Gal Gadot says motherhood turned her into a ‘lioness’

Gal Gadot is opening up about how motherhood has deeply shaped her latest on-screen role. The actress admitted becoming a mother gave her direct access to emotions she couldn’t have understood otherwise.

The “Snow White” star, who is a mother of four, plays a woman whose son gets kidnapped in her upcoming film “The Runner.” She reflected on the emotional weight of the role in a new interview with Modern Luxury magazine.

Gadot explained that becoming a mother essentially turns a woman into a protector, almost like a lioness. She said nothing matters more than the safety of one’s children, regardless of background or beliefs.

According to her, that protective instinct is something virtually every parent shares. She described the fear of being unable to protect your child as one of the deepest fears any mother carries.

Gadot said that exact fear defines her character Maia’s journey throughout the film. She explained that Maia is not portrayed as a superhero with all the answers.

Instead, she said, Maia makes mistakes, doubts herself and often feels scared. Despite that, Gadot noted, her character keeps pushing forward regardless of the fear she’s carrying.

She said that quality is what she personally finds most inspiring about the role. According to Gadot, real courage is not about being fearless, but about continuing forward even while afraid.

The “Wonder Woman” star also spoke more broadly about how motherhood has shaped her as a performer. She described it as the deepest emotional well she has access to as an actress.

Gadot explained that motherhood gives her emotional insight that simply can not be reached through logic or preparation alone. She said those feelings are something you can only truly access by living through them yourself.

Her comments offer a personal look into how her real-life experiences as a mother are influencing her more emotionally driven roles. “The Runner” is scheduled to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on September 2, giving audiences their first look at Gadot’s latest performance.

Dar urges SCO action against Afghan terrorism

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has called on member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) to strengthen regional cooperation against terrorism, saying lasting peace and economic development cannot be achieved unless militant groups operating from Afghan territory are effectively eliminated. Addressing the SCO Council of Foreign Ministers’ meeting, Dar said Pakistan remains committed to regional peace and wants to see Afghanistan emerge as a peaceful, stable, regionally connected and economically prosperous country. He said a secure Afghanistan would benefit not only Pakistan but all SCO member states and the wider region. The foreign minister described terrorism originating from Afghan territory as one of the most serious security challenges facing Pakistan. He said militant organisations continue to use Afghan soil for recruitment, training and planning attacks, creating persistent threats to regional stability. Dar said Pakistan has suffered heavily from terrorism in recent years. According to him, more than 560 Pakistanis have lost their lives in over 2,000 terrorist incidents since the beginning of this year. He added that investigations into several attacks had also identified the involvement of Afghan nationals. He urged the SCO to play a more active role in addressing the security situation and called on the Afghan authorities to honour their international commitments against terrorism. He stressed that no country’s territory should be allowed to serve as a base for militant activities targeting neighbouring states. Speaking about the SCO, Dar said the organisation has developed into one of the region’s most important platforms for cooperation over the past 25 years. He noted that it now promotes collaboration not only in security but also in trade, economic development, connectivity, culture and regional stability. Looking ahead, Dar said the organisation should place greater emphasis on digital development, technological cooperation, innovation and energy security to meet future regional challenges and promote sustainable economic growth among member states. Turning to the Middle East, Dar reiterated Pakistan’s position that dialogue, diplomacy and mutual respect remain the only effective means of resolving international disputes. He said peaceful negotiations are essential for achieving lasting regional peace and preventing further conflict. He also highlighted Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts in facilitating dialogue between the United States and Iran. Dar said Pakistan played an important role in encouraging direct engagement between the two countries, leading to the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding earlier this year. He described the agreement as a significant diplomatic achievement and encouraged the international community to build on the progress made through continued negotiations. On the sidelines of the SCO meeting, Dar held separate meetings with Kyrgyz President Sadyr Japarov and Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. The discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations, enhancing regional cooperation and expanding collaboration through multilateral organisations. During his meeting with Wang Yi, both leaders reviewed Pakistan-China relations and exchanged views on regional developments. The Chinese foreign minister appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to promote regional peace and extended best wishes for Pakistan’s upcoming chairmanship of the SCO for 2026-27.

President Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and the chiefs of the armed services attended the ceremony. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, the chairman of the Senate, federal ministers and other senior government officials were also present. The ceremony was held to recognise General Aamer Raza’s services and contributions in his capacity as Commander National Strategic Command. General Raza has previously received two major military honours, the Hilal-i-Imtiaz (Military) and the Sitara-i-Basalat. Before his latest appointment, he was serving as Chief of General Staff. The position is considered one of the Pakistan Army’s key operational assignments. During his tenure, he was involved in implementing organisational changes following the 27th Constitutional Amendment. He also oversaw restructuring within the military after last year’s conflict with India. The changes included the creation of the Army Rocket Force Command, as part of efforts to strengthen the army’s organisational and operational capabilities. General Raza began his military career as a cavalry officer. He trained at the Officers Training School and was commissioned into the 6th Lancers in 1988. Over the course of his career, he held several important command positions. These included command of an armoured regiment and an armoured brigade. His senior field appointments included command of Lahore-based IV Corps, one of the Pakistan Army’s major corps formations. General Raza has also held a number of important institutional and staff positions. He headed Heavy Industries Taxila, a major defence production organisation. He also served as Director General of Weapons and Equipment. In another senior assignment, he worked as Chief of Staff at II Corps. His professional background has largely focused on conventional military operations, command responsibilities and force development. Unlike some senior officers associated with Pakistan’s strategic institutions, General Raza has not served in the Strategic Plans Division or the Army Strategic Forces Command. He has also not held an appointment directly linked to the country’s strategic missile programme.

Princess Eugenie reveals daughter’s name honouring Queen Elizabeth II

Princess Eugenie has revealed the name of her newborn daughter, paying tribute to members of her family and highlighting her connection to both British and Portuguese heritage. The royal announced the name on Monday, two weeks after welcoming her third child. Sharing a photograph of her newborn daughter on social media, Eugenie said her family had spent the past two weeks enjoying a special and peaceful period together. The princess revealed that her daughter has been named Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank. Eugenie said the name was chosen in honour of three people whom she and her family love and admire, including her great-grandmother, the late Queen Elizabeth II. She said the family continues to hold her great-grandmother close to their hearts. The choice of Elizabeth as one of her daughter’s names is therefore seen as a personal tribute to the late monarch. Eugenie also explained that her daughter’s name reflects connections to English and Portuguese history. She said both places hold special importance for the family and are considered part of their lives. The arrival of the baby marks another major milestone for Eugenie and her husband, Jack Brooksbank. The couple already have two sons. Their eldest son, August, was born in February 2021. Their second son, Ernest, was born in June 2023. Eugenie said her two sons have already embraced their new role as older brothers. She described August and Ernest as the “best big brothers” to their newborn sister. The announcement gives the public its first details about the latest addition to Eugenie’s family after the birth was announced earlier this month. The choice of Adelaide Elizabeth Annina brings together several family and historical references. The inclusion of Elizabeth is particularly significant because of Eugenie’s close relationship with her late great-grandmother. Queen Elizabeth II died in September 2022 after a reign of more than 70 years. She was a central figure in the lives of several generations of the British royal family. Eugenie has frequently spoken warmly about her family and the importance of maintaining close relationships with relatives. Her latest announcement continues that tradition while introducing a new generation of the family. With the arrival of Adelaide, Eugenie and Brooksbank are now parents to three children. Their eldest two sons are expected to play an important role in their younger sister’s early years. The announcement has also attracted attention because of the unusual combination of names and the historical links highlighted by Eugenie. For the family, however, the occasion remains primarily a personal celebration. Eugenie said the past two weeks had been filled with love and family time as they welcomed their daughter.

Iran warns Ukraine of response over alleged Caspian Sea attack

Iranian officials have warned Ukraine that Tehran will not ignore attacks against its interests. The warning came after Iran accused Ukraine of allegedly targeting an Iranian commercial vessel in the Caspian Sea. Ebrahim Azizi, chairman of the Iranian Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, said any action against Iran would carry consequences. He said the United States and Israel were already aware of Iran’s position. Azizi also warned that Ukraine could soon realise that Iran does not leave hostile actions against it unanswered. He said the list of countries making what he described as wrong calculations about Iran’s response was growing. The remarks followed an alleged attack on an Iranian commercial ship in the Caspian Sea. Iranian authorities said one crew member was killed and another was injured in the incident. Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned the reported attack. It also summoned Ukraine’s chargé d’affaires to formally lodge a protest. The incident has raised concerns about the possibility of the wider Middle East conflict creating new tensions involving Ukraine and Iran. The Caspian Sea has now emerged as another area of concern amid the escalating regional disputes. Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy claimed that a Russian vessel allegedly carrying weapons to Iran had been targeted in the Caspian Sea. Kyiv has previously accused Iran of supporting Russia in its war against Ukraine. Iran, however, has strongly criticised what it describes as attacks on its territory and interests. Tehran has repeatedly warned that hostile actions could trigger retaliation. Azizi’s latest comments suggest that tensions between Iran and Ukraine could increase following the reported maritime incident. His warning also comes at a time when Iran is already facing heightened military and diplomatic pressure
