BIRMINGHAM: A rare celestial spectacle added an extraordinary twist to The Hundred 2026 as a partial solar eclipse darkened the sky during the clash between Birmingham Phoenix and MI London at Edgbaston Stadium on Wednesday.

The match began at 6:30pm local time, shortly after the eclipse had started at around 6:15pm. The phenomenon reached its peak at 7:11pm, when approximately 91.76 percent of the Sun was obscured, before ending at 8:05pm.

As daylight faded dramatically, Edgbaston’s floodlights were switched on to maintain visibility, allowing the match to continue without interruption. Stadium screens and the announcer repeatedly warned spectators not to look directly at the Sun because of the risk of serious eye damage.

The unusual conditions created a striking atmosphere for spectators, with the normally bright evening sky turning noticeably darker as the eclipse progressed.

On the field, MI London held their nerve to post 157 runs. Birmingham Phoenix responded with 155, falling just two runs short and handing MI London a narrow victory.

The combination of high-stakes cricket and a dramatic solar eclipse made the Edgbaston encounter one of the most unusual sporting moments of The Hundred 2026.

At the same time, he said, people across the country were facing prolonged power outages while additional charges were being collected from consumers. Hafiz Naeem accused the ruling class of failing to deliver meaningful relief because of what he described as corruption and poor governance. He questioned the reported purchase of an aircraft worth around Rs11 billion for the Punjab chief minister. He also criticised government officials for defending the expenditure, saying public funds should not be used for expensive official vehicles and other privileges. The Jamaat-e-Islami emir urged authorities to reduce unnecessary government spending and focus resources on providing relief to ordinary citizens.

These models are increasingly being put through real world testing during East Asia’s intense typhoon season, a period when even modest improvements in tracking a storm’s path can help authorities plan flood responses, coordinate evacuations and manage disruptions to transportation networks. Fengwu in particular has shown strong results in predicting storm trajectories, with researchers noting that AI based systems can produce forecasts far faster than conventional models while matching or, in some cases, surpassing them on certain accuracy measures. The rapid progress in AI driven weather forecasting has sparked growing competition among technology firms, research institutions and national meteorological agencies worldwide, with China establishing itself as one of the sector’s most active players. Even so, meteorologists caution that AI tools currently serve as a complement to physics based forecasting rather than a full replacement. These systems still struggle to accurately capture sudden shifts in storm intensity, and they remain largely untested when it comes to long term climate modeling. As a result, traditional forecasting methods are expected to remain a core part of weather prediction for the foreseeable future, even as AI tools continue to mature and take on a larger role alongside them. The push toward AI assisted forecasting fits into a broader global trend, as governments and research institutions increasingly explore machine learning as a tool for anticipating the growing frequency and intensity of extreme weather linked to a changing climate.

    Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: A terrorist attack on a joint police checkpost in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Tank district has resulted in the martyrdom of 15 people, including 14 security personnel, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The military’s media wing said the attack took place early Friday and was carried out by militants identified as Fitna-al-Khawarij, a term used by authorities for members of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). ISPR said the attackers attempted to breach the checkpost’s perimeter, but their efforts were swiftly stopped by security forces. The personnel deployed at the post responded with courage and professionalism, engaging the attackers and killing 15 militants. According to the statement, after the failed attempt to enter the checkpost, the attackers rammed an explosive-laden vehicle into the perimeter wall. The powerful blast caused severe damage to the infrastructure and resulted in the martyrdom of 15 individuals, including 12 soldiers, two police officers, and a government official from the former forest department. A sanitisation operation is currently underway in the area to locate and eliminate any remaining terrorists. ISPR said security forces and law enforcement agencies will continue counterterrorism operations under the Azm-e-Istehkam strategy to eliminate terrorism from the country. The military’s media wing paid tribute to the sacrifices of security personnel, stating that their sacrifices strengthen Pakistan’s resolve to protect the nation. The attack comes amid increased militant activity in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Security forces have recently conducted operations in Bannu and surrounding areas, where several militants were killed during intelligence-based operations. Authorities say efforts are continuing to dismantle terrorist networks and prevent further attacks against security personnel and civilians.

He praised the atmosphere created by fans and highlighted football’s ability to bring people together across generations.
