Three suspects arrested in the murder case of young doctor Akash were killed during a police operation in Karachi after an alleged exchange of fire between law enforcement officials and criminal suspects.

According to the Special Investigation Unit (SIU), the incident took place in Umar Brohi Goth area of Gulshan-e-Maymar. Police officials said the arrested suspects had provided information about their escaped accomplices, following which a raid was carried out to arrest the remaining members of the group.

During the operation, the alleged criminals opened fire on police teams. Officials said a police officer was also injured in the firing.

The SIU claimed that the three suspects already arrested in connection with Dr Akash’s murder were killed after being hit by bullets fired by their own accomplices during the clash.

The case relates to a robbery incident in Karachi’s Clifton area on July 13. Dr Akash was killed when armed suspects opened fire outside a bank during a cash-snatching attempt.

Police said the suspects had targeted people carrying large amounts of cash. During the incident, the criminals allegedly took away Rs25 million from a total amount of Rs50 million withdrawn from the bank.

Investigators later found that the suspects arrested in the case were allegedly involved in other criminal activities, including robberies outside banks and attacks on traders in Karachi.

The police investigation also revealed the possible involvement of an unidentified woman in the robbery case. Officials said further investigation was being carried out to determine her role and identify other members of the criminal network.

Authorities said efforts are continuing to trace the remaining suspects linked to the gang. The police have vowed to take action against individuals involved in organised street crimes and cash robbery incidents across the city.

He assured that Pakistan will continue search, rescue and recovery operations until all possible efforts have been exhausted. In his statement, Dar extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and expressed solidarity with the governments and people of Nepal, China, Oman, the United Kingdom and the United States, whose citizens were among those killed in the tragedy. The deputy prime minister paid special tribute to legendary Nepali climber Nirmal Purja, describing him as one of the world’s most accomplished mountaineers. He also honored Pakistani climber Sohail Sakhi of Hunza, saying his bravery, determination and passion for the mountains would always be remembered. Dar said the courage and dedication shown by all the climbers reflected the true spirit of mountaineering. He added that their achievements would continue to inspire climbers across the world despite the tragic loss. He had returned to Pakistan in an attempt to become the first mountaineer to summit all 14 eight-thousanders twice without using supplemental oxygen.     Mir Raza case deepens as guest house probe expands

    A major development has emerged in the investigation into the death of Karachi businessman Mir Raza Ali. Investigators have obtained further details about the guest house linked to the case. The premises is located near the place where Mir Raza’s body was recovered. According to investigation findings, the guest house was registered in the name of a man identified as Liaquat Ali. The property itself is reportedly owned by a woman. Police verification of the property was carried out on June 1, 2026. Investigators also found that the guest house was not registered on the Hotel Eye application. Police had made registration on the system mandatory for hotels and guest houses. After the discovery of Mir Raza’s body, police sealed the guest house. Six people working at the premises were taken into custody for questioning. Their statements are being recorded as investigators try to determine whether the guest house has any connection with the case. So far, police have detained 21 people in connection with the investigation. The detainees include Mir Raza’s friends and business partners. Investigators are examining their statements and movements. A five-member investigation committee also held a meeting under the leadership of DIG Crime Branch Amir Farooqi. The committee is reviewing the case in light of new medical and forensic evidence. Police have also expanded the charges in the case. Sections 365 and 302 were already included in the FIR. Section 201 has now been added. The provision relates to concealing, removing or destroying evidence connected to an offence. The development follows a second post-mortem conducted after Mir Raza’s grave was exhumed on August 8. The preliminary medical findings reportedly showed several injuries on his body. The report indicated a gunshot injury to the back. The entry wound was smaller, while the wound on the front side was larger. Medical findings suggest that the bullet entered from the rear and passed through the body. The examination also found fractured ribs. Several injuries were observed on Mir Raza’s head and face. A wound and fracture measuring about 12 centimetres were found on his right thigh. Blood marks were also detected in tissues in the lower part of his body. Further examination revealed a deep injury and fracture in his jaw. Injuries were also found on his nose and other parts of his face. Investigators collected 17 samples during the exhumation. Samples from Mir Raza’s parents were also obtained for DNA comparison. The samples are expected to be examined at the forensic laboratory of the University of Karachi. After the samples were collected, Mir Raza’s body was reburied on the same day. Mir Raza Ali Khan had gone missing from the PECHS area on July 28. Police said he left his home at around 4:09am in an online taxi. His body was found two days later in Gulistan-e-Johar. Police officials said the body was in a badly damaged condition. A gunshot wound was also found on his chest. Investigators also found that Mir Raza’s social media accounts had been deactivated a day before his body was recovered. His family has consistently maintained that he was murdered. His father said Mir Raza was preparing for his marriage and was excited about starting a new phase of his life. His nikah had been scheduled for August 30 at Baitul Mukarram Mosque in Gulshan-e-Iqbal. The latest investigation has brought renewed attention to the guest house and the people associated with it. Police are now examining medical evidence, forensic samples, CCTV footage, statements and other available material.

Senior police officials visited the route to review security arrangements and monitor the deployment. The city administration urged residents to cooperate with law enforcement agencies, follow traffic advisories and use alternate routes to avoid inconvenience. In Lahore, the main Chehlum procession started from Haveli Alif Shah inside Delhi Gate and is proceeding along its traditional route before concluding at Karbala Gamay Shah. More than 10,000 police personnel have been assigned to provide security. Roads and streets connected to the procession route have been secured with barriers and barbed wire, while surveillance is being carried out through CCTV cameras, drones and sniper deployment on high-rise buildings. Officials said 43 Smart Safe City centres across Punjab are monitoring processions in real time. In Lahore alone, more than 800 surveillance cameras are being used to monitor processions, religious gatherings and other sensitive locations. Additional portable smart cameras have also been installed to strengthen security. In Rawalpindi, the central Chehlum procession commenced from Imambargah Ashiq Hussain under heightened security, with police and other law enforcement agencies deployed throughout the route. In Quetta, two major processions were taken out from Alamdar Road and Hazara Town to commemorate the martyrs of Karbala. More than 1,700 police personnel, supported by the Frontier Corps (FC), have been deployed to maintain law and order. Authorities sealed procession routes and intensified security checks at entry and exit points. CCTV cameras are monitoring the routes, while a Quick Response Force has been stationed at multiple locations to respond to any emergency. As part of the security measures, mobile phone and internet services have been temporarily suspended in several areas of Quetta. Across the country, law enforcement agencies remain on high alert to ensure the peaceful conclusion of Chehlum processions. Authorities have appealed to the public to cooperate with security personnel and follow official instructions to help maintain peace and public safety during the religious observance.

    Iran sets six conditions for reopening Strait of Hormuz

    Iran has set six conditions for the United States to allow the full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. The demands were presented by Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council. He warned that Tehran would not reopen the strategic waterway unless Washington changed its policy towards Iran. Zolghadr said the first condition was that the United States must not threaten Iran under any circumstances. The second condition calls for a permanent end to what Iran describes as war and aggression against the country and its allies. These include Lebanon, Palestine, Yemen and Iraq. Iran’s third demand is the lifting of the naval blockade imposed on the country. Tehran has also called for the withdrawal of US forces from areas surrounding Iran. The fourth condition concerns compensation for damage caused to Iran during the war. Zolghadr said Iran must receive full compensation for the losses it suffered. The fifth demand is the removal of what Tehran considers unfair and illegal sanctions imposed on the Iranian people. Iran’s sixth condition calls for the unconditional release of Iranian assets that have been seized or frozen abroad. Tehran wants these assets returned to the Iranian people. The Strait of Hormuz is a key international shipping route. It connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the wider Arabian Sea. A disruption in the waterway could have major consequences for global energy supplies and international trade. Iran has repeatedly stressed the strategic importance of the strait. Any decision regarding its reopening could therefore have wider regional and international implications. Zolghadr also said Iran would maintain its position regardless of whether the situation develops into further conflict or diplomatic negotiations.
