Fans tuning in to Live with Kelly and Mark this week quickly noticed that Kelly Ripa was absent from her usual spot beside husband and co-host Mark Consuelos. Addressing viewers at the start of the show, Consuelos explained that Ripa is taking time off to recover from a painful gum graft surgery and is following strict medical advice as she heals. 

Opening Monday’s episode alongside guest co-host Kevin Jonas, Consuelos reassured fans that Ripa is doing well despite the discomfort. “Kelly sends her love,” he said before revealing that she had recently undergone the dental procedure. He added that doctors have instructed her not to talk during her recovery, making it impossible for her to return to the show until she has healed properly. 

According to Consuelos, Ripa’s dentist first recommended the surgery nearly five years ago. At the time, she decided to postpone it, joking that she did not think she would still be hosting the daytime talk show years later. Now, with the procedure finally behind her, she is focused on following every instruction to ensure a smooth recovery. 

Although Ripa is known for having an exceptionally high tolerance for pain, Consuelos admitted that this surgery has been especially challenging for her. He shared that she has been limited to soft foods and has even been warned not to inspect the surgical area while it heals. The television host also joked that staying quiet might be the hardest part for his famously talkative wife. 

With Ripa temporarily sidelined, Live with Kelly and Mark has welcomed a lineup of celebrity guest hosts. Kevin Jonas stepped in to co-host the first episodes of the week, while Mila Kunis, Pamela Adlon and Scott Foley are also scheduled to appear alongside Consuelos during Ripa’s absence. The rotating guest hosts will keep the show running until she is ready to return. 

A gum graft is a common dental procedure used to treat receding gums by attaching healthy gum tissue to areas where it has thinned. While the surgery helps protect teeth and improve long-term oral health, recovery can take one to two weeks and often requires patients to avoid talking, strenuous activity and certain foods. 

For now, Ripa is expected to remain off the air for about a week while she continues healing at home. Consuelos assured viewers that she appreciates all the well wishes and looks forward to returning once she has fully recovered. Until then, fans can expect her husband to keep them updated while steering the show with a series of special guest co-hosts.

      The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has introduced a comprehensive domestic cricket fitness policy for the 2026-27 season, making physical fitness a key requirement for players representing regional, departmental, district, and zonal teams across the country. The newly announced policy has been designed to improve players’ overall fitness standards and ensure they are better prepared for the physical demands of modern cricket. Covering athletes from junior age-group competitions to first-class domestic cricket, the framework aims to establish a consistent and measurable fitness system throughout Pakistan’s domestic structure. The fitness programme has been developed by PCB Director of Sports and Exercise Medicine Javed Mughal. It follows a structured two-tier model that has been designed to align with international cricket standards while remaining practical, reliable, and easy to implement across different levels of the domestic game. The testing procedures have been created to produce consistent and repeatable results, allowing coaches and trainers to accurately monitor players’ physical progress. Under the new system, Tier 1 will apply to players representing the country’s 20 regional teams, eight departmental first-class sides, and more than 25 Grade-II departmental teams. These players will be required to complete 11 separate fitness tests, providing a total of 17 scoring opportunities during the assessment process. Tier 2 has been introduced for players competing in senior district cricket, U19 district teams, and regional U17 and U15 squads. Participants in this category will undergo eight different fitness tests, offering a maximum of 12 scoring opportunities. The PCB has also established a clear scoring system to determine whether a player passes or fails the assessment. In Tier 1, players may receive up to seven red scores and still meet the required fitness standard. However, recording eight or more red scores will result in a failed assessment. Those who fail will be allowed one opportunity to retake the test. Similarly, Tier 2 players will fail the assessment if they receive six or more red scores. The board hopes that the grading system will encourage players to maintain high fitness standards while also identifying areas requiring improvement. Fitness monitoring will not end after the initial assessment. Players who successfully complete the testing process will undergo another round of fitness evaluations approximately six months later. The purpose of the follow-up assessment is to measure each player’s progress and ensure that fitness levels continue to improve throughout the season. According to the PCB, every player is expected to demonstrate measurable improvement compared to their initial baseline results. The board believes continuous assessment will promote long-term physical development rather than one-time preparation for testing. The policy also outlines the procedure for players who do not meet the required benchmarks. Instead of repeating only the failed components, any player who fails the assessment will be required to complete the entire fitness testing programme again. This approach is intended to ensure overall physical readiness rather than focusing on individual weaknesses. The responsibility for conducting the assessments will rest with PCB-approved strength and conditioning coaches. These coaches will supervise fitness testing at every level of domestic cricket and submit the results to the National Cricket Academy along with the PCB’s Medical and Sports Science Department for evaluation and record-keeping. With this initiative, the PCB aims to strengthen the fitness culture within domestic cricket, enhance player performance, and create a stronger pathway for athletes aspiring to represent Pakistan at the international level.

    Pakistan’s security forces killed 12 suspected militants during two intelligence-based operations carried out in separate districts of Balochistan as part of the ongoing counterterrorism campaign, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Thursday. According to the military’s media wing, the operations were conducted on August 5 and 6 in Washuk and Mastung districts under the third phase of Operation Rad-ul-Fitna, which targets militant groups allegedly backed by hostile foreign elements. The ISPR said the first operation was launched on August 5 after intelligence agencies detected the movement of six suspected militants in Washuk district. Security forces swiftly moved to the area and engaged the suspects in a targeted operation. Following an exchange of fire, all six militants were killed. A second intelligence-based operation was conducted on August 6 in Mastung district after security forces received information about the presence of armed militants. The ISPR said another six suspected militants were killed during an intense firefight. Security personnel also destroyed a militant hideout during the operation. The military stated that both operations were based on credible intelligence and were part of continuous efforts to eliminate militant networks operating in Balochistan. It added that security forces carried out the missions with precision, preventing the militants from escaping. According to the ISPR, the operations form part of Pakistan’s broader counterterrorism strategy being implemented under Azm-e-Istehkam, the national security initiative approved by the Federal Apex Committee under the National Action Plan. The military reaffirmed that Pakistan’s armed forces, together with law enforcement agencies, will continue intelligence-led operations across the country to eliminate terrorism and dismantle militant infrastructure.

He called for a thorough investigation into the incidents reported during the voting process and urged the Election Commission to take appropriate legal action against those found responsible. The Acting President stated that polling agents at various locations were allegedly prevented from entering polling stations, which he described as a serious violation of the electoral process. According to him, the presence of polling agents is essential to ensure transparency and maintain public confidence in elections. Chaudhry Latif Akbar further requested an inquiry into reports of firing incidents, alleged interference in the polling process, and claims that some voters were deprived of their right to cast their votes. He emphasized that all such allegations should be investigated impartially to determine the facts and ensure accountability. In one of his letters, the Acting President highlighted delays in the start of polling at Koomi Kot and Jhandgran areas. He stated that voting began late in these locations and requested that polling time be extended in the affected areas to compensate for the lost time and allow voters a fair opportunity to exercise their democratic right. He also referred to an alleged armed attack on Mumtaz Hussain Naqvi, calling for an immediate investigation into the incident. Chaudhry Latif Akbar demanded that those responsible for the attack be identified and legal proceedings be initiated against them. The Acting President stressed that all incidents reported during the election process must be examined through transparent investigations. He called upon the Election Commission to ensure that no individual or group involved in electoral violations escapes accountability. In his communication with the Election Commission, Chaudhry Latif Akbar reiterated the importance of maintaining a free, fair, and peaceful electoral environment. He stated that public trust in democratic institutions depends on ensuring that elections are conducted without intimidation, interference, or unlawful practices. The letters come amid political tensions surrounding the election process in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, where various political parties have raised concerns over alleged irregularities and security issues. Opposition parties have also questioned aspects of the polling arrangements, while authorities have maintained that necessary measures were taken to conduct peaceful elections. Chaudhry Latif Akbar’s demands reflect concerns about transparency and fairness in the electoral process. He emphasized that protecting voters’ rights and ensuring equal participation should remain the top priority of election authorities. He concluded by urging the Election Commission to conduct a comprehensive review of all reported incidents, publish the findings transparently, and take strict action against anyone found involved in misconduct. According to him, only a credible and impartial investigation can strengthen public confidence and ensure that the democratic process reflects the genuine will of the people.
