22 dead, 183 injured in Punjab rains

Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) Director General Umar Abbas has said that 22 people have died and 183 others were injured in various rain-related incidents across Punjab.

Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, Abbas said the Gujranwala and Rawalpindi divisions received the highest rainfall during the recent spell. He added that the water situation in the Ravi and Sutlej rivers remains normal.

According to the PDMA chief, a breach developed in an embankment in Sheikhupura, but authorities immediately repaired it and filled the gap.

Abbas said new machinery had been acquired under the Punjab Development Programme to improve the province’s ability to respond to emergencies. He claimed that water accumulation this year was three times lower than last year.

He said the authorities had also completed the cleaning of major drains before the monsoon season to reduce the risk of urban flooding and waterlogging.

The PDMA director general said Punjab’s electricity infrastructure is outdated, and relevant authorities are reviewing several issues concerning the power system.

He further said that encroachments and people living in riverbeds have been removed as part of measures to prevent casualties during flooding.

According to Abbas, protective embankments are also being constructed at several locations along rivers to strengthen flood protection and minimise the impact of rising water levels.

The latest figures highlight the continuing risks posed by heavy monsoon rains across Punjab, while authorities are monitoring rainfall, river levels and vulnerable areas to prevent further loss of life and property.

Pakistani celebrities who faced backlash for criticizing fellow stars

Public figures are often judged not only for their professional achievements but also for how they speak about others. In Pakistan’s entertainment industry, several well-known personalities have sparked backlash after making controversial comments about fellow celebrities. While many of them built strong reputations through years of successful work, repeated public criticism and high-profile disputes have affected how sections of the audience view them. Veteran actor Firdous Jamal is one such example. Widely respected for memorable performances in television dramas, he found himself at the center of controversy after making remarks about actress Mahira Khan’s age and suitability for leading roles. His comments drew widespread criticism from both fans and members of the entertainment industry. In the years that followed, he continued making critical statements about several actors and industry veterans, further fueling debate. Personal family matters that became public also contributed to the negative attention surrounding him. Acclaimed writer Khalil-ur-Rehman Qamar has also remained a frequent topic of discussion due to his outspoken views. Known for penning some of Pakistan’s biggest television hits, he has often generated headlines for controversial interviews and public disagreements. His criticism of fellow celebrities, debates over social issues, and several personal controversies have divided public opinion, with supporters praising his honesty while critics accuse him of unnecessary hostility. Television host Nadia Khan, once celebrated as one of Pakistan’s pioneering morning show presenters, has faced criticism in recent years for her role as a drama reviewer. Her reviews, impersonations, and candid remarks about actors and television serials have often gone viral. While many viewers appreciate her straightforward opinions, others believe her comments sometimes cross the line and unfairly target fellow artists. Actor and producer Fahad Mustafa also came under public scrutiny after responding to comments made by senior actress Atiqa Odho regarding casting choices. His remarks during the exchange were widely criticized on social media, with many users describing them as disrespectful and ageist. The controversy prompted significant online debate and placed the star under intense public attention. Veteran actress, director, and filmmaker Sangeeta has similarly attracted criticism over her public statements. Some of her comments about fellow celebrities and revelations about past industry relationships were viewed as unnecessary by many fans. More recently, her remarks regarding actress Naeema Butt also generated discussion on social media, leading to mixed reactions from audiences. Television anchor Iqrar Ul Hassan, known for investigative journalism, has also seen his public image become increasingly polarizing. While he earned widespread recognition through his reporting career, his involvement in political matters, public disputes, and controversies surrounding his personal life have led to divided opinions among viewers. Viral incidents and outspoken statements have continued to keep him in the headlines. Media personality Dr. Omer Adil, once admired for hosting cultural and entertainment programs, has built a strong online presence through podcasts and YouTube discussions. However, his frequent criticism of celebrities and commentary on entertainment industry figures have changed how some longtime followers perceive him. Although he continues to attract viewers with his opinions, his style has also invited criticism from those who believe his remarks have become overly confrontational. These controversies highlight how public statements can significantly influence a celebrity’s reputation. In today’s digital era, where interviews and social media clips spread rapidly, even a single comment can shape public perception and spark widespread debate across the entertainment industry.

US military faces growing strain as Iran conflict tests support for Israel

A senior American military commander has warned that the United States could soon struggle to maintain its support for Israel while also protecting its own military interests across the Middle East. The warning reflects increasing concern inside the Pentagon that the ongoing conflict with Iran is placing heavy pressure on US naval forces and missile defence resources. According to reports from The Washington Post and other international media outlets, General Alexus Grynkewich, who leads US European Command, has told Pentagon officials that American naval assets in the region are becoming overstretched. He reportedly said that unless another US Navy destroyer is deployed, military commanders may eventually have to choose between defending American personnel and continuing missile defence operations in support of Israel. His assessment has drawn attention because it comes from one of the senior officers directly responsible for overseeing US military operations rather than from outside analysts. It suggests that the growing demands on American forces are becoming a serious concern at the highest levels of military planning. US Navy destroyers equipped with the Aegis combat system have played a major role in helping defend Israel from Iranian missile attacks. These warships are capable of detecting incoming ballistic missiles and intercepting them using advanced SM-3 and SM-6 missile systems. However, these destroyers are also critical to American security operations around the world. They are needed in the Indo-Pacific to counter China’s growing military presence, in Europe to support NATO allies, and across the Middle East to protect US military bases and key shipping routes. Sending more of these ships to one conflict reduces the military’s ability to respond quickly to other global crises. The conflict has also placed significant pressure on America’s stockpile of advanced missile defence systems. Pentagon assessments reported by The Washington Post indicate that US forces have fired more than 200 THAAD interceptors during the fighting with Iran, which is believed to be nearly half of the country’s available inventory. In addition, US Navy ships have launched more than 100 missile interceptors. Although Israel also relied on its own defence systems, including the Arrow and David’s Sling missile shields, American support proved essential during the most intense phases of the missile exchanges. Military experts say the challenge goes beyond the number of missiles used. Advanced interceptors are highly sophisticated weapons that require considerable time and resources to manufacture. Replacing depleted stockpiles cannot happen quickly, raising concerns about America’s ability to sustain long conflicts while remaining prepared for new security threats elsewhere. Defence planners have warned that prolonged military operations could leave the United States with reduced inventories of some of its most important air defence weapons. For many years, US military strategy has been based on the ability to respond to several major conflicts at the same time. The country maintains security commitments across Europe, the Middle East, and the Indo-Pacific, requiring a constant supply of military equipment and personnel. The latest warning from US European Command suggests those assumptions are now being tested as growing global tensions demand the same resources in multiple regions. An analysis by the Center for Strategic and International Studies, cited by CNN, estimates that the US has already used a large share of its advanced missile inventory in recent weeks. The report suggests that around half of the country’s THAAD and Patriot interceptors have been consumed, while substantial numbers of Precision Strike Missiles, Tomahawk cruise missiles, Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missiles, and SM-3 and SM-6 interceptors have also been used. The findings highlight a broader challenge facing the US military. Although it remains one of the world’s strongest armed forces, modern warfare is consuming advanced weapons at a pace that is difficult for defence industries to match. As conflicts continue across different regions, Washington may increasingly face difficult decisions about where to deploy its military resources.

Sanam Saeed and Emmad Irfani are set to reunite on television with their upcoming drama Gulbahar, and the newly released teaser has already created excitement among Pakistani drama fans. The teaser comes shortly after the actors earned widespread appreciation for their pairing in Kafeel. (Reviewit.pk) Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Mehreen Jabbar and written by Aliya Bukhari, Gulbahar appears to explore marriage, emotional distance and the longing for parenthood. The teaser presents Sanam Saeed and Emmad Irfani as a married couple whose relationship is being tested by an unfulfilled dream of having a child. (FUCHSIA) Rather than relying on dramatic confrontations, the teaser uses quiet and emotionally restrained moments to establish its mood. Glimpses of an empty crib, a child and the couple’s emotional struggles suggest that motherhood and parenthood will play an important role in the story. Sanam Saeed appears to portray a woman deeply affected by her desire to become a mother. Her expressions in the teaser hint at loneliness and emotional exhaustion, while Emmad Irfani’s character appears to be dealing with the same situation from a different perspective. The teaser leaves several questions unanswered. Will the couple choose adoption? Will their inability to have a child create distance between them? Or will outside expectations put further pressure on their marriage? According to early reports, the drama revolves around a childless couple who face the difficult decision of whether to adopt. This gives Gulbahar an opportunity to explore a subject that is rarely handled with enough sensitivity on Pakistani television. (Reviewit.pk) The reunion of Saeed and Irfani is another major attraction. Their previous project Kafeel gave audiences a complicated marital relationship, and viewers are now curious to see them take on a completely different dynamic. Social media reactions to the Gulbahar teaser have already shown strong interest in seeing the pair together again. (Reviewit.pk) Mehreen Jabbar’s involvement has also raised expectations. Known for her distinctive visual storytelling, the director appears to be taking a more intimate approach with Gulbahar. The teaser’s quiet atmosphere and focus on emotion suggest that the drama may depend more on character development than sensational twists. At the same time, some viewers are already wondering whether the story will take a conventional route involving pressure for another marriage or family expectations. These possibilities remain speculation until the drama reveals more about its characters and storyline. For now, Gulbahar promises an emotionally driven story about marriage, love, longing and the meaning of family. With Sanam Saeed and Emmad Irfani leading the cast and Mehreen Jabbar behind the camera, the drama has already given audiences plenty of reasons to be curious.
