Islamic World can unite like NATO, says Hafiz Tahi…

Chairman of the Pakistan Ulema Council, Hafiz Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi, has said that the Muslim world has the potential to unite and cooperate in a manner similar to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

Speaking at a press conference in Lahore, Hafiz Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi emphasized the importance of unity and collective efforts among Muslim countries. He said that the Islamic world could work together more effectively if countries focused on common interests and strengthened cooperation among themselves.

Ashrafi said that religious scholars have an important role to play in safeguarding Pakistan and promoting peace, stability and unity within society. According to him, the role of the ulema is particularly important at a time when the country faces various social, political and security challenges.

He stressed that religious scholars should contribute to strengthening harmony among people and discouraging divisions based on sectarian, political or social differences. He said that unity and consensus were essential for the stability and progress of Pakistan.

The Pakistan Ulema Council chairman also spoke about the registration of religious seminaries across the country. He said that around 22,000 seminaries had already completed their registration. He described the development as an important step toward bringing religious institutions into a more organized framework.

Ashrafi maintained that cooperation between the government, religious scholars and religious institutions could help address several challenges facing the country. He said that seminaries and their scholars could play a constructive role in promoting education, social responsibility and national cohesion.

Referring to the wider Muslim world, Ashrafi suggested that Islamic countries could establish stronger mechanisms for collective cooperation. He pointed to NATO as an example of countries working together for shared security and strategic interests. In his view, Muslim-majority countries also have the potential to develop stronger cooperation if they demonstrate unity and mutual understanding.

He said that the Muslim world possesses significant human, economic and strategic resources, but greater coordination is needed to make these strengths more effective. Cooperation among Muslim countries, he added, could help them address common challenges and protect their collective interests.

Ashrafi further emphasized that Pakistan’s stability depends not only on government institutions but also on the positive contribution of religious scholars and other segments of society. He called on the ulema to continue playing their role in promoting peace, tolerance and national unity.

He reiterated that the Pakistan Ulema Council believes in unity and consensus rather than division. According to him, differences of opinion can exist, but they should not become a source of conflict or weaken the country.

The remarks come amid continuing discussions about the role of religious institutions and scholars in Pakistan’s social and national affairs. The registration of seminaries has remained an important issue, particularly in relation to regulation, documentation and the integration of religious education with broader national objectives.

Ashrafi’s comments also highlight the importance of cooperation among Muslim countries at a time when the Islamic world faces a range of political, economic and security challenges. He argued that greater unity could provide Muslim countries with a stronger collective voice in international affairs.

Concluding his remarks, Hafiz Tahir Mahmood Ashrafi reaffirmed his belief in unity, cooperation and consensus. He said that religious scholars, educational institutions and ordinary citizens all have a role to play in strengthening Pakistan and promoting harmony across society.

Benjamin Netanyahu sparks diplomatic backlash after labelling UK an “Islamic republic”

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has drawn widespread criticism following a radio interview in which he referred to the United Kingdom as the “Islamic republic of Britain” and suggested it could become the first Islamic republic with nuclear capabilities. The remarks, delivered during a broadcast on Israel’s Army Radio, have drawn condemnation for echoing far-right Islamophobic rhetoric. During the exchange, Netanyahu contrasted media coverage of the 1967 Arab-Israeli war with modern British politics, questioning whether contemporary UK figures would offer similar support. Pressed by the interviewer on whether such dynamics applied to Europe as a whole, Netanyahu doubled down, repeating the assertion regarding Britain’s nuclear status. His comments notably ignored the fact that Pakistan, officially an Islamic republic, has possessed a nuclear arsenal since the late 1990s. The incident has heightened existing diplomatic tensions between London and Jerusalem. The British Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office described the statement as completely unacceptable and confirmed the matter had been raised directly with the Israeli government. Domestically, Israeli opposition figures criticized Netanyahu for alienating a strategic international partner amid mounting diplomatic isolation.

Why did Trump share Muhammad Ali’s iconic fi…

US President Donald Trump has ignited widespread debate on social media after sharing footage of Muhammad Ali’s legendary “Rumble in the Jungle” boxing match against George Foreman, prompting users to speculate about the message behind the post. The iconic 1974 heavyweight title fight is regarded as one of the greatest contests in boxing history. Trump’s decision to post the famous bout quickly attracted attention, with many users questioning whether it carried a political message related to ongoing tensions with Iran or was aimed at domestic American politics. The White House has not issued any statement explaining the context of Trump’s post, leaving room for widespread speculation online. The “Rumble in the Jungle,” held in Kinshasa, then Zaire (now the Democratic Republic of the Congo), remains one of the most memorable moments in sporting history. During the fight, George Foreman appeared dominant in the early rounds, repeatedly landing powerful punches while Ali relied on his now-famous “rope-a-dope” strategy. Instead of engaging aggressively, Ali absorbed Foreman’s attacks while leaning against the ropes, conserving energy and allowing his opponent to tire himself out. By the eighth round, Foreman had slowed significantly, giving Ali the opportunity to launch a stunning counterattack that ended with a dramatic knockout victory. Trump’s decision to revisit the historic fight has divided social media users. Some interpreted the post as a symbolic message about patience, strategy and turning the tide against a stronger opponent. Others argued it may have been intended to comment on current geopolitical developments, while another group believed it was linked to US political dynamics ahead of upcoming policy battles. Despite the growing online discussion, Trump has not clarified the purpose of sharing the video. As speculation continues, the post has once again brought Muhammad Ali’s legendary triumph back into the global spotlight, reminding sports fans why the “Rumble in the Jungle” remains one of the most iconic victories in boxing history.

Jennifer Aniston’s changing priorities spark con…

Jennifer Aniston is reportedly entering a new chapter in her personal life, but not everyone in her inner circle is convinced it is the right move. According to recent reports, the Friends star has been shifting her priorities away from work and placing a greater focus on her personal relationships, a decision that has reportedly prompted concern among some of those closest to her. While Aniston has not publicly addressed the claims, insiders suggest the actress is embracing a slower pace after years of balancing an intense Hollywood career.  A source claimed that Aniston’s priorities have “completely shifted,” with more of her time now dedicated to her relationship with boyfriend Jim Curtis. The report suggests that some friends have advised the actress to “pump the brakes,” expressing concern that she may be making significant life changes too quickly. However, those close to Aniston also acknowledge that she appears genuinely happy and is making decisions she believes are best for her future.  The reported shift comes after Aniston has openly spoken about the importance of achieving a healthier work-life balance. In previous interviews with People, the Emmy-winning actress admitted that she has long considered herself “a bit of a workaholic” and recognized the need to make time for herself after several demanding years. She explained that she has become more intentional about scheduling breaks and protecting her personal time to avoid burnout.  Over the past few years, Aniston has remained one of Hollywood’s busiest stars. In addition to starring in and executive producing Apple TV+’s The Morning Show, she has continued expanding her successful haircare brand, LolaVie, while also pursuing new film and television projects. Her packed schedule has left little room for downtime, making her recent focus on personal happiness understandable.  Despite speculation that her career could take a back seat, there is no indication that Aniston plans to retire from acting. Instead, reports suggest she is simply becoming more selective about the projects she chooses, allowing herself greater flexibility to enjoy life outside of work. Friends and colleagues may have differing opinions about her changing priorities, but Aniston has consistently emphasized that maintaining balance is essential to both her personal well-being and professional success.  Throughout her decades-long career, Aniston has built a reputation as one of Hollywood’s most respected and reliable performers. From her iconic role as Rachel Green on Friends to her award-winning performance in The Morning Show, she has demonstrated remarkable consistency and longevity. That success gives her the freedom to make choices based on fulfillment rather than constant professional ambition. Whether the reported concerns from her inner circle are justified remains unclear, as they are based on anonymous sources rather than public statements from the actress herself. What is evident, however, is that Jennifer Aniston has become increasingly vocal about protecting her peace, valuing meaningful relationships, and creating a healthier balance between work and life. If those priorities continue to shape her future, they may ultimately strengthen both her personal happiness and her enduring career.  Jennifer Aniston is reportedly entering a new chapter in her personal life, but not everyone in her inner circle is convinced it is the right move. Riyadh sofa factory fire kills 16 Bangladeshi work…

RIYADH: At least 16 Bangladeshi migrant workers have died after a fire swept through a sofa manufacturing factory in Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh, in a tragedy that has prompted urgent efforts to bring the victims’ remains home. The fire broke out on Sunday at a furniture manufacturing facility in the industrial area of Riyadh’s Al Shifa district, according to Bangladesh’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Bangladesh’s embassy in Riyadh is coordinating with Saudi authorities over the incident and arrangements for the repatriation of the victims’ bodies. Officials are also working to identify the deceased and complete the necessary formalities. Bangladesh’s Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury expressed deep sorrow over the deaths and directed officials to speed up the process of returning the bodies to Bangladesh. He also called for assistance and compensation to be provided to the bereaved families, many of whom depend on income earned by relatives working abroad. Saudi Arabia’s Civil Defence confirmed that firefighters had responded to a blaze at an unlicensed furniture-making facility in the capital, although its initial statement did not provide details about the fatalities. The tragedy has once again drawn attention to workplace safety for migrant labourers in the Gulf. Saudi Arabia is home to a large Bangladeshi expatriate community, with reports putting the number at around 3.5 million. For many of these workers, employment in Saudi Arabia provides a vital source of income for families back home. The deaths in Riyadh have therefore sent shockwaves beyond the immediate workplace, leaving families anxiously awaiting the return of their loved ones. Authorities are expected to investigate the cause of the fire and examine safety conditions at the factory. The focus will also be on determining whether violations contributed to the deadly blaze. For Bangladesh, the immediate priority remains bringing the victims home and ensuring their families receive the promised support.

Saudi-US talks focus on easing regional tensions, …

Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and US Central Command chief Admiral Brad Cooper have held talks on regional security and efforts to ease tensions, as the conflict involving Iran continues to threaten stability and global energy supplies. According to Saudi state media, the two officials discussed defence cooperation between Riyadh and Washington, developments across the region and diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions and strengthening security. The meeting came as concerns surrounding the Strait of Hormuz intensified. The strategic waterway remains a major route for global oil and liquefied natural gas shipments, and disruptions caused by the conflict have raised fears of further pressure on international energy markets. Saudi Arabia also announced the launch of a multinational defensive maritime alliance, with 13 countries joining the initiative. Representatives from 39 countries attended a planning meeting held at the Western Fleet Command in Jeddah, which Saudi authorities described as an important step towards putting the alliance into operation. Meanwhile, Washington has signalled that its economic and military pressure on Tehran could intensify. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the United States was preparing measures against Iran on a scale not previously seen in efforts to economically isolate a country. Bessent said the strategy would combine tougher economic restrictions with continued pressure surrounding the Strait of Hormuz. He indicated that further announcements could come next week as Washington seeks to increase pressure on Tehran. US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth also said the US Navy could maintain a blockade of Iranian ports and shipping routes for an indefinite period, arguing that American forces had sufficient capacity to rotate vessels and sustain the operation. The standoff has already severely affected shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Traffic has fallen sharply compared with levels recorded before the conflict, when roughly 130 to 140 vessels passed through the waterway each day. The decline has raised concerns about disruptions to international energy supplies. Tensions escalated further after two vessels operated by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company were reportedly attacked while travelling through the strait. The UAE condemned the incident and blamed Iran for the attacks. Iran has rejected US claims over control of the waterway and has indicated that normal shipping will not resume until its demands are addressed. Tehran has called for the removal of economic sanctions and the release of frozen Iranian assets. The conflict is also putting increasing pressure on global oil markets. The International Energy Agency has revised its estimate for the decline in global oil supply, projecting a reduction of about 4.3 million barrels per day this year, equivalent to around 4% of global supply. Although oil prices fell by more than 2% on Thursday amid concerns over weaker demand and rising US crude inventories, renewed reports of attacks linked to Iran-backed forces have continued to fuel uncertainty in energy markets. The economic consequences are spreading beyond the region, with economists warning that a prolonged conflict could significantly weaken global growth and increase the risk of recession in some economies. US President Donald Trump has faced growing domestic pressure to bring the conflict to an end as higher fuel prices weigh on American consumers and threaten his political standing ahead of November’s midterm elections. While Trump has repeatedly warned that military action against Iran could escalate, he has so far avoided deploying ground troops or launching attacks against some of the region’s most sensitive strategic targets. More recently, he has indicated a greater reliance on economic pressure. Hegseth, meanwhile, said Washington’s priority remained preventing Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon and declined to comment on whether previous ceasefire decisions had been mistakes. With diplomatic efforts struggling and tensions around the Strait of Hormuz continuing, Saudi-US security coordination is emerging as a key factor in attempts to contain the wider regional crisis and protect vital international shipping routes.
