“Ah, the memories. Throwing those doors open to exit on a timed response only to have them not latch and come back on your hand, head, legs. Failing to latch the turret and spinning around on corners… enough to make you nauseous. Or backing in to the ATF with the M-60 not latched in the neutral position and bending the barrel (this actually happened). Maybe catching your boot on the door opening ledge and face planting. No one who rode in one doesn’t have an opinion on them.”

“I own one of these (long story), so I know they are something of a novelty rather than a serious sports car.
That said, they are such iconically cool cars. The grey/white background with the stainless foreground is just chef’s kiss photography. Calendar worthy shots aplenty in this gallery.
Best of luck with the sale! In keeping with the unspoken rules of quoting BTTF on all of these auctions, I’ll just paraphrase Doc Brown. “When this auction gets underway, you’re going to see some…”

“I live in Great Falls and recognized the lead photo. The fellow that accumulated these had a beautiful collection of fully restored cars. He owned several bars in town and had a gorgeous 50’s Corvette in one of them, Classic 50’s Diner. I am guessing these are either donors or projects he ran out of time for. One’s demise will do that to you.”

“In a sea of drab, soulless shape. Parking lots full of white, beige and Grey. Wouldn’t you like to stand out. That is exactly what you will get with this all new for 1957 Plymouth. 3 full years ahead of the competition. Just look at that styling. Gaze upon the majesty of color. Delight in the lines that none can imitate. You get more car, for less money.
Plymouth for 1957. Get yours today.”

“New for me as well! “Scorpio” caught my eye – I had an ’89 Merkur Scorpio from new for several years and really liked it. But it had a V6 which I think was also used in the Bronco. In an amazing coincidence, a co-worked had a Merkur XR4Ti, so we had the rare parking lot that had two Merkurs in it. GLWTA”

It has always been my dream to own a Clive Cussler owned vehicle. As Mr. Cussler created my all-time fictional hero, in Dirk Pitt.
To this day, part of my automotive bucket list if I ever had lottery money, is a Cussler musuem collection vehicle. Right after a MB 540K and a Duesenberg SC cabriolet.
As a child growing up, I was a rabid James Bond fan, and had started scuba diving at 12, and become a member of the Cousteau Society the same year.

“Still my favorite of the Cobra-R models. I know the 2000 seems to be everyone’s top pick, but I like the trimmer lines of the first generation SN95 and the ease of the 351W. I guess this one has such low miles it would be a shame to drive it much, but I would drive it regardless.”

“Thanks everyone. That was fun. My first bids and win on BaT. What a cool community.
I saw this car with Mario at the helm at Portland in ’91. My first indy car race with my dad, who is a huge Mario fan. Sentimental value is off the charts for me.”

“As a 48 year old blue collar helicopter mechanic with no inheritance coming, I really appreciate a vehicle like this. Even to be able to change the spark plugs would be an honour to someone like me.
This car is about as perfect a specimen of machinery as you can have. Congratulations to whoever the new owner is, as well as a hearty thank you to the previous and current owner for being such amazing caretakers and stewards of such a treasure.”

“Son of the former owner here. While many will associate this car with Martin Swig, this is the car I will always associate most with my dad.
I won’t try to compare my dad’s looks with those of a Sprint Lightweight, but the two had more in common than you might think. The more time you spent with either, the more you discovered beneath the surface. Behind that easygoing exterior was a playful, competitive spirit, very much tuned for speed and performance.
Dad bought the car around the time…”

Thank you for the shout Randy @BaT – I would’ve missed the listing otherwise. Time travel is fun, eh?
I bought this car in Las Vegas in 2012 after years of hunting for a good one. Even back then, they were quite rare. On the drive home to San Francisco, I took a dirt detour through Titus Canyon in Death Valley, and you can see pics from that in the original auction gallery. “In many respects the Z432 is like the 911 Carrera RS 2.7.
Very rare, look nearly identical to their garden variety siblings and the high desirability is based all around the engine.
Having a production car in 1972 with a redline of 7500-rpm was insane and the technology that went into that cylinder head was something the Europeans were not even doing until the next decade.
To some degree Nissan did themselves in, as the L-series grew to a 2.8L, a modified L28 could easily outgun a 432.…”

“In the fall of 1975, Fort Stockton had a way of educating you whether you asked for it or not.
That afternoon, the freshman left Jim Bowie High School—“Home of the Fighting Knives”—with his head full of Health & Human Anatomy, a class that had spent the better part of the day explaining things nobody had ever explained to him before, using charts that looked like they’d been drawn by a committee with a grudge. The bell rang, chairs scraped, and every boy in the room walked out…”

“Had mine for almost two years, absolutely love it (V6, manual, sport suspension with Goodyears). Some people may be put off by a sports car that can lose a 0-60 battle with a modern high-end SUV, but that’s not the type of person that owns a Lotus long-term. These cars talk to you and let you know how you the inputs you make create the overall experience. I wanted this car because I wanted engagement.

We went into the Nissan dealership and there was a 50th anniversary 300ZX which looked exactly like this one. Compared to what I was used to riding around in at the time, the Z was a spaceship in comparison. So cool and I didn’t really know what a turbo was, but I knew I wanted one! The dealership had it roped off to keep drooling kids and teens like me aways from…”
