for reproductive healthcare access. Her latest campaign continues that advocacy, drawing attention to the real-world effects of policy decisions on patients and healthcare providers. Supporters of Planned Parenthood say the funding cuts will disproportionately affect low-income families and people living in rural areas where healthcare options are already limited. They argue that the organization provides a wide range of essential medical services beyond abortion care and plays an important role in preventive health. Meanwhile, supporters of the Trump administration have defended the funding changes, saying federal money should not go to organizations connected with abortion services. They argue that healthcare funding should instead be directed toward other medical providers that do not perform or support abortions. The debate has once again highlighted the deep political divide in the United States over reproductive healthcare. While advocacy groups continue to challenge the funding changes, supporters of the legislation maintain that the policy reflects their longstanding position on the use of taxpayer money. Rodrigo’s participation in the campaign has sparked widespread discussion online. Many fans praised the singer for using her platform to speak on an issue she believes is important, while others criticized her decision to enter another political debate. As with many celebrity statements on public policy, reactions have been sharply divided across social media. Although the discussion surrounding Planned Parenthood funding remains highly controversial, Olivia Rodrigo’s latest campaign has brought renewed attention to the issue. By speaking out, the singer has added her voice to an ongoing national conversation about healthcare access, government funding, and the role public figures play in shaping awareness of major social and political issues.
