3 Minutes of running may boost health

Want to lower your risk of obesity type 2 diabetes and other long term health problems as you get older?  A new study suggests that even a few minutes of running each day may trigger important changes in the body.

Researchers at Rockefeller University found that short bursts of running can cause major changes in the body that may not happen in the same way after longer periods of moderate exercise.

The study analyzed health data from more than 53,000 people. Researchers found that six short bursts of running each lasting about 30 seconds, could quickly change the levels of nearly one quarter of the proteins measured in the blood.

Short runs trigger changes in the body

The researchers found that running affected more than 200 metabolites which are substances produced during the body’s chemical processes.

Short intense exercise also increased certain proteins linked to blood vessel function tissue repair and hormone signaling. Some of these proteins can help send signals through the bloodstream and may support better blood flow.

Running may support metabolic health

The study also looked at how fat cells respond after running. Researchers found noticeable changes in these cells following short periods of exercise.

Interestingly 90 minutes of moderate exercise did not produce the same immediate response seen after the short running sessions.

The researchers believe that the proteins activated by running may be linked to a lower risk of cardiovascular and metabolic problems. These changes may be especially useful in reducing the risk of conditions such as obesity and type 2 diabetes.

Exercise intensity may matter

One important finding was that the body’s response was not simply about exercising for a long time.  The intensity of the activity appeared to have a strong effect on certain proteins.

Researchers also observed similar responses during an eight week training period, suggesting that these changes may not be limited to a single workout.

The findings highlight an encouraging message you may not need a long workout to get your body moving. Even short bursts of running can trigger powerful biological responses.

However people with health conditions or those who are not used to intense exercise should start gradually and seek medical advice when needed.

Her marriage to Dušan directly altered his formal imperial standing, allowing him to claim authority not only over the Serbs and Greeks, but over the Bulgarians as well. The couple later gave birth to Stefan Uroš V, an heir who embodied the consolidated royal houses of the region. Yet, the Bulgarian connections within the Serbian royal court ran much deeper than Dušan’s marriage alone. Dušan himself was bound to Bulgaria by blood through his mother, Queen Theodora Smilets. As the daughter of Tsar Smilets, who ruled the Second Bulgarian Empire from 1292 to 1298 AD, Theodora brought rich dynastic heritage into the Nemanjić house. Thus, when Dušan rose to power and eventually established the grand Serbian Empire, he did so as a monarch who was inherently a product of both Serbian and Bulgarian elite lineages. The fresco preserved in Lesnovo illuminates this intertwined destiny. Depicting the imperial family dressed in rich, jewel-encrusted Byzantine-style robes, it reflects an era when diplomatic ties, shared heritage, and strategic royal marriages could unite rival realms under a single, dominant imperial banner. Today, these historical records and vibrant monastery paintings remind us that the borders of the medieval Balkans were constantly reshaped not just on the battlefield, but through the formidable power of dynastic unity.

A study conducted in Germany found that excessive internet use can lead to higher stress levels irritability and less interest in other important activities. Researchers at the University of Duisburg-Essen surveyed around 900 people to learn about their internet habits. Based on the amount of time they spent online participants were divided into three groups. For two weeks each participant completed a short survey every evening. They reported their mood stress levels desire to use the internet and the total time they spent online that day. The researchers also examined how much people enjoyed using the internet and whether it affected their work hobbies studies or personal responsibilities. The study found that people who spent the most time online were more likely to feel stressed become easily irritated, and ignore other parts of their daily lives. Researchers also discovered that many heavy internet users felt a strong urge to go online because it gave them comfort and enjoyment. According to the researchers the findings show that excessive internet use can influence many areas of life and the risks are greater for people who spend long hours online regularly.

    China’s Chongqing East becomes world’s largest railway station

    Almost everyone has travelled by train at some point and has seen railway stations. But do you know which country is home to the world’s largest railway station? If you do not, here is the answer: the world’s largest railway station is located in China and is nothing short of an architectural marvel. China is already known for numerous engineering wonders ranging from remarkable bridges to the world’s largest high-speed railway network. Chongqing East Railway Station Chongqing East Railway Station located in southwestern China is the world’s largest railway station in terms of area. It was opened to the public in June 2025. The railway station covers an area of approximately 13 million square feet equivalent to around 170 football fields. It is also about five times larger than New York’s Grand Central Terminal. The station has 15 platforms and 29 railway tracks and during peak hours, it can accommodate around 16,000 passengers per hour. Around 16,500 tonnes of steel were used for its roof. However, the most remarkable feature of the station is the speed at which it was constructed and it was built on top of a mountain. The Chongqing region is mountainous which has traditionally made the development of transportation infrastructure particularly challenging. The station was constructed in just 38 months with the help of around 40,000 workers and a fleet of robotic machinery. Although 38 months may seem like a long period, in many countries, simply obtaining approval for projects of this scale can take longer than that.

    Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) have created a unique robot that can both fly through the air and swim underwater just like diving birds. The lightweight robot costs around $300 and was designed by MIT’s AeroAquatic Robotics team.  Scientists believe it could one day help monitor oceans study marine life and support environmental protection. The robot was inspired by diving birds which use the same wings to fly in the air and move through water.  While scientists have studied these birds for years building a robot that can perform both tasks efficiently has been a major challenge. To solve this the MIT team carefully studied how diving birds move and used those findings to design the new machine. The robot called the Flapping Aerial Aquatic Vehicle weighs only 250 grams.  It runs on a battery powered motor and has nylon wings and a tail coated with water resistant nanoparticles to protect them from moisture. According to the researchers the robot is programmed to flap its wings at a specific frequency allowing it to move smoothly in both air and water without changing its basic movement. It can fly at speeds of up to 13.4 miles per hour and swim at about 2.2 miles per hour. On a single battery charge it is designed to fly as far as 6 kilometers or swim up to 2 kilometers. The robot was tested for about one year first in a water tank in Massachusetts and later in Lake Geneva Switzerland where researchers evaluated its performance in real world conditions.

    Robot phone launch date announced for August 12

    Beijing – A Chinese company is set to introduce what is being described as the world’s first robot phone and its unique feature is likely to surprise many people. Robots are gradually becoming part of everyday human life and now a Chinese company has announced the launch of its first robot phone. According to foreign media reports, the company will launch the phone in China on August 12. Its most distinctive feature is its camera which is not fixed like the camera on a conventional smartphone. The phone features a unique robotic camera system that can rotate while recording videos offering movements similar to those of a professional camera. In addition, a special camera module is installed on the top of the phone. It can pop out when needed and rotate in different directions. The phone’s camera system does more than simply move. It also uses artificial intelligence (AI) to automatically track a person or object in front of it. Similarly, if someone is walking or recording a video, the camera can automatically follow their movements. This can make video recording smoother and give the footage a more cinematic appearance. The Chinese company has confirmed that the robot phone will feature a triple rear-camera setup. Its primary camera will have a resolution of 200 megapixels. This means the phone will not only be capable of taking high-resolution photos but will also be able to capture better images of objects from a distance.

    Running out of fuel while driving can leave you stranded so it is important to pay attention when the fuel warning light appears on your dashboard. Many drivers wonder how far they can travel once this light turns on.  The answer depends on several factors including your car’s model age fuel efficiency driving style road conditions and weather. Experts say the fuel warning light usually comes on when only about 10% to 15% of the fuel tank is left. In most cases small cars can still travel around 20 to 30 miles (32 to 48 km) after the warning light appears. Larger vehicles may be able to drive up to 50 miles (80 km) before running out of fuel. However older vehicles rough roads heavy traffic or cold weather can reduce that distance because the engine uses more fuel in these conditions. Experts also warn that repeatedly driving until the tank is nearly empty may damage the fuel system or engine over time. While driving a few extra miles after the warning light comes on is usually safe it is always best to refill your tank as soon as possible.
