14 cities bid to host T20 World Cup 2028 matches

Fourteen cities across Australia and New Zealand have expressed interest in hosting matches during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028, highlighting strong enthusiasm for the tournament that will be jointly staged by the two neighboring nations.

Tournament organizers invited cities to submit bids for hosting rights, and a total of 14 cities responded with proposals to stage matches during the global event. However, only eight to ten cities are expected to be selected as official host venues, meaning several bidding cities will ultimately miss out.

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028 is scheduled to take place during October and November and will mark another major cricket event jointly hosted by Australia and New Zealand. Both countries have extensive experience organizing ICC tournaments and are expected to provide world-class venues and infrastructure for teams and fans.

According to reports, organizers will evaluate each bid based on the International Cricket Council’s hosting guidelines. A key factor in the selection process will be logistics, with officials aiming to create a tournament schedule that minimizes unnecessary travel while ensuring smooth operations throughout the competition.

The governing body is expected to prioritize a balanced distribution of venues that allows teams to move efficiently between matches without excessive travel. A more compact tournament structure is also expected to improve scheduling, simplify event management, and provide a better experience for supporters traveling across both countries.

Reducing the number of host cities is seen as an important part of the planning process. With Australia and New Zealand separated by the Tasman Sea and both countries covering vast geographical areas, organizers are seeking to strike the right balance between showcasing multiple regions and maintaining practical travel arrangements.

Officials believe that selecting fewer venues will help streamline tournament operations, reduce travel demands for participating teams, and make it easier for fans to follow their favorite sides throughout the competition.

The bidding process also reflects the continued popularity of international cricket in both nations. Many cities view hosting World Cup matches as an opportunity to attract visitors, boost local tourism, and generate significant economic activity through hotels, restaurants, transportation, and entertainment.

Meanwhile, Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) is expected to host the final of the 2028 T20 World Cup. The iconic stadium has a rich history of staging major international cricket events and is widely regarded as one of the sport’s most prestigious venues. If confirmed, the MCG would once again provide the stage for the tournament’s biggest match.

The final list of host cities is expected to be announced after organizers complete their evaluation of the bids and finalize venue arrangements in line with ICC requirements. Once confirmed, preparations will begin for upgrading facilities, coordinating logistics, and developing match schedules ahead of the tournament.

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2028 is expected to feature the world’s leading cricket nations and attract thousands of traveling fans, making it one of the biggest sporting events on the international cricket calendar. With significant interest from host cities and careful planning underway, Australia and New Zealand are preparing to deliver another memorable edition of the tournament.

Yami Gautam to lead Kahaani 3

Yami Gautam is reportedly set to headline Kahaani 3, taking over the lead role in the acclaimed thriller franchise previously fronted by Vidya Balan. The film, directed by Sujoy Ghosh, is currently in the pre-production stage and is expected to introduce a completely fresh story while retaining the signature mystery and suspense that made the franchise a favourite among audiences. According to reports, Kahaani 3 will not continue the storyline from the first two films. Instead, the makers are planning an entirely new narrative set within the same cinematic world. This approach is intended to preserve the franchise’s identity while giving audiences a fresh mystery to unravel. Sujoy Ghosh, who directed both Kahaani (2012) and Kahaani 2 (2016), is returning to helm the third instalment. An industry source quoted in multiple reports said, “Kahaani 3 is a new story altogether. The idea is to take the franchise forward while retaining the essence of the world that audiences have loved.” The source added that Yami Gautam has been chosen for the lead because her character has a powerful and emotionally layered arc that fits the film’s vision. The insider further revealed that the project is still in its early stages, with the creative team working on the script and production schedule before filming begins. “The film is still in the pre-production stage, and the team is working on the timelines for the shoot,” the source said. Speaking about Sujoy Ghosh’s return, the source explained that the filmmaker has a clear plan for the franchise’s future. “Sujoy has a very clear vision for the Kahaani world. He is working closely with the team to ensure that the third film feels fresh but still carries the soul of the franchise.” The source also noted that there is considerable excitement surrounding Yami Gautam’s casting, while the makers continue to finalise the shooting schedule. The Kahaani franchise has long been associated with Vidya Balan, whose performances as Vidya Bagchi and Durga Rani Singh earned widespread critical acclaim and helped establish the series as one of Bollywood’s finest mystery thrillers. Reports suggest that while Yami Gautam will now lead the franchise, the upcoming film is not intended to replace the earlier stories but rather expand the Kahaani universe with a new protagonist and standalone plot. Yami Gautam, who has earned praise in recent years for her performances in female-led films, is expected to bring a different dimension to the franchise. Industry observers believe the role could become another milestone in her career, especially given the strong legacy attached to the Kahaani brand. Although the makers have not officially announced the film’s cast or release date, reports about Yami Gautam leading Kahaani 3 have generated significant excitement among fans. Many have welcomed Sujoy Ghosh’s return and expressed curiosity about how the new chapter will honour the franchise’s legacy while introducing a fresh mystery for audiences.

9 cancer medicines declared fake and illegal after…

A major health alert has emerged in Karachi after the Sindh Drug Testing Laboratory declared nine medicines used for cancer treatment as substandard, fake, and unregistered. Authorities have started action against the responsible parties following the laboratory findings. Director Sindh Drug Testing Laboratory Syed Adnan Rizvi said that the investigation was launched after receiving laboratory reports, and relevant institutions have begun taking action based on the results. According to Rizvi, some of the cancer medicines tested did not contain the required active ingredients needed for treatment, while others did not have a valid registration number from the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP). He warned that the availability of counterfeit and low-quality cancer medicines poses a serious threat to patients because ineffective treatment can allow the disease to progress and reduce the chances of recovery. The official also raised concerns about prescription practices, stating that some oncologists mention the names of specific pharmacies on prescriptions, which may force patients to purchase medicines only from those outlets. He emphasized the need for transparency and strict monitoring throughout the medicine supply chain. Cancer medicines are highly sensitive and require accurate composition and quality standards because patients depend on them for life-saving treatment. Experts have repeatedly stressed that fake or substandard drugs can cause severe health consequences, especially for people undergoing critical therapies. The Sindh Drug Testing Laboratory findings have increased concerns about medicine regulation and quality control in the healthcare sector. Authorities are expected to investigate the source of the suspected medicines, identify those involved in their distribution, and take legal action where necessary. The incident highlights the importance of purchasing medicines only from authorized pharmacies and ensuring that drugs carry proper registration details and quality certifications. Health officials have urged patients and healthcare providers to remain cautious and report any suspicious medicines to relevant authorities. Drug safety remains a major challenge in many healthcare systems, and officials say stronger monitoring, improved enforcement, and public awareness are essential to prevent the circulation of counterfeit medicines. Further details about the investigation and action against those responsible are expected as authorities continue their review of the case.

Karan Johar reflects on friendships that changed his life forever

Filmmaker Karan Johar marked Friendship Day with an emotional message, reflecting on the friendships that shaped his life and helped him overcome childhood loneliness, self-doubt, and personal challenges. Sharing a heartfelt note on social media, Karan looked back on his early years as an only child, admitting that he often felt isolated while watching other children play together. He recalled spending much of his childhood in his own world and wondering why making friends seemed so difficult. The director revealed that, as a seven-year-old, he struggled to connect with others and frequently questioned why he did not have close companions. Those feelings of loneliness, he said, remained with him until one special friendship changed his outlook on life. Karan credited his childhood friend, Farzana Muncherjee, for helping him step out of his comfort zone and become more confident. He described her as someone who encouraged him to leave behind his fears and insecurities and embrace life with greater openness. Reflecting on her influence, he shared that she made him realize he had been overly dramatic and that all he really needed was to step outside his room and create a place for himself in the world. According to Karan, her friendship became a turning point in helping him develop self-confidence and build meaningful relationships. More than four decades later, Farzana continues to hold a special place in his life. Karan said their bond has remained strong over the years and that she is still an important part of his heart. The filmmaker also reminisced about his friendship with Apoorva Mehta, now the CEO of Dharma Productions. He recalled being shifted to a new classroom during his school days, where he knew no one and once again felt alone. That changed when Apoorva approached him and offered his friendship. Karan humorously remembered that his new friend had only one request — to bring vegetarian snacks from the following day. What began as a simple school friendship eventually grew into a lifelong personal and professional relationship. Looking back, Karan said these friendships taught him valuable lessons about self-acceptance. They helped him overcome his insecurities and understand that embracing his true self made it easier for others to accept him as well. He explained that learning to move beyond his personal complexes transformed the way he viewed himself and the people around him. Those experiences, he said, played a key role in shaping his confidence and outlook on life. Karan also opened up about a recent emotional chapter involving his mother, Hiroo Johar. He revealed that she had spent 15 days in the intensive care unit before returning home, where she is now recovering well. The difficult period reinforced the importance of genuine friendships, he said. During challenging moments, he realized that while success and wealth have their place, lasting relationships are life’s greatest investment. According to him, true friends provide unwavering support when it matters most. Concluding his message, Karan expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people who have stood by him throughout his life. He described his friends as his chosen family and said he feels fortunate to have such meaningful relationships. He also reflected on the popular idea that love is friendship, offering his own perspective by saying that, in his experience, friendship can be even more valuable than love. His message served as a touching reminder that authentic friendships can offer strength, comfort, and a lifelong sense of belonging.
