Pattaya City Holds Meeting on Preparations for Pattaya Marathon 2026 Next Month, Discusses Traffic Preparations and Road Closures

PATTAYA, Thailand – August 10th, 2026

In the afternoon of August 10th, 2026, at Meeting Room 131 of Pattaya City Hall, Deputy Mayors of Pattaya City Mr. Kritsana Boonsawat and Mr. Manoch Nongyai headed a joint meeting with city executives and heads of government departments, led by Permanent Secretary of Pattaya City Mr. Kiatisak Sriwongchai, along with relevant officials and representatives from Trilogy (Thailand) Co., Ltd.

The meeting focused on discussing and monitoring all aspects of readiness for the “Pattaya Marathon 2026,” organized by the Office of Tourism and Sports of Pattaya City. The event is scheduled for September 27–28, 2026, and is expected to attract more than 20,000 Thai and international runners.

Organizers presented the event format and held comprehensive discussions on key issues. These included improvements to the race routes and consideration of relocating the starting point to better accommodate the large number of participants, ensuring smoother operations at both the start and finish lines. Plans were also reviewed for the installation of two temporary pedestrian overpasses, approximately four meters high, to facilitate the movement of athletes, officials, and local residents.

Additionally, the meeting addressed preparations for tourists and runners in the event that accommodations become fully booked.

Officials also reviewed significant issues encountered during last year’s event, particularly the impact of traffic closures on local residents and businesses during the race such as temporarily blocking access to the Pratumnak Hill area for regular residents. Proposed solutions for this year include implementing rolling traffic closures, conducting thorough advance public announcements of route changes, establishing clear detour routes, and coordinating closely with relevant agencies to minimize disruption to the public as much as possible.

Deputy Mayor Mr. Kritsana Boonsawat stated that Pattaya City places high importance on multi-dimensional preparations to ensure the Pattaya Marathon is organized efficiently and with the highest level of safety, prioritizing both the runners and the local community. The city is committed to elevating the event to international standards while promoting the local economy and tourism, and reinforcing Pattaya’s image as a sustainable Sports City.

Pattaya City will hold further follow-up meetings with relevant agencies to further enhance the standards and readiness of the event.

How pakistani pensioners can get a free proof of l…

Pakistani pensioners can now obtain their Proof of Life certificate free of charge without having to visit a bank or pension office, thanks to a new digital and nationwide service introduced by the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). The facility is available through the Pak ID mobile app, NADRA Registration Centres, Union Councils, e-Sahulat franchises and NADRA’s mobile services across Pakistan. The initiative has been introduced on the special directions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior and Narcotics Control Ministry of Defence Controller General of Accounts (CGA) and Military Accountant General (MAG). The service is particularly aimed at helping elderly bedridden and differently abled pensioners who may find it difficult to travel repeatedly to banks or pension offices to fulfil the Proof of Life requirement. How to Get Proof of Life from Home The easiest option for eligible pensioners is the Pak ID mobile app. Pensioners can complete the required identity verification process through the app and obtain their Proof of Life certificate from home. Pensioners who cannot use the Pak ID app themselves can also receive assistance from a family member. A family member may use their own Pak ID account to complete the prescribed identity verification process for the pensioner. For those who require in-person assistance, the service is available free of charge at more than 5,000 e-Sahulat franchises across the country. Pensioners can also visit more than 988 NADRA Registration Centres and around 500 Union Councils, where priority services are being provided without requiring them to wait in the regular queue. Pensioners who cannot easily travel to a service point can use NADRA’s mobile registration vans, biker services and main pack services. National Pensioners Register The Proof of Life facility is part of a wider reform initiative under which NADRA has established a National Pensioners Register. In its first phase pensioners administered by CGA and MAG have been included in the database. The digital register provides pension authorities with a reliable source for verifying a pensioner’s identity and life status. It can also reduce the need for families to repeatedly report the same information to different government departments. If a pensioner’s death is reported through NADRA’s death notification system or recorded in the Civil Registration Management System, the relevant pension controller can receive a digital notification. NADRA has also introduced a verification service for authorized banks, allowing them to directly check a pensioner’s Proof of Life status through the National Pensioners Register. The new system is expected to make pension verification easier while reducing paperwork, repeated physical visits and inconvenience for elderly pensioners.

Trump criticizes oil companies over high profits a…

US President Donald Trump has criticized major oil companies over their growing profits, saying that energy firms are earning excessive amounts of money amid rising fuel prices. His remarks come as global oil markets face uncertainty due to geopolitical tensions and disruptions affecting energy supplies. Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said he supports free markets but expressed dissatisfaction with what he described as unusually high earnings by oil companies. He stated that while businesses have the right to operate freely, current market conditions have allowed some energy companies to generate profits beyond what he considers reasonable. The increase in crude oil prices has significantly boosted the revenues of several major energy companies worldwide. Market uncertainty linked to tensions between the United States and Iran has contributed to higher oil prices, creating favorable conditions for large oil producers and companies. Saudi Arabia’s state-owned oil giant Saudi Aramco reported a significant increase in quarterly profit, announcing earnings of $33.4 billion, compared with $25.2 billion during the same period last year. This represents a substantial rise in profits. US-based energy companies have also recorded strong financial results. ExxonMobil reported quarterly earnings of $14.5 billion, more than double compared with the previous year. Meanwhile, Chevron posted a profit of $12.1 billion, marking a significant increase from the same period previously. British energy company Shell also reported nearly $10 billion in quarterly profits, making it one of the company’s strongest financial performances in recent years. While energy companies benefit from higher crude oil prices, consumers in the United States have faced increased fuel costs. Average petrol prices have risen significantly since the beginning of the conflict-related market disruptions, adding further pressure on households already dealing with inflation. Fuel prices have become a major political issue ahead of the upcoming midterm elections. Lowering petrol costs has emerged as a key priority for the Trump administration, as high energy prices often influence public opinion and economic sentiment. A major factor behind the rise in oil prices has been disruption in key shipping routes, including the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy corridors. Reduced oil transportation through the region has affected global supply and contributed to market volatility. Although diplomatic efforts have reportedly aimed at reducing tensions and improving shipping access, uncertainty remains in global energy markets. Security concerns in the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb Strait have also affected oil transportation routes. Energy analysts believe that major oil companies may continue benefiting from elevated prices in the short term. However, they suggest that increased global supply or improved conditions in strategic waterways could eventually push crude oil prices lower. The ongoing debate highlights the challenge faced by governments worldwide: balancing energy company profits, market stability, and the need to provide affordable fuel for consumers.

South Korean energy firm seeks PM Shehbaz’s …

A South Korean state-owned energy company has appealed directly to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, claiming that prolonged regulatory delays have placed its planned $1 billion investment in Pakistan’s hydropower sector at serious risk. In a letter addressed to the prime minister, Korea South-East Power Co. Ltd. (KOEN) said it had spent nearly a decade developing two run-of-the-river hydropower projects on the Swat River in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa but remains unable to move forward because of unresolved regulatory approvals. The company, a subsidiary of Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO), is developing the 229-megawatt Asrit Kedam and 238-megawatt Kalam Asrit hydropower projects. Together, the projects represent an investment of approximately $1 billion, with the company already investing around $25 million in feasibility studies, surveys, and other preparatory work. According to KOEN, the projects have met all major government requirements since development began in 2016. The company signed a memorandum of understanding with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, obtained letters of intent from the Pakhtunkhwa Energy Development Organization (PEDO), completed feasibility studies, secured a power generation licence from the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra), and maintained all required financial guarantees. Despite fulfilling these requirements, KOEN said the tariff determination for the projects has remained pending for nearly three years. The company noted that Nepra conducted a public hearing on its tariff petition in July 2023, but a final decision has yet to be issued. The company said it repeatedly approached Nepra and later appealed to the Nepra Appellate Tribunal, which directed the regulator to decide the tariff matter. However, KOEN claims that the tribunal’s order has still not been implemented. Adding to its concerns, the company said both hydropower projects have been excluded from the draft Indicative Generation Capacity Expansion Plan (IGCEP) 2025–35. KOEN warned that if the revised plan is approved without the projects, its proposed investment could remain stalled indefinitely. In its appeal, the company urged the prime minister to intervene and ensure a timely tariff determination while allowing the projects to continue under Pakistan’s Power Generation Policy 2015, the framework under which the investment was originally made. KOEN also stated that it understands Pakistan’s current surplus electricity generation and is willing to align the commercial operation of the projects with the country’s future energy requirements rather than adding unnecessary capacity. The issue comes as Pakistan and South Korea continue discussions aimed at strengthening bilateral trade and investment ties through a proposed Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). Analysts say resolving regulatory bottlenecks will be crucial for maintaining investor confidence and attracting future foreign direct investment into Pakistan’s energy sector.

Three prisoners seek private hospital treatment in…

Three prisoners have approached the Islamabad High Court seeking relief similar to that granted to the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, regarding treatment at a private hospital. The petitions were filed before the Islamabad High Court, with the applicants requesting permission to be transferred from prison to a private medical facility for treatment. The prisoners have specifically asked the court to allow them to receive medical care at either Shifa International Hospital or Quaid-e-Azam International Hospital. The development comes amid continued legal discussions over the medical treatment of prisoners and the circumstances under which an inmate may be allowed to receive treatment outside a prison hospital or government medical facility. During the proceedings, the Islamabad High Court sought a response from the relevant prison authorities by August 27. The court has directed the jail administration to explain its position regarding the requests made by the three prisoners. The court also ordered the superintendent of Adiala Jail to submit the medical reports of the petitioners. These reports are expected to help the court assess the prisoners’ medical conditions and determine whether their requests for treatment at private hospitals have sufficient grounds. Justice Muhammad Asif issued a two-page written order in connection with the petitions. In the order, the court directed the relevant parties to submit para-wise comments before the next hearing. The applicants have argued that they require medical treatment that may not be adequately available within the prison system. Their petitions seek permission to be transferred to either Shifa International Hospital or Quaid-e-Azam Hospital so that they can receive treatment from specialists and access facilities available at private medical institutions. The court has not yet issued a final decision on whether the prisoners will be allowed to move to a private hospital. Instead, it has sought medical documentation and responses from the prison authorities before considering the matter further. The medical reports from Adiala Jail will be particularly important in determining the nature and seriousness of the applicants’ health conditions. The court is expected to examine whether their medical needs justify treatment at a private hospital and whether such a transfer is appropriate under the applicable legal and prison regulations. The petitions also highlight broader questions concerning prisoners’ access to healthcare and the circumstances in which courts can intervene to ensure that inmates receive appropriate medical attention. The applicants’ request for relief similar to that provided to Imran Khan has placed the issue before the Islamabad High Court for judicial consideration. Their lawyers are seeking comparable treatment arrangements based on the medical needs of the petitioners. Under the court’s latest directions, the prison authorities are required to respond by August 27. The superintendent of Adiala Jail must also provide the petitioners’ medical reports, while all concerned parties have been asked to submit their detailed para-wise comments before the next hearing. Following the submission of these documents, the court will have an opportunity to review the medical evidence and the authorities’ position before deciding the applications. For now, the three prisoners remain in custody, and no final order allowing their transfer to a private hospital has been issued. The next hearing is expected to provide greater clarity on whether the applicants will be permitted to receive treatment at Shifa International Hospital or Quaid-e-Azam Hospital. The case could also become significant for future requests by prisoners seeking specialised medical treatment outside jail facilities, particularly where serious health concerns are raised and comparable relief has previously been granted in individual cases.
