The Rise of Diseases

The increasing number of diseases has become a serious concern in Pakistan. Dengue, malaria, hepatitis and many other illnesses are spreading due to poor sanitation polluted water air pollution and a lack of public awareness.

 

Hospitals are becoming overcrowded while many people cannot afford proper medical treatment.

The government should improve healthcare facilities, ensure cleanliness, provide safe drinking water and conduct awareness campaigns on disease prevention.

 

Citizens also have a responsibility to maintain hygiene keep their surroundings clean and follow basic health precautions.

Good health is the foundation of a strong nation. If immediate steps are not taken the rise of diseases will continue to threaten the well being of our people

  • Poultry industry linked to foodborne infections

    A new study warns that modern large scale chicken farming may be helping dangerous food poisoning bacteria spread more easily creating new risks for human health. Researchers from the Oxford University found that the rapid growth of industrial poultry farming has created ideal conditions for Campylobacter, a bacteria that causes food poisoning to grow spread and develop new traits. Campylobacter is one of the world’s leading causes of diarrhea and food poisoning. In the UK it causes around three and a half times more stomach illness cases each year than all other monitored foodborne bacteria combined. The researchers said the global chicken population has increased about sevenfold since the 1960s reaching around 31 billion birds. This growth has made it easier for bacteria carried by wild birds to spread among farm chickens. The team studied nearly 2,800 bacterial genomes collected from chickens and wild birds in 30 countries including the UK and the US between 1979 and 2024. Genetic analysis showed that the bacteria had developed changes linked to modern farming conditions. These included genes that help it resist antibiotics and survive more easily in large poultry farms. Researchers warned that rising antibiotic resistance is making Campylobacter infections harder to treat. The study’s lead author Sam Sheppard said the findings provide new evidence that human activities and environmental changes can increase the spread of infectious diseases. He added that understanding how bacteria evolve will be important for reducing future risks of animal to human diseases and antibiotic resistant infections.

  • YouTube adds custom thumbnails for shorts

    YouTube has launched a long awaited feature that allows creators to upload custom thumbnails for their YouTube Shorts. According to reports the new feature is currently available for creators who are part of the YouTube Partner Program (YPP). They can now choose and upload their own thumbnail images instead of relying on a frame from the video. This update gives creators more control over how their Shorts appear. They can design eye catching thumbnails that match their brand and make their videos more attractive to viewers. YouTube said custom thumbnails have been one of the platform’s most requested features. The company is rolling it out first to Partner Program members and plans to expand access to more creators in the future. Previously Shorts creators could only select a still frame from the video as the thumbnail making it harder to create a consistent look or build a strong brand identity. The new feature aims to solve that problem and improve the overall presentation of Shorts.

In today’s digital age, smartphones, social media platforms, and the internet have become an essential part of everyday life. While these technologies help people communicate, learn, and work more efficiently, their excessive use can have serious consequences for mental well-being. Digital depression is a condition in which prolonged use of digital devices and online platforms contributes to feelings of sadness, anxiety, loneliness, emotional exhaustion, and low self-esteem. It is becoming increasingly common, particularly among teenagers and young adults, who spend a significant portion of their day online. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), depression affects approximately 280 million people worldwide, making it one of the leading causes of disability. Although digital technology is not the sole cause of depression, research shows that excessive screen time and unhealthy social media habits can significantly increase the risk of mental health problems. A 2023 advisory by the U.S. Surgeon General reported that adolescents who spend more than three hours a day on social media are at a greater risk of developing anxiety, depression, and other mental health issues. Similarly, DataReportal’s 2024 Global Digital Report found that the average internet user spends approximately 6 hours and 38 minutes online each day, highlighting how deeply digital technology has become integrated into modern life. Several factors contribute to digital depression, including excessive use of social media, constantly comparing one’s life with idealized online images, cyberbullying, online harassment, poor sleep caused by late-night screen use, smartphone and internet addiction, and reduced face-to-face interaction with family and friends. The effects of digital depression can be both psychological and physical. People may experience persistent sadness, anxiety, loneliness, low self-esteem, difficulty concentrating, sleep disturbances, headaches, eye strain, fatigue, and reduced productivity. If left unaddressed, these problems can negatively affect academic performance, professional life, and personal relationships. Fortunately, digital depression can be prevented by adopting healthy digital habits. People should limit their daily screen time, avoid using electronic devices before bedtime, take regular breaks from social media, engage in physical exercise, spend more quality time with family and friends, and seek professional help if symptoms persist. Schools and parents should also educate young people about responsible technology use and the importance of maintaining a healthy balance between online and offline life. In conclusion, digital technology has transformed modern life by creating countless opportunities for education, communication, business, and innovation. However, when used excessively or without balance, it can seriously affect mental health.   • Woman dies after anti aging injection in New York

    A 27 year old woman in New York has died after receiving an anti aging injection at a private medical clinic raising serious concerns about unlicensed cosmetic treatments. According to foreign media reports the woman became critically ill shortly after the injection. An ambulance was called to take her to the hospital but she died before arriving. Police arrested 55 year old Luis Rojas Cabrera the man who gave the injection.  During questioning he admitted that he did not have a valid New York medical license to practice medicine. Authorities have charged him with practicing medicine without a license and putting another person’s life at risk through reckless actions. The suspect later appeared in a Bronx court. A judge allowed his temporary release but ordered him to surrender his passport until the post mortem report is completed. In court Cabrera said he is a licensed doctor in the Dominican Republic and also holds a medical assistant license in Puerto Rico.  He added that his application for a New York medical license is still under review. He also confirmed that the only license he currently holds in New York is as a cosmetologist not as a licensed physician.

    When Maryam Mirzakhani approached complex mathematical problems, she did not rush to find immediate solutions. Instead, she unrolled large sheets of paper across her floor, sat down with markers, and drew intricate shapes, loops, and abstract surfaces. A ritual so visual that her young daughter described her rigorous research simply as painting. Behind those quiet, methodical sketches was one of the most brilliant mathematical minds of her generation. A scholar whose work reshaped our understanding of spatial geometry and dynamic systems forever. Born and raised in Tehran, Iran, Mirzakhani’s early childhood ambitions centered on literature rather than numbers. She devoured books and dreamed of writing novels. However, during her high school years, her focus shifted dramatically as she discovered the creative, puzzle-like nature of advanced mathematics. Her extraordinary talent surfaced on the world stage when she represented Iran at the International Mathematical Olympiad, winning gold medals in back-to-back years at ages 17 and 18, including a flawless top score in her second appearance. After completing her undergraduate studies at Sharif University of Technology in Tehran, Mirzakhani moved to the United States to pursue graduate research. At Harvard University, under the mentorship of Fields Medalist Curtis McMullen, she tackled complex problems in theoretical geometry that had baffled researchers for decades. She earned her PhD at age 27, producing a doctoral dissertation so groundbreaking that it yielded multiple papers published in top-tier mathematical journals. Her career progressed rapidly, leading to a full professorship at Stanford University by the age of 31. Mirzakhani’s work specialized in theoretical areas such as hyperbolic geometry, Riemann surfaces, and moduli spaces. She’s expert in abstract concepts that involve understanding the geometry and dynamic possibilities of complex curved surfaces. While her research was firmly rooted in pure mathematics, it held profound implications for theoretical physics, quantum field theory and cryptography. In 2014, at the age of 37, Mirzakhani achieved a historical milestone. She was awarded the Fields Medal, officially known as the International Medal for Outstanding Discoveries in Mathematics. Widely regarded as the equivalent of the Nobel Prize for mathematics, the honor is presented only once every four years to exceptional scholars under 40. Mirzakhani became both the first woman and the first Iranian ever to receive the award since its establishment in 1936. Despite national and international acclaim, Mirzakhani remained famously modest. She often referred to herself as a slow mathematician. She emphasized that true insight comes from patience, resilience, and a willingness to feel lost before finding a breakthrough. To her, mathematics was not about fast calculations, but about deep, enduring understanding. Tragically, her life was cut short. Diagnosed with breast cancer in 2013, she continued her scholarly pursuits while fighting the disease. By 2016, the cancer had spread to her liver and bones. On July 14, 2017, Mirzakhani passed away at Stanford Hospital at the age of 40. Her passing sparked widespread tributes across the globe, with academic institutions, world leaders, and fellow scientists celebrating her contributions. Today, her legacy endures as a testament to human curiosity. Her life is an enduring inspiration for women pursuing careers in science and mathematics worldwide.
