“This was my dream car when I was in 1st grade. I had (and still have) a Matchbox car of this car in the same color! This brings back so many great memories. Cars are a beautiful reminder of the past. @seller – thank you for bringing this to auction. Best of luck.”

“When I think about my 16 years with Penry, I often think about the adventures we went on. Here’s a little story for you….It was 2016 and I had been hired to do a show in Missoula, MT. The thought of not being able to mountain bike, camp, or play my guitar for a whole summer led me to pack him up and hit the road. I drove straight through to a friend’s house in St Paul. The next day I headed northwest to North Dakota so I could camp for a couple of days at Theodore Roosevelt National Park…”

“Ok, I am digging deep into the Archives on this one. The year is 1992 and this is my high school yearbook. My buddy’s dad had a 1987 black 911 turbo and my friends brother had a 1987 928 S4, the third one is me in my dad’s Porsche at 17 years old dreaming off the future. That picture is 34 years old and 51 year old me has it in my garage still:) This car has brought me happiness for decades and hopefully the next care taker of it will experience the same joy it has brought me and my family.”

“There has been a great deal of robust technical discussion about this remarkable car, but I would like to take the opportunity to share some additional background about my dad and what this car truly meant to him—and to our family.
In October of 1972, at the age of 39, my dad ordered the car, and it arrived in August of 1973. At the time, my sisters and I were 16, 13, and 10 years old. I clearly remember seeing it for the first time and thinking it was beautiful, powerful, fast, and loud.…”

“Ok, we’re starting to get more realistic with the bids. I have no stake in this auction but as I have to live up to my BaT nickname, I’ll put in my two-cents-worth: The narrow 4-headlight model is in the middle of the collectability hierarchy of the 603 line. My late-model ’69 sold here in 2017 is at the bottom as these are the most common. (Though the later ones have the advantage of 4-wheel disk brakes.) The early 3-headlight ones are the most desirable as they are very rare, have a more…”

Then the new girl friend asks me over to meet her family and what does the Dad have, an Opel Manta in orange. He takes me out to inspect it and at some point hands me the key and says, have fun. Well, I did and from that point forward my world changed. Tried to talk my dad into letting me buy an MGB, that didn’t work until I bought my own in college and started auto X’ing with it. Then road racing…”

“Wow !! Brings back wonderful memories as I learned how to drive on my Dad’s ‘60 Bonneville convertible ..He was a “car guy”having several Chrysler letter cars before I talked him into the Bonneville. Our neighbor had a ‘59 Bonneville convertible and he took me for a ride on a warm summer night with the top down …When he hit the gas and I heard that VROOOM of the carbs opening I was smitten !!

There was always a destination , but the journey was the reason , just a love of being on the open road and feeling young and unencumbered . I always used to have my “Road Trip” tape which i had previously recorded and was quite long and had a wide variety of music to listen to on the road but the same song , first up on the tape , “Vehicle” by The Ides of March always…”

I got it from the original owner’s family, and am technically the 4th caretaker. Since I also specialize in Fiats, I have serviced it mostly from new.
We take it on club tours, and it’s comfortable at an indicated 70+ mph. In 2024 we won worst in class at the concours d’lemons in Seaside California, and last year we…”

“I went through the police academy in one of these back in 1997. No Crown Vic could out run or out maneuver this car when we played cops and robbers on the obstacle course. It was hands down a superior car in terms of handling and horsepower. Every time I see one I’m taken back to the driving portion of the academy. Fond memories.”
