She was earlier a wildcard entry on Bigg Boss 17. She has also appeared in ‘Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2’. The actress was picked up near Dadar where she went in solidarity with student protesters. The students are demanding answers over the NEET paper leak and several have died by suicide amid the fallout. Ayesha said she was not part of the actual protest. She had only stopped because her brother and male friends were already detained. In emotional videos on Instagram, she said her hands were shaking. She shared that she did not raise a single slogan, yet she was pulled into the police van. She said several policewomen had to escort her by force. She was later moved from Dadar to Worli police station and two of her female friends were with her. She kept asking police why she was detained but no one gave her a clear answer. In another post, Ayesha claimed that she was dragged despite standing peacefully and her questions to police went unanswered. The Mumbai protest is linked to a larger movement. Chris Brown responds to Lionel Richie’s jail joke

Chris Brown has responded to Lionel Richie after the legendary singer made a light-hearted joke about Brown and Usher’s ongoing R&B tour. Richie recently addressed the pair’s “The R&B Tour” while performing with Earth, Wind & Fire. During a break between songs at the Mortgage Matchup Center, the 77-year-old singer pointed out that Usher and Brown were attempting to bring something new to the R&B touring scene. “Usher, Chris Brown… see, they trying to do something new,” Richie told the crowd. However, he quickly reminded fans that artists from his generation had already created similar large-scale R&B performances decades ago. Referring to his time with the Commodores and Earth, Wind & Fire, Richie said they had been doing the same thing around 40 years earlier. He then added a cheeky remark that quickly caught the attention of social media users. “Only difference is, between then and now, we didn’t go to jail!” Richie joked. The comment drew laughter from the audience, while Richie appeared to realise that the joke could be taken seriously. He immediately softened his remarks, saying that they were “fine Christian men.” The clip of Richie’s comments soon went viral online, prompting Brown to respond directly. Rather than appearing offended by the veteran singer’s joke, Brown joined in on the humour. Commenting on a video of the incident, the singer wrote, “damn unk. We love ya paw paw,” accompanied by laughing emojis. His response suggested that he understood Richie’s comments as playful banter rather than a serious criticism. Richie’s joke comes at a time when Brown has faced renewed legal attention. The singer is reportedly seeking a retrial in a dog attack case in which he was ordered to pay millions of dollars in damages to a former housekeeper following an alleged incident involving his dog. Brown also recently pleaded guilty to affray over a 2023 nightclub incident in London involving music producer Abraham Diaw. Brown and his vocal coach, Omololu Akinlolu, who was also charged in connection with the case, are expected to be sentenced in October 2026. Meanwhile, Brown and Usher continue their major “The R&B Tour,” which features 33 stadium dates across North America. The tour began in June and has brought together two of R&B’s biggest modern stars for a series of highly anticipated performances. Usher has previously framed the tour as a celebration of R&B and its ability to fill major stadiums, rather than a competition between the two headliners. Richie’s comments therefore appear to have been more of a playful reminder of R&B’s long history than a serious criticism of Brown and Usher. Brown’s relaxed response also showed that he was willing to take the joke in good spirits.

The decision was taken by PML-N President Nawaz Sharif after consultations with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. Party sources confirmed on Tuesday that Qadir would take oath as AJK prime minister on Thursday at 5pm at the High Court Ground in Muzaffarabad. The nomination follows the recent AJK elections, which were held in three phases between July 27 and August 10. The PML-N emerged as the largest parliamentary party after securing 25 of the 38 directly contested seats. The Pakistan Peoples Party won 12 seats, while one member of the Awami Dast-o-Bazu joined the PML-N. Qadir is a veteran politician with more than three decades of political experience. He has held several important parliamentary and ministerial positions in AJK. He has served as finance, planning and development minister and also held the food ministry. He was elected speaker of the AJK Legislative Assembly twice. He currently serves as PML-N AJK president and leader of the opposition. Pakistani American Dr Asif Mahmood elected chair of US religious freedom commission

Pakistani American physician and human rights advocate Dr Asif Mahmood has been unanimously elected as chair of the US Commission on International Religious Freedom, becoming the first South Asian to lead the independent bipartisan body. Dr Mahmood, who previously served as the commission’s vice chair, described his election as a great honour and reflected on his journey from a small village in Pakistan to leading one of the world’s leading organisations focused on protecting freedom of religion and belief. In his acceptance remarks, he said he remains committed to defending the rights of people from all religious backgrounds as well as those who do not follow any faith. He expressed hope for a world where religious freedom, human dignity and peaceful coexistence are respected and protected. His appointment follows his reappointment to the commission for a second term in May 2026, extending his service until 2028. Earlier this year, he noted that he was the first Pakistani, the first Muslim and the first Asian American to serve consecutive terms on the commission. The US Commission on International Religious Freedom was established in 1998 under legislation signed by former President Bill Clinton. It serves as an independent advisory body that monitors religious freedom around the world and provides policy recommendations to the White House, the US State Department and Congress. The commission is made up of nine members appointed by the US president and congressional leaders from both major political parties. Dr Mahmood was reappointed by House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and now succeeds former congresswoman Vicky Hartzler as chair. Political observers have described his election as significant because of his Democratic Party affiliation despite receiving his latest appointment during the Trump administration. His leadership is expected to draw international attention, particularly because of his work on religious freedom issues in South Asia. Dr Mahmood has played a leading role in preparing reports examining allegations of religious freedom violations in India. He has publicly called for greater international scrutiny of the treatment of religious minorities and urged the United States to consider stronger measures in response to concerns raised by the commission. The commission has also recommended that US officials seek independent assessments of religious freedom conditions in India and consider targeted measures against individuals or organisations found responsible for serious violations. Those recommendations have generated considerable debate and have been strongly rejected by Indian authorities in the past. Beyond his work on religious freedom, Dr Mahmood has remained active in public service and politics. In 2022, he contested California’s 40th Congressional District as the Democratic candidate but was defeated by Republican incumbent Young Kim. Earlier, he also ran for California Insurance Commissioner and received hundreds of thousands of votes. A native of Kharian in Pakistan’s Punjab province, Dr Mahmood completed his medical education at Sindh Medical College before moving to the United States. He later completed his medical training at the University of Kentucky Medical Center and pursued a fellowship in pulmonary medicine at Harlem Hospital, which is affiliated with Columbia University. He currently serves on the Medical Board of California after being appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom in 2023. Over the years, he has also worked with several humanitarian and community organisations and has received recognition for providing free medical care to patients who could not afford treatment. His election as chair marks another milestone in a career that combines medicine, public service and advocacy for human rights.

Goods transporters postpone nationwide strike for …

The goods transporters strike has been postponed for 40 days after the government and representatives of the transport industry made progress in resolving several key demands. All Pakistan Goods Transport Ittehad President Malik Shehbaz Awan announced the decision on Sunday, saying the strike was being deferred in the “broader national interest”. He said some demands had already been addressed, while issues requiring cabinet approval would be considered within 15 to 20 days. A major concern for transporters is the government’s daily adjustment of petrol and diesel prices. The association has called for fuel prices to be revised on a fortnightly or monthly basis instead. Transporters also received assurances that overloading would be controlled according to legal axle-load limits. Discussions will continue on withholding tax and other industry-related issues. Awan said the Sindh government had agreed to shift truck operations to a new truck stand within a year. He also claimed that six of the association’s eight demands concerning Punjab had been accepted. Sindh Governor Nihal Hashmi and Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan welcomed the development and stressed continued dialogue. The 40-day postponement gives both sides an opportunity to resolve the remaining disputes and avoid further disruption to Pakistan’s goods transportation network.

Man arrested after alleged sexual assault of woman…

A 28-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 20-year-old woman on Brighton Beach, as Sussex Police continue their investigation into the incident. According to police, the alleged assault took place overnight between Tuesday and Wednesday on Brighton seafront. Officers responded to reports of the incident and immediately secured the area near the Brighton i360 tower, where forensic specialists examined the scene and gathered evidence. A significant police presence remained at the location while investigations were carried out. Sussex Police confirmed that a 28-year-old suspect was taken into custody on suspicion of rape. Authorities said the man remains under investigation and has not yet been formally charged. Under UK legal procedures, suspects are considered innocent unless proven guilty in court. Police have not released the identity of either the suspect or the victim. Officials also declined to disclose the suspect’s nationality, explaining that such information is generally not made public before formal charges are filed. The force said the woman is receiving support from specially trained officers and victim support services as the investigation continues. Authorities emphasized that protecting the victim’s privacy remains a priority. Investigators have appealed to members of the public who were in the Brighton Beach or Brighton i360 area at the time of the alleged incident to come forward with any information. Police are particularly interested in mobile phone footage, photographs, CCTV recordings, or eyewitness accounts that could assist with the ongoing inquiry. Sussex Police stressed that the investigation is still in its early stages and that further updates will be released as more information becomes available. Officers urged the public to avoid speculation while inquiries are ongoing. The latest investigation comes only weeks after another high-profile criminal case involving a sexual assault on Brighton Beach concluded in court. In that separate case, three men were convicted and sentenced to lengthy prison terms for the rape of an unconscious woman. That case is unrelated to the current investigation but has drawn renewed attention to public safety along the popular seaside destination. Police have reiterated their commitment to conducting a thorough investigation into the latest allegations and ensuring that anyone with relevant information contacts the authorities. The outcome of the case will depend on the evidence gathered during the investigation and any subsequent legal proceedings.
