“In 1967, my dad informed me that he had purchased, with my savings, 1960 Falcon with 60K miles for $325.00.
While it would not have been my choice, I was excited to enter the world of independence from walking, bicycling and public transportation.
The 144 ci engine didn’t last long with my heavy foot and the constant diet of re-refined oil I fed it from our local Site gas station.
I found a 260 at the junk yard and that was a great improvement.

“New for me as well! “Scorpio” caught my eye – I had an ’89 Merkur Scorpio from new for several years and really liked it. But it had a V6 which I think was also used in the Bronco. In an amazing coincidence, a co-worked had a Merkur XR4Ti, so we had the rare parking lot that had two Merkurs in it. GLWTA”

As a child growing up, I was a rabid James Bond fan, and had started scuba diving at 12, and become a member of the Cousteau Society the same year.

“Still my favorite of the Cobra-R models. I know the 2000 seems to be everyone’s top pick, but I like the trimmer lines of the first generation SN95 and the ease of the 351W. I guess this one has such low miles it would be a shame to drive it much, but I would drive it regardless.”

Take note people, when you take it down to bare metal you’re doing a great job and less likely to have a chemical reaction from previous paint jobs. “That’s legit and 100% original IMHO. Worked at a Schwinn shop as a kid and put together a few of those. A lot of people (cool kids) ditched the front fender. That’s the original seat. Those are the original pedals. This is all recollection but very clear. . They were wheelie machines and no fun whatsoever to get up a hill! An early but awesome memory! GLWTA!”
