US, Russian envoys congratulate Pakistan on Indepe…

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s 79th Independence Day brought messages of goodwill from two major international partners, with the United States and Russia extending warm greetings to the Pakistani people and expressing hopes for continued peace, prosperity and stronger bilateral ties.

US Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker and the US diplomatic mission in Pakistan conveyed their Independence Day wishes to Pakistanis on Friday, marking the country’s 79th year as an independent nation.

In its message, the US Embassy recalled the long history of relations between the two countries, noting that the United States was among the early countries to recognise Pakistan after its creation in 1947.

The embassy said that Pakistan-US friendship had grown stronger over the decades, highlighting the enduring ties between the two countries and their peoples.

“Over the past 80 years, the friendship between Pakistan and the United States has grown stronger,” the message said, while extending wishes for peace, happiness and prosperity to the people of Pakistan.

The greeting comes as Islamabad and Washington continue to maintain engagement across several areas, including trade, investment, security, education and people-to-people ties.

Russia highlights Pakistani resilience

Russia’s ambassador to Pakistan also extended Independence Day greetings, describing the occasion as a reflection of the courage, determination and strong national spirit of the Pakistani people.

In his message, the Russian envoy praised the resilience demonstrated by Pakistanis and expressed confidence that cooperation between Moscow and Islamabad could continue to expand.

The ambassador said both countries would work together to strengthen mutual understanding and broaden their partnership in areas of shared interest.

The message underscored Moscow’s interest in developing closer relations with Islamabad at a time when Pakistan is seeking to expand its diplomatic and economic partnerships.

Messages arrive amid wider diplomatic engagement

The messages from Washington and Moscow came as Pakistan marked Independence Day with nationwide celebrations, flag-raising ceremonies and tributes to the country’s founding leaders and those who sacrificed for independence.

For Pakistan, such diplomatic messages carry significance beyond traditional greetings. They reflect the country’s longstanding relationships with major global powers and its continuing efforts to maintain engagement with partners across different regions.

As Pakistan entered its 80th year since independence, the messages from the United States and Russia shared a common theme: a desire for peace, prosperity and stronger cooperation.

While the two countries have different strategic relationships with Islamabad, their Independence Day messages highlighted the importance of continued engagement and mutual understanding.

For Pakistanis celebrating the day, the greetings added an international dimension to the occasion, with both Washington and Moscow signalling their desire to see Pakistan move forward with stability, prosperity and deeper partnerships.

Hrithik Roshan and Saba Azad spark breakup rumours again

Rumours surrounding Hrithik Roshan and Saba Azad’s relationship have resurfaced after a purported screenshot from the exclusive dating app Raya went viral on social media. The screenshot allegedly showed a profile featuring Hrithik’s photograph, age and Instagram handle. The bio reportedly described the person as an “Actor/Producer/Entrepreneur” based in Mumbai. Its sudden appearance online sparked widespread discussion, with social media users questioning whether Hrithik and Saba had ended their relationship. However, there has been no independent confirmation that the profile actually belongs to Hrithik Roshan or that the account is genuine and currently active. As a result, the dating-app screenshot remains unverified, despite generating considerable attention online. Amid the speculation, Hrithik and Saba were reportedly spotted together at PVR in Juhu, Mumbai. Their public appearance appeared to contradict the breakup rumours circulating online. The two were seen leaving the cinema together and reportedly walked hand-in-hand, giving the impression that they were still comfortable and close. The couple also appeared to have coordinated their outfits for the outing, with both wearing black T-shirts. Hrithik completed his casual look with a cap as they made their way out of the theatre. Hrithik and Saba have been romantically linked since 2021. Although they initially kept their relationship relatively private, the pair eventually began making joint public appearances. They officially drew wider attention as a couple after attending filmmaker Karan Johar’s 50th birthday celebration together. Since then, Hrithik and Saba have frequently been seen together at social gatherings, events and casual outings. Their relationship has continued to attract significant public interest, particularly because of Hrithik’s status as one of Bollywood’s most prominent actors. Before his relationship with Saba, Hrithik was married to Sussanne Khan. The couple tied the knot in 2000 and later welcomed two sons. Hrithik and Sussanne separated and eventually divorced in 2014, but they have maintained a cordial relationship and continued to co-parent their children. Saba has also developed a friendly connection with Sussanne and has been seen spending time with her and members of her family. Hrithik, meanwhile, shares a cordial relationship with Sussanne’s partner, actor Arslan Goni. Their modern family dynamic has often attracted positive attention from fans. The latest dating-app speculation has therefore remained unconfirmed, while Hrithik and Saba’s recent appearance together has seemingly eased concerns among their followers. Although neither has publicly addressed the latest rumours, their outing at Juhu PVR suggests that the speculation about a possible breakup may not reflect the current state of their relationship. For now, the alleged Raya profile remains unverified, and there is no confirmed indication that Hrithik and Saba have ended their relationship. Fans are likely to continue watching their public appearances for further clues, but any conclusions about their personal lives remain speculative until either of them chooses to comment publicly.

Bel Powley speaks out against J.K. Rowling’s views on gender

Bel Powley has publicly voiced her disagreement with J.K. Rowling’s views on gender while continuing to express her affection for the Harry Potter franchise. Powley, who is set to portray Aunt Petunia Dursley in HBO’s upcoming Harry Potter television adaptation, discussed her stance during an interview with The Telegraph published on Monday, August 10. The actress is also attached to the series as an executive producer. Speaking about Rowling’s controversial comments regarding gender and transgender people, Powley made it clear that she does not share the author’s perspective. “I strongly disagree with J.K. Rowling’s views on gender,” Powley said, adding that she believes the transgender community deserves “safety and dignity and respect and total acceptance.” Despite her disagreement with Rowling, Powley emphasized that her feelings toward the Harry Potter books and their magical world remain unchanged. The actress recalled growing up with the novels and described herself as part of the first generation of readers who experienced the franchise as it became a global phenomenon. “But I love Harry Potter,” Powley said. “I grew up with the books. I am from that first generation of readers and, again, I love magic and spookiness.” Her comments come amid years of controversy surrounding Rowling’s public statements about gender identity and transgender rights. The author first faced widespread criticism in 2020 after making comments that were viewed by many as dismissive of transgender identities. Rowling has repeatedly rejected accusations that she is hostile toward transgender people. She has defended her position by describing it as rooted in her concerns about women’s rights and feminism. Her statements have continued to generate debate among fans, celebrities and members of the entertainment industry. Powley’s remarks highlight the complicated relationship some Harry Potter stars and fans have with the franchise. While the series remains deeply meaningful to many people who grew up with the books and films, Rowling’s public views have also created divisions among sections of its audience. Meanwhile, HBO’s new Harry Potter adaptation is moving forward with a new generation of actors taking on the beloved characters. The first season will feature Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger and Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley. Janet McTeer will play Professor Minerva McGonagall, while Paapa Essiedu will portray Severus Snape. Nick Frost is set to appear as Rubeus Hagrid, Lox Pratt will play Draco Malfoy and Warwick Davis will portray Professor Filius Flitwick. The upcoming series is expected to revisit the story of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, introducing the magical world to a new television audience while offering a fresh interpretation of J.K. Rowling’s bestselling books. Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is scheduled to premiere on HBO Max during the Christmas season of 2026.
