Pakistan blames Afghan-based militants for rising …

Islamabad: Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has said that banned militant groups, including Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), and the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM), are operating from Afghan territory under the protection of the Afghan Taliban.

Speaking at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Council of Foreign Ministers meeting, Dar described terrorism originating from Afghanistan as a serious threat to regional peace and stability. He said these militant groups continue to carry out attacks from across the border, posing a major security challenge for Pakistan.

Dar stated that Pakistan has witnessed more than 2,000 terrorist attacks so far this year, resulting in the deaths of over 560 civilians. He also claimed that evidence had emerged linking some Afghan nationals to several of these attacks.

The foreign minister urged SCO member states to call on the Afghan Taliban to fulfill their counterterrorism commitments and prevent Afghan territory from being used by militant organizations.

Reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to regional peace, Dar said dialogue, diplomacy, and mutual respect remain the only sustainable solutions to regional disputes. He highlighted Pakistan’s role in promoting diplomatic engagement and stressed the importance of supporting ongoing peace initiatives.

Dar also noted that Pakistan hosted talks between Iran and the United States in April 2026, which, according to him, led to the signing of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding in June 2026. He urged the international community to support diplomatic efforts while remaining vigilant against attempts to undermine the peace process.

Looking ahead, Dar said Pakistan will assume the chairmanship of the SCO Council of Heads of State in September 2026 and host the SCO Summit in 2027. During its chairmanship, Pakistan plans to prioritize regional connectivity, trade, agricultural cooperation, youth exchanges, and stronger people-to-people ties.

On the sidelines of the SCO meeting, Dar also met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. The two leaders discussed bilateral relations, regional developments, and efforts to promote peace and stability. Dar emphasized the need for restraint, de-escalation, and continued diplomatic engagement in addressing regional challenges, while both sides agreed to maintain close coordination on issues of mutual interest.

UN chief visits Syria after 17 years and backs reconstruction efforts

United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres visited Syria on Saturday for the first time in 17 years, marking a significant moment in the country’s efforts to rebuild after more than a decade of conflict. During his visit to Damascus, Guterres met Syrian President Ahmed al Sharaa and pledged continued UN support for reconstruction, humanitarian recovery and long-term stability as Syria works to recover from years of war. President Sharaa welcomed Guterres at the presidential palace, where the two leaders held talks focused on rebuilding the country and strengthening cooperation with the United Nations. Speaking after the meeting alongside Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al Shaibani, Guterres said no nation can recover from a devastating conflict without international assistance. He stressed that the global community has a responsibility to help Syria restore its economy, rebuild damaged infrastructure and create conditions for lasting peace. Foreign Minister Shaibani called on the international community, particularly the European Union, to increase financial and technical support for Syria’s recovery. He said discussions with Guterres also covered plans to expand UN assistance for reconstruction projects and support the government’s efforts to gradually close displacement camps as security conditions improve. Regional security was another major topic during the visit. Guterres expressed concern over the situation in the Golan Heights, describing recent developments as unacceptable. Syrian officials repeated their demand for Israeli forces to withdraw immediately from the United Nations monitored buffer zone where troops have been stationed since 2024. Damascus has also called for a return to the 1974 disengagement agreement that previously governed military positions in the area. The visit is being viewed as another important step in Syria’s return to the international stage following the removal of former president Bashar al Assad in late 2024. The end of Assad’s rule brought an end to a civil war that began in 2011 and resulted in hundreds of thousands of deaths while forcing millions of Syrians to flee their homes. At the time, Guterres described the political transition as a hopeful moment for both Syria and the wider region. Before arriving in Damascus, the UN chief described his trip as a visit of solidarity and reaffirmed the United Nations’ commitment to supporting the Syrian people during this critical period. He is expected to spend several days in the country, meeting senior government officials, representatives of civil society and humanitarian organizations. Guterres is also scheduled to address Syria’s parliament, where he is expected to speak about the country’s opportunity to build a more stable, inclusive and prosperous future after years of conflict. The visit comes as Syria continues to rebuild diplomatic ties with countries around the world. President Sharaa’s administration has sought to strengthen relations beyond the country’s traditional allies while encouraging international investment and cooperation. Since taking office, the government has focused on restoring Syria’s place in regional and global affairs after years of political isolation. Recent diplomatic developments have reflected that effort. Last year, Sharaa became the first Syrian president in decades to address the United Nations General Assembly. Earlier this month, US President Donald Trump announced plans to remove Syria from the United States list of state sponsors of terrorism after Washington lifted most of its sanctions on the country. Despite these diplomatic gains, security concerns remain. Guterres’ visit follows recent bomb explosions near a hotel in Damascus that had hosted French President Emmanuel Macron during his landmark visit, the first by a European Union head of state since Syria’s political transition. The incidents highlighted the continuing security challenges facing the country as it moves through a delicate rebuilding process. During his stay, Guterres is also expected to visit the UN peacekeeping mission responsible for monitoring the buffer zone between Israeli and Syrian forces. The mission has operated in the area for decades and continues to play a key role in maintaining stability along the disputed frontier. His visit underscores the United Nations’ commitment to supporting Syria’s recovery while encouraging dialogue, regional stability and international cooperation.

Daniel Siad, modelling scout with ties to Epstein,…

Daniel Siad, a modelling scout whose name appeared nearly 2,000 times in the Epstein files released by the US Department of Justice, was found dead at his home outside Paris on Wednesday, prosecutors said. His body was reportedly discovered in the kitchen by a woman staying with him, and a neighbor reportedly attempted CPR without success. Siad’s death comes amid a wide-ranging probe into human trafficking and tax fraud opened in February following the release of the Epstein files. Since the investigation began, 24 women have come forward as victims or witnesses of alleged acts committed by Siad or others, Paris prosecutor Laure Beccuau said in a statement. As part of the probe, Siad had been subjected to special scrutiny, though he had repeatedly proclaimed his innocence. Siad’s lawyer, Arab-Tigrine, told Reuters that Siad had asked on several occasions to be heard by French judicial authorities, but that no action was taken. She confirmed that Siad had died of a heart attack. Siad is the second man publicly linked to Epstein who has died in France. In 2020, French authorities arrested modelling agent Jean-Luc Brunel after allegations he procured women for Epstein. Brunel was found hanged in his prison cell in 2022, having spent 14 months in custody awaiting trial on charges of rape of minors and sexual harassment. He denied the charges, along with any participation in Epstein’s sex trafficking. The Epstein files, released by the US Department of Justice, have revealed extensive connections between the late financier and individuals in the modelling and entertainment industries. Epstein, who died in prison in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges, had a long history of exploiting young women and maintaining a network of powerful associates. The release of these documents has reignited debates about accountability and the extent of Epstein’s influence. Siad’s death raises questions about the circumstances surrounding his passing and the ongoing investigation into his activities. His lawyer’s statement that he had sought to be heard by authorities suggests a desire to clear his name, but his sudden death has left many unanswered questions. The French authorities have not yet released further details about the investigation into Siad’s activities, but the probe continues as more victims and witnesses come forward. The deaths of Brunel and Siad have drawn attention to the high-profile individuals connected to Epstein who have died under unusual circumstances. While both men denied the allegations against them, their deaths have fueled speculation about the extent of Epstein’s network and the pressure faced by those connected to him. As the investigation continues, the public will be watching closely for any further developments in the case. Siad’s death marks another chapter in the ongoing saga of the Epstein scandal, which has exposed the dark underbelly of the modelling and entertainment industries and raised questions about the accountability of those who enabled Epstein’s crimes. The investigation into Siad’s activities and the broader network of individuals connected to Epstein is likely to continue, with the hope of bringing justice to the victims and shedding further light on the extent of Epstein’s influence.

‘Ramayana: Part One’ finally gets official release date

The makers of one of the year’s most anticipated films have finally locked in a release date. Sony Pictures confirmed on X that the epic will hit theatres soon. Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film stars Ranbir Kapoor, Sai Pallavi and Yash in lead roles. It’s set to release on November 6, 2026, just two days ahead of Diwali. Produced by Namit Malhotra, the project is being released as a two-part film. While Part One arrives this November, Part Two isn’t expected until around Diwali 2027, though an exact date is yet to be revealed. Ranbir Kapoor recently opened up to The Direct about the difficulty of adapting the sprawling epic into just two films. He admitted that doing justice to the story in such a limited format wasn’t easy. The 43-year-old actor explained that a story as vast as Ramayana would typically need far more room to be told properly. He said condensing it into two parts posed a genuine creative challenge. Kapoor also pushed back against the idea that the story required reinterpretation for today’s audiences. He said the text has endured for roughly 4,000 years, offering timeless lessons on courage, forgiveness, compassion and the battle between good and evil. He added that Lord Rama has remained a moral guide for millions of people across generations. For Kapoor, the story’s themes still resonate strongly without needing modern updates. The film’s trailer, released in July, opens with Yash’s Ravana declaring dominion over all three worlds before triggering widespread chaos. That destruction prompts Lord Vishnu to take the form of Ram to restore balance. The story then follows Ram’s journey through childhood, battles with demons, and his marriage to Sita, before he is sent into 14 years of exile. Sita and Lakshman choose to accompany him during that period. The narrative eventually shifts toward Sita’s abduction by Ravana, setting up the climactic battle that follows. With the release date now locked, anticipation for the film’s arrival is only expected to grow.

Bushra Ansari clarifies viral remarks about Saira …

Senior Pakistani actress Bushra Ansari has clarified her recent remarks after social media pages linked a story she shared during a podcast to actors Saira Yousuf and Shehroz Sabzwari. Bushra Ansari, who remains popular for her acting as well as her personal vlogs, recently discussed an incident involving the marriage of the only son of close friends during a podcast conversation. However, some social media pages allegedly connected the story to Saira Yousuf and Shehroz Sabzwari. In her latest vlog, Bushra Ansari expressed surprise over the way her comments had been presented online. She explained that she had been talking about close friends who are associated with the banking sector and had never said that the people involved in the story were actors. According to the actress, she was discussing a couple whose marriage ended because of differences over living arrangements. She said the wife wanted to establish a separate home, while the husband was unwilling to leave his parents. Bushra Ansari said that some social media pages subsequently used pictures of Saira Yousuf and Shehroz Sabzwari alongside the story, creating the impression that she had been referring to the former couple. The veteran actress strongly rejected the interpretation and criticized what she described as misleading and negative social media reporting. She said that parts of conversations are sometimes taken out of context and presented in a way that creates an entirely different narrative. Bushra Ansari also came to Saira Yousuf’s defense, describing her as a respectable person and saying that she continues to maintain good relations with members of her former in-laws’ family. She further said that Saira shares a loving relationship with her daughter, Zahra, and suggested that the families involved understand their relationships better than outsiders speculating on social media. The actress questioned why she would use the names of people close to her while discussing an unrelated personal story. She emphasized that the people she had mentioned in the podcast were her banker friends and that the story had no connection to Saira Yousuf or Shehroz Sabzwari. Bushra Ansari’s clarification comes amid growing speculation surrounding celebrities on social media, where comments from interviews and podcasts can quickly be reshared without their original context. The actress urged people to avoid believing or spreading claims based on misleading interpretations and reiterated that her original comments were not about Saira Yousuf and Shehroz Sabzwari.
