Daanish schools enrol only 40,000 in 15 years: Edu…

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has raised questions about the performance and accessibility of the Daanish School System.

He said education at Daanish schools was expensive. As a result, the system had enrolled only around 40,000 students in 15 years.

The minister questioned the effectiveness of earlier education initiatives in the province. He specifically referred to comprehensive and pilot schools established in Punjab.

He asked where those schools had gone and why they had failed to deliver the expected results.

Rana Sikandar Hayat said the Punjab government was working to reduce the gap between public and private education.

For this purpose, the government had moved towards a public-private partnership model. He said the approach could help improve the quality of education and increase access for children.

The provincial minister also highlighted the enrolment performance of the Nawaz Sharif School of Eminence programme.

He said these schools had recorded an average enrolment of around 112 per cent so far.

Rana Sikandar Hayat also spoke about the issue of inaccurate student records in government schools.

He claimed that authorities had removed around 1.5 million ghost students from government school records across Punjab.

The minister said the province still faced a major education challenge. Around 25 per cent of children in Punjab remain out of school, according to him.

He said the dropout problem becomes particularly serious when students reach the high-school level.

A significant number of children leave education after reaching secondary-level schools, he said. This affects the overall literacy and education indicators of the province.

The minister said the government was now focusing on bringing children who are outside the education system back into schools.

He said schools operating under outsourcing arrangements had been given a specific target. They would be required to enrol 5 per cent of children currently deprived of education.

The initiative is aimed at increasing school enrolment and reducing the number of children who remain outside the formal education system.

Rana Sikandar Hayat said improving access to education required both enrolment and retention. Bringing children into schools would not be enough if they later dropped out.

He stressed the need to strengthen the education system and ensure that children continue their studies through higher grades.

The minister’s remarks highlight the challenges facing Punjab’s education sector. Despite having a large network of schools, the province continues to deal with out-of-school children, inaccurate enrolment records and high dropout rates.

The government is now looking towards partnerships with the private sector and reforms in public schools to address these problems.

The minister said the ultimate objective was to provide more children with access to quality education and reduce the divide between public and private schooling.

A medical report submitted to the Supreme Court has revealed that former prime minister and PTI founder Imran Khan is experiencing severe anxiety symptoms. The report was submitted by the superintendent of Adiala Jail. It contains details about Imran Khan’s physical and mental health. The report was submitted after PTI Secretary General Salman Akram Raja approached the Supreme Court. His petition raised concerns about Imran Khan’s health and restrictions on meetings with him. According to the report, Imran Khan’s anxiety was recorded at “Level 3+”. The condition has been described as severe. A medical board examined Imran Khan on August 10, 2026. The board included specialists in eye diseases, cardiology and general medicine. The report states that Imran Khan is around 73 years old. His blood pressure was recorded at 140/80. His pulse was 54 beats per minute. His ECG was found to be normal. His chest was also clear. Doctors found his heart valves and chambers to be normal. The report says Imran Khan complained of heaviness in his head. He also reported feeling that his heartbeat was faster than usual. However, he did not report chest pain. He also did not complain of chest heaviness or shortness of breath. The medical board recommended medicines to control his blood pressure and anxiety. Doctors also recommended regular physical activity. The board suggested that Imran Khan should walk for one hour every day. It also recommended activities that could provide mental relaxation. The report recommends that he should be provided with magazines, newspapers, television and books. These activities could help reduce mental stress during his imprisonment. The medical board also recommended increasing the duration of meetings with Imran Khan’s family and wife. According to the report, greater family interaction could help control his anxiety and blood pressure. The recommendations come amid repeated demands from PTI leaders for greater access to the former prime minister. Jail authorities said Imran Khan receives regular medical attention. Medical officers reportedly check his food intake and conduct medical examinations three times a day. The report also states that several government doctors have examined him during his imprisonment. Records of these medical examinations have reportedly been maintained. The former prime minister has also received treatment from an eye specialist. According to the jail authorities, one of his eyes has now recovered to an almost normal condition. The report includes a summary of medical examinations conducted by 39 different specialists between November 4, 2023, and August 10, 2026. The jail authorities have asked the Supreme Court to dispose of the petition. They maintain that Imran Khan is receiving regular medical care inside the prison. The report also discusses the issue of meetings with Imran Khan. Jail authorities claimed that some meetings had been used to generate public sentiment against the judiciary, foreign policy and law enforcement institutions. According to the report, Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi meet every Tuesday under jail rules. A total of 84 meetings between them have reportedly taken place so far. The document also states that Imran Khan’s lawyer Salman Safdar met him on February 10 and April 4, 2026. The medical report comes amid renewed political pressure over Imran Khan’s health and access to his family and personal doctors. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi recently announced a protest programme if Imran Khan was not allowed access to his family and personal physicians. The issue of Imran Khan’s health has become a major point of political debate. PTI leaders have repeatedly demanded better medical facilities and greater access to his personal doctors. A psychiatrist cited in the report said that “Level 3+” anxiety indicates a severe state of anxiety and distress. The psychiatrist explained that prolonged isolation and limited social interaction can worsen anxiety. Such conditions may also contribute to hopelessness and depression. He said regular interaction with other people can help reduce anxiety. He also recommended walking and exercise as useful measures for managing symptoms of anxiety and panic. The three-member Supreme Court bench headed by Justice Shahid Waheed will hear the petition. Justice Naeem Afghan and Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim are also part of the bench. The court will examine the medical report and the concerns raised over Imran Khan’s health, medical treatment and access to family members and doctors.

Brazil recalls ambassador after Milei labels Lula a “thief” at campaign rally

Relations between Brazil and Argentina have taken another sharp turn after Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva was indirectly attacked by Argentine President Javier Milei during a political rally in Sao Paulo. Brazil responded by recalling its ambassador from Buenos Aires, calling Milei’s remarks an insult to the country’s leadership, institutions, and democracy. Milei traveled to Brazil over the weekend to support Flavio Bolsonaro, who officially launched his campaign for Brazil’s presidential election scheduled for October. Flavio is the son of former Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro and is representing the right wing Liberal Party after his father was barred from seeking office. During his speech, Milei did not mention Lula by name but referred to “the thief” and “the convict,” comments widely understood to be aimed at the Brazilian president. The remarks referenced Lula’s previous imprisonment on corruption charges before those convictions were later overturned, allowing him to return to politics and win the 2022 presidential election. Standing alongside Flavio Bolsonaro, Milei praised the candidate and said he believed he was the only person capable of defeating Lula in the upcoming election. The Argentine president has maintained close political ties with the Bolsonaro family and has openly supported their conservative agenda. Milei also criticized a senior Brazilian Supreme Court judge who oversaw legal proceedings involving Jair Bolsonaro. Without naming Justice Alexandre de Moraes directly, he used insulting language while referring to the judge. Earlier this month, Moraes rejected Milei’s request to visit the former Brazilian president, who is currently under house arrest in Brasilia. Jair Bolsonaro is serving a prison sentence of more than 27 years after being convicted of plotting a coup to remain in power following his defeat in the 2022 election. Because he is no longer eligible to run for public office, he has endorsed his son Flavio as the candidate for his party in this year’s presidential race. Brazilian officials reacted strongly to Milei’s comments. According to diplomatic sources, the statements were viewed as offensive not only to the country’s president but also to its judiciary, democratic institutions, and the Brazilian people. In response, Brazil recalled its ambassador from Argentina in a diplomatic protest, signaling growing frustration with Milei’s repeated criticism of the Brazilian government. President Lula did not directly address Milei’s speech during a public event on Sunday. However, he appeared to respond indirectly by saying that Brazil would not accept interference from outsiders in its internal affairs. His comments were seen as a clear message that foreign leaders should avoid becoming involved in Brazil’s domestic political disputes. The latest exchange has further strained ties between South America’s two largest economies. Despite their political differences, Brazil and Argentina remain each other’s biggest trading partners, making stable diplomatic relations important for regional trade and economic cooperation. With Brazil’s presidential election approaching, political tensions are expected to remain high. Milei’s public support for Flavio Bolsonaro and his criticism of Lula have added an international dimension to the campaign, increasing pressure on relations between the neighboring countries at a time when cooperation remains vital on economic and regional issues.

Egypt may join Pakistan, Türkiye, Saudi defence pact

Egypt could become the next country to join the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement signed by Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has said. Fidan said the defence pact is broadly comparable to NATO’s mutual defence principle. He stressed that the agreement is not aimed at Iran or any other country. According to the Turkish foreign minister, the pact is designed to provide a framework for the three countries to support each other’s security. He said the member states would consult each other in the event of an attack. They would then determine the nature and level of assistance required. Fidan said Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan wants the alliance to expand beyond its three founding members. Egypt is among the countries being considered for possible membership. He said some technical issues would need to be resolved before Egypt could join the arrangement. Fidan explained that the alliance would begin with Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia. He said the members intended to take gradual but practical steps to build the new security framework. A ministerial committee similar to structures used within NATO is also expected to be established. The alliance will also have a general secretariat based in Saudi Arabia. Further operational details are expected to be discussed during the first meeting of the proposed committee. Fidan said the agreement was the result of negotiations that had continued for more than two years. He also stressed that the new arrangement would not replace existing military alliances. The Turkish minister said the pact was intended to strengthen regional cooperation. He said it could eventually bring more countries together under a common security framework. Meanwhile, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation welcomed the signing of the agreement. OIC Secretary General Hissein Brahim Taha expressed strong support for the pact. He described it as an important strategic development for regional and international cooperation. Taha said the agreement could contribute to security and stability across the region and the wider Muslim world. He also praised the leadership of Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia. He said their efforts had resulted in what he described as a historic agreement. The pact was signed on Friday during a trilateral summit in Makkah. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif signed the agreement at Al-Safa Palace. Under the agreement, the three countries have committed to strengthening defence cooperation and collective security. The pact also seeks to promote peace, stability and prosperity. Officials said the agreement is not directed against any country. They said it is based on a shared approach to security and burden-sharing. The agreement also establishes a collective deterrence principle. An armed attack against any one of the three member states will be treated as an attack against all three.

Tom Holland and Zendaya celebrate exclusive post-wedding event

Hollywood stars Zendaya and Tom Holland have reportedly celebrated their marriage once again with an intimate wedding ceremony in England, months after quietly tying the knot earlier this year. The couple, who have remained one of the entertainment industry’s most private pairs, reportedly took a break from their demanding work schedules and international press commitments to mark the special occasion with a close circle of family members and friends. The private celebration was held at the luxurious Beaverbrook Hotel in Surrey, located near Kingston-upon-Thames in southwest London, an area closely connected to Holland’s upbringing. The exclusive venue, known for its historic charm and scenic surroundings, was reserved exclusively for the couple and their guests for the special event. The lavish Victorian estate spans approximately 370 acres and has welcomed numerous high-profile visitors over the years. Its rich history and secluded location made it an ideal setting for the couple’s intimate celebration away from the public eye. To maintain complete privacy, strict security measures were reportedly put in place throughout the event. Guests and staff members were required to follow a no-phone policy, ensuring that no photographs or videos from the ceremony were shared publicly. The precaution reflected the couple’s long-standing commitment to keeping their personal lives out of the spotlight. According to reports, the wedding celebration was designed to remain entirely confidential, with organizers taking significant steps to prevent any details from leaking before or after the event. The ceremony allowed the newlyweds to celebrate their relationship in a relaxed and private atmosphere surrounded by their closest loved ones. Zendaya and Holland’s romance began after the two met while filming Marvel’s Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2016. Although speculation about their relationship circulated for years, they largely kept their romance private and rarely discussed it publicly. Their relationship continued to grow over the years, and the pair reportedly became engaged in 2024. Fans have closely followed their journey ever since, with the couple frequently earning praise for balancing their successful careers while maintaining a low-profile personal life. Earlier this year, speculation about their marriage intensified after Zendaya’s longtime stylist, Law Roach, publicly indicated that the pair had already exchanged vows. While neither Zendaya nor Holland has officially shared details of their wedding, reports of the private ceremony in England have further fueled excitement among fans around the world. Despite their global fame, the couple continue to prioritize privacy, choosing intimate celebrations over highly publicized events as they begin the next chapter of their life together.
