Pakistan had made an early breakthrough in the morning session, dismissing well-set Kavem Hodge for 84 after West Indies resumed on 194-3 following a rain-truncated opening day. Khurram Shahzad struck early as Hodge edged to second slip, where Salman Ali Agha held a sharp catch, with the hosts adding just two runs to their overnight total .

The dismissal ended a 91-run partnership that had steadied the West Indies innings. From there, the hosts lost their way, losing wickets in quick succession despite brief stands . Justin Greaves and Hope added 34 runs for the fifth wicket before Ali’s persistence paid off. Ali got Greaves shortly after Hope had been dropped by Azan Awais in the slips, with Greaves managing just 15 .

Skipper Roston Chase arrived at 231-5 and added 26 with Hope before Mohammad Abbas found his edge, with Mohammad Rizwan taking a safe catch behind the stumps. Chase made 10 .

With the tail exposed, Pakistan sensed an opportunity to close out the innings, but Hope batted impressively including an elegant six over cover off Shahzad and shared a 17-run stand with Kemar Roach (3) to take West Indies past 300 by lunch . Hope’s resistance ended on 92 when Ali trapped him in front .

After lunch, Shamar Joseph was caught for 23 and Jayden Seales was bowled by Ali without scoring as the innings folded . Mohammad Abbas, continuing his return to form after being included in the touring squad for the upcoming England series, picked up three wickets in his 26 overs .

Pakistan will now look to build a substantial first-innings lead on a pitch that has offered increasing assistance to the seamers as the game has progressed .

    ISLAMABAD: Federal Health Minister Mustafa Kamal has offered himself for accountability following the deaths of newborns in a fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), as criticism over the tragedy intensified. Speaking to the media outside PIMS on Wednesday, Kamal said he had placed himself before Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for accountability and would accept whatever decision the premier makes. “I have presented myself before Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for accountability. He is my boss and will decide my fate,” the minister said. Kamal also assured that action would be taken against anyone found responsible for negligence or any other mistake linked to the incident. The minister said preliminary CCTV footage had provided investigators with an indication of how the fire started. According to him, the footage showed a spark near an air conditioner at around 6:38am. People were seen leaving the area shortly afterwards. He said the presence of oxygen in the ward caused the flames to intensify rapidly. Kamal maintained that the government would not conceal any information related to the incident and that those responsible would be dealt with according to the findings of the investigation. The minister faced protests and angry reactions from people gathered outside the hospital while speaking to reporters. The situation became tense, forcing him to leave the premises.     LHC sets judges’ schedule from August 10

    The Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued the judges’ roster for the sixth week of its summer vacation. The new roster will come into effect from August 10. It will cover proceedings at the principal seat in Lahore and the court’s regional benches. According to the roster, two division benches at the Lahore Principal Seat will hear appeals from Monday. Four judges will also work as single benches and hear cases of different categories. A two-member division bench headed by Chief Justice Aalia Neelum will hear appeals of all types. Another two-member division bench headed by Justice Sadiq Mahmood Khurram will also hear appeals in different categories. Chief Justice Aalia Neelum will also hear petitions as a single bench. She will deal with applications and petitions of various kinds during the week. Justice Shahid Karim will hear civil matters. Justice Sadiq Mahmood Khurram will deal with criminal petitions. Justice Syed Ahsan Raza Kazmi will hear civil petitions of different categories. The arrangement has been made to ensure that important cases continue to be heard during the summer recess. The roster also includes arrangements for the LHC’s regional benches. Justice Ahmad Nadeem Arshad will hear cases as a single bench at the Bahawalpur Bench. Justice Khalid Ishaq will perform the same role at the Multan Bench. At the Rawalpindi Bench, Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan will hear cases as a single bench. The issuance of the roster will allow the high court to continue judicial proceedings during the sixth week of summer vacations. The scheduled benches will hear appeals, petitions and other cases according to their assigned jurisdictions.
