“I am a retired Industrial Designer. Those out there who studied the curriculum know the hours and sleepless nights spent in the shop building scale models of soooo many consumer goods for curriculum projects….clay, plaster, and YES…WOOD.
I am speechless as I view this work of art.
YES…puns will abound here and as the new “caretaker”…(hopefully an arborist)… will soon discover…this is a MASTERPIECE in sculpting that will be the highlight any cruise/car show.
    One thing every…”

“A ton of period chrome doo dads added to this bike. I can see both sets of floor boards, all hand controls, grips, shifter pegs and foot brake, fork lowers, crash bars, most of the case covers, and others I might not be seeing. That dual exhaust alone was probably $1k. That’s what we did to these bikes back in the day!”

Somehow I slipped it in N and rolled backwards into the street… I remember mom running out of the laundry mat in her feather hat and night robe… ha ha… I also remember sleeping in the rear window on long journeys. Different times! I was 4”

“This is a staggering amount of engineering. To the casual observer it will be hard to detect as the person / team that did this, did it to an OEM standard where you can’t tell where the custom parts start and stop.
Just getting the new long block into the correct position (clears the hood, cross member, firewall, etc.) is hours of trial and error, design work and then fabricating. Then there are all the ancillary items that have to fitted, plumbed and wired, shift linkage, gauges, drive…”

“Man, already at $4M before I could get my comment in….
I want to thank the team at BaT for bringing us so far. It is amazing to cross the quarter million auctions milestone together.
And a big thank you to the @1600veloce team for helping us mark the occasion with this beautiful 288. Anthony gets so much well-deserved credit, but it takes the whole team there to do the amazing things they do.
And maybe my favorite part of BaT is that Lot #250,001, right behind this one, is a…”

Our team was so proud to be a part of this journey.
@bringatrailer Randy I want to thank you for all the support and the fun ideas we have bounced off each other all these years. This listing like any listing, can be a bumper for an MG to a Halo Ferrari. It all belongs here. The best site, the best community.
We discussed what type of car we would want to list. Well here…”

I still have my 35th anniversary 5 speed version, and it remains a pleasure to drive unlike most crude live axle domestics of the era.”

Baja California and back to Sacramento in a slant six Dart? That is an absolute adventure and proof positive that these cars were built for exactly that kind of journey. No drama, no breakdowns, just mile after mile of honest reliable transportation through some pretty unforgiving terrain. That slant six was one of the toughest engines ever bolted into an American car and your story is a perfect reminder of that.
Thank you for sharing that memory and for the kind words. That is…”

“There is a really really good chance that I painted the door jams on that car! I worked at the St. Thomas assembly plant in St. Thomas Ontario Canada from 1980 to 2011. Every time I see one of these it brings back really good memories. And trust me these things were built Ford tough. all the door jams on the early cars like this one we’re all painted my hand. In time we got the robots to start doing door jams. I was 21 years old when this car was built. Good luck with the auction I would love…”

Ventured into the garage with my 11yo and the owner says “go ahead, take a closer look, get in it!” A small conversation later and come to find out he is neighbors with a good friend of mine. We hve been good friends ever since.
