Writers are embracing flaws to fight AI prose

In an era where generative artificial intelligence can generate essays in seconds, the digital world is quietly witnessing a linguistic backlash. Readers are increasingly attuned to the invisible fingerprint of large language models. Perfectly balanced sentences, predictable three-item lists, flawless grammar and fondness for the em dash.

In response, a movement of novelists, journalists, essayists, and even corporate creators are opting an anti-AI literary counterculture. These writers are actively reintroducing human idiosyncrasies ranging from unorthodox metaphors to intentional typos to declare that a human is behind the keyboard.

The hallmark of standard AI-generated text is not necessarily bad grammar. In fact, it is often too clean. Text-generation algorithms default to statistically probable phrasing. It’s resulting in a distinctively smooth, neutral tone that rarely takes stylistic risks. Over the past few years, certain visual and structural patterns have become clear red flags for readers. Excessive dependence on em dashes. Relying on clinical or dramatic transitions like “In conclusion,” “Delve,” or “Navigating the landscape of…” Prose that seems lacking the natural rhythm, pauses, and unpredictable detours of spontaneous speech.

To break free from these algorithmic habits, authors are adopting techniques anchored in absolute negation. Novelist Laura Brooke Robson, author of Love Is an Algorithm, noted that she actively altered her sentence structures to avoid robotic cadence. Instead of relying on conventional metaphors, she intentionally sought out unexpected punctuation. For creators, avoiding the default traps of language models has surprisingly made their writing more original and lively. This counterculture goes beyond simply avoiding specific punctuation marks. Writers are cultivating a distinct aesthetic centered on authenticity, vulnerability, and friction.

After years of detached or objective styles, creators are leaning back into intimate first-person storytelling. Specific personal experiences, odd sensory details, and messy real-life observations serve as proof of lived experience. They prove to be something synthetic text generators cannot genuinely claim.

Minor human flaws, casual slang and even subtle typos are being viewed as authentic signatures. Some digital platforms and creators have even experimented with tools that preserve raw keystrokes to signal genuine human origin.

Instead of smoothing out every transition, writers are introducing erratic pacing, quirky similes, and inventive vocabulary. Authors create an experience that keeps the reader engaged. Deliberately reassuring them that the text wasn’t produced by an automated model.

Can Artificial Intelligence Just Copy It?

Skeptics of this trend point out an obvious paradox! If large language models are capable of processing complex prompts, they can just as easily be instructed to “write with typos,” “use casual grammar,” or “tell a quirky story in the first person.” From a purely technical perspective, intentional mistakes does not make prose impossible for a machine to imitate.

However, proponents of the movement emphasize that outsmarting algorithms was never the primary goal. Instead, the anti-AI counterculture is an artistic statement about human craft and intention. Writing is fundamentally an act of personal communication between two minds. When readers engage with text, they are seeking the author’s unique perspective, effort, and creative voice.

Ultimately, this movement signals how society values written communication. As machine-generated text becomes ubiquitous, hyper-polished prose is losing its premium status. What readers increasingly crave is not frictionless perfection, but the warmth and oddity of a human voice.

The day is observed on the recommendation of the United Nations to highlight the problems faced by young people, recognise their important role in economic and social development, and ensure their meaningful participation in decision-making. The theme of International Youth Day 2026 is “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.” The theme recognises that young people live in different national, local and social conditions, but their basic hopes are almost the same everywhere. They want a dignified life, equal opportunities, good employment, quality education and a safe and secure future. Pakistan has 64% of those who are under the age of 30, out of the 64% half of the numbers are in educational institutions and rest of them are out with some of the reasons. We are among the countries that spend the least on education, allocating around 2% of its total budget to the education . India spends around 4% while Sri Lanka and Bangladesh allocate around 2% or less. The United Nations recommends that 4% should be allocated to education. Pakistan has more than 190 universities including private and government over 100 sub-campuses, with nearly two million students studying in higher education. Providing four to five million jobs for these students in the coming years will be essential. University students face many problems in their daily routine on campus, These include rising fees, low quality of education, a lack of research opportunities, shortage of hostels and transport, inequality and harassment. At the school level, more than 15 million children are still out of school, these stats are same for years . Poor educational facilities, shortage of furniture, lack of clean drinking water, shortage of teachers and limited funding are among the main reasons. The state of higher education is also worrying. Only one Pakistani public university, Quaid-i-Azam University is among the world’s top 500 universities, while around 10 Indian universities are included in the same list. These figures raise serious questions about government priorities and the gap between official claims and the actual condition of education. Theme of International Youth Day directly connects with the problems faced by Pakistani youth. Quality education, decent employment, mental health and meaningful participation in decision-making have remained major issues for young people for decades. These problems have also increased frustration, intolerance and extremism among youth . When an educated person fails to achieve his or her goals because of a lack of merit and fair opportunities frustration naturally grows. Unfortunately, youth in Pakistan still lack a clear vision for their future and meaningful government support. The Prime Minister’s Youth Programme has mainly focused on initiatives such as laptops and scholarships, but there is a need for a much broader plan covering employment, career development, mental health and future opportunities for youth . Holding one or two youth conferences during the year cannot be enough to address these issues.Climate change has become a major challenge for the world, but Pakistan still needs a stronger plan to involve young people in dealing with it. There is also a lack of awareness and practical programmes through which young people can contribute to tackling climate change. Mental health is another serious issue. The United Nations continues to highlight the importance of addressing mental health problems among young people, but in Pakistan the issue has not received the attention it deserves. In many countries, educational institutions have dedicated departments and support systems for students’ mental health and wellbeing. Pakistan needs similar facilities. Reports of serious mental health problems and suicides among students should be treated as a national concern. Today’s students wants to see solutions to its problems through its own participation and leadership. Across Asia, the growing role of Generation Z in political and government affairs has been remarkable. India, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka have witnessed major youth movements in which youth have challenged governments and demanded political and social change. Youth are also important stakeholders in educational institutions. Around the world students participate in student unions and societies, which help them develop both academic and personal skills. Debates, dialogue, sports and other activities help students build confidence, leadership and communication skills. In countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and Canada, students are generally allowed to form unions and societies in educational institutions. These organisations are supported by universities and provide students with opportunities to develop leadership and democratic skills. Many people who later become successful in medicine, science, social sciences, sports, politics and other fields gain valuable experience through such activities during their student years. The well-known historian Dr Mubarak Ali wrote in his book Tareekh Ke Naye Zaviye that when ideological politics began among young people in the subcontinent, nationalism was one of its early forms. Students became divided between the political right and left. However, this ideological debate also encouraged students to read and study different ideas. They began to understand society and its structure through different political and social perspectives. This process helped young people develop stronger intellectual and political awareness. Democratic societies recognise the right of students to participate in political and democratic activities. In Pakistan, however, student unions have faced restrictions for almost three decades. They were banned mainly because of allegations of political violence and clashes on campuses. As a result, universities lost an important platform for political discussion, debate on social issues and dialogue on national affairs.The culture of student unions in the 1990s are very different from the environment today. In the age of artificial intelligence, social media and digital communication, educational institutions can develop a new and more responsible model of student representation. Pakistan needs to create an environment where youth can discuss their problems through dialogue and democratic participation. Students should be represented in educational decision-making bodies and given a meaningful role in consultation. Add a small amount of cream to the curry or other suitable dishes and mix well.  It can reduce the strong salty taste while also making the food smoother and richer. Try a dough ball A small ball of flour dough is another traditional home method. Make a small dough ball and place it in the curry.  Leave it for around 15 minutes and then take it out. This may help reduce the salty taste of the dish. Add water or milk For dishes that can handle extra liquid adding a little water can reduce the salty taste.  Milk or cream can also work well in some recipes. Use yogurt and fried onion Yogurt and fried onions can also help balance the taste especially in dishes such as meat curry karahi, or mixed vegetables. Grind some browned onions with yogurt and mix them into the dish. This can make the strong salty flavor less noticeable while adding extra taste. Add salt slowly The best way to avoid overly salty food is to add salt little by little while cooking. Taste the food before adding more.  This simple habit can help you control the amount of salt and keep your dishes flavorful. Using less salt overall is also better for general health. So instead of adding a large amount at once add small amounts gradually and adjust the taste as needed.

Taking a cool shower or bath is another effective way to lower body temperature. Placing a cold towel or an ice pack on the neck and wrists can also help cool the body quickly because blood vessels are close to the skin in these areas. Health experts also suggest keeping your home as cool as possible. Open windows early in the morning to let in fresh air then close them and draw curtains or blinds once the sun gets stronger. Use fans to push hot air outside and turn on kitchen and bathroom exhaust fans to remove heat and humidity. At night wear light cotton clothes and use cotton bedsheets because they allow better airflow and help keep you comfortable. If your home has a basement it may be a cooler place to sleep during heatwaves.  Closing the doors of unused rooms can also help keep cool air in the areas you use most.     Scientists at the University of Delaware in the United States are investigating whether sharks can be used to improve predictions of hurricane intensity and serve as ocean-observing systems for collecting marine data. Researchers at the University of Delaware are attaching sensors to sharks that measure ocean temperature, electrical conductivity and depth. Electrical conductivity is related to the amount of salt in the water. According to Aaron Carlisle, a professor at the university’s School of Marine Science and Policy and the lead researcher of the study, animal-mounted sensors have been successfully used in marine research for several years particularly in areas where scientific observations are limited. Researchers say sharks are suitable for this research because they are abundant, inhabit vast areas of the ocean and are relatively easier to access than many protected marine mammals. So far, shark tagging has mainly been used to study their movements and habitats. However, in this new research, scientists are selecting sharks that can collect useful data for hurricane forecasting and swim close enough to the ocean surface for their tags to transmit information via satellites. Preliminary analyses in the North Atlantic have identified shortfin mako sharks, blue sharks, smooth hammerhead sharks and juvenile great white sharks as suitable species for the research. According to Aaron Carlisle, scientists are paying particular attention to the heat in the upper layer of the ocean known as the “mixed layer.” This layer of water plays an important role in the intensity of hurricanes because a warmer mixed layer can contribute to the formation of stronger hurricanes. Caroline Wiernicki, a doctoral student at the University of Delaware said the shark-tagging process begins in early May, when several migratory shark species come closer to the coast after spending the winter in remote areas of the Atlantic Ocean. Researchers travel 50 to 65 kilometres offshore in a research vessel where they deploy baited lines and typically wait two to three hours for sharks to approach. A tag is attached to the shark’s dorsal fin. When the shark swims near the surface, the tag connects with a network of satellite receivers and transmits data. Carlisle said the tagging process is completed rapidly similar to a “pit crew” during a motor race and usually takes less than five minutes. Shark tagging is carried out under institutional animal-care oversight to minimize its impact on the animals. The tags are attached using materials that gradually dissolve and eventually detach on their own. Before each shark is released back into the ocean, its health is examined because stress or injury could affect its natural behaviour and consequently, the reliability of the data collected. Caroline Wiernicki said sharks are portrayed as extremely frightening animals in movies whereas in reality they are relatively calm creatures. According to the researchers, if the project proves successful, data collected from sharks could help improve forecasts of the intensity of hurricanes approaching the US East Coast. This information could provide more reliable forecasts to coastal communities from North Carolina to Massachusetts helping them prepare for storms and improve coastal protection. Aaron Carlisle said sharks are remarkable animals that are exceptionally well adapted to life in the ocean and there is much that humans can learn from them. If it is proven that sharks can also benefit humans, it would be a win-win situation for both.

Normal changes such as temporary tiredness less sleep or a small increase in heart rate may be seen as signs of illness. As a result some people may skip exercise delay important tasks or believe they are not fit enough even though they are healthy.
