Vijay’s last film, “Jana Nayagan” releases amid massive fan celebrations

Vijay’s swansong film, Jana Nayagan, has finally arrived in theatres, marking what many are calling the actor’s farewell to the big screen as he turns his full attention to his political career. The film, which now carries extra weight given Vijay’s current role as Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister, has generated the kind of anticipation only a true superstar exit could produce.

The journey to this release was nowhere near smooth. Jana Nayagan was originally slated for a January debut, but ran into a roadblock with the CBFC over its certification, pushing the launch back by months. Now that the film has cleared that hurdle and secured its certificate, the excitement has spilled out everywhere.

Tamil Nadu’s fan culture came out in full force. Outside numerous theatres, supporters erected giant cutouts of Vijay, transforming entrances into shrines of celebration. The scenes were not quiet either, fireworks lit up the skies and drummers kept the energy pumping as crowds gathered ahead of screenings.

At Rohini Theatre, devotion took a more traditional turn. Fans performed an aarti ceremony in front of Vijay’s posters just moments before the first show rolled, treating the release less like a movie premiere and more like a sacred occasion. Meanwhile, according to a report from Gulf News, the celebrations in Tirunelveli had their own flavor entirely. Crowds assembled outside Muthuram Multiplex where organizers had set up a full DJ rig, turning the theatre’s exterior into an impromptu dance floor.

The buzz was not limited to fans only. Fellow actors made it a point to be present for this milestone screening. Keerthy Suresh and Trisha Krishnan were both spotted arriving at the theatre shortly before showtime, joining the wave of well-wishers eager to witness Vijay’s on-screen moment one final time.

Altogether, the release has turned into something far bigger than a typical movie opening. It feels like part fan tribute, part cultural event, and part send-off for an actor stepping fully into public office. Whether it is the drumbeats outside Tamil Nadu cinemas, the DJ sets in Tirunelveli, or the aarti rituals in Chennai, the message from fans is clear, this is not just another release, it is the closing chapter of a cinematic era, and they were not going to let it pass quietly.

Five killed in Michigan shooting as suspect found …

MICHIGAN: Five people were killed in a shooting in northern Michigan on Friday, while a suspected gunman was later found dead after police launched a manhunt, authorities said. Michigan State Police said troopers were dispatched at around 11:40am to a home in Missaukee County following reports of gunfire. Officers arriving at the scene discovered three people dead and a fourth victim seriously wounded. The injured person was taken to hospital and remained in critical condition, police said. Investigators identified the suspected shooter as 39-year-old Chad Hickman, who allegedly fled the area before officers arrived. His disappearance triggered an extensive search across the surrounding area as law enforcement teams worked to locate him. During the manhunt, investigators discovered another deceased victim at a second residence, bringing the reported death toll to five. Police later found Hickman’s vehicle near a wooded area close to Whitlock Lake. When officers searched the area, they found Hickman and another person dead, according to the state police statement. Authorities have not yet provided details about how Hickman or the other person died, and the circumstances surrounding the additional death remain under investigation. “This situation is heartbreaking for the community and challenging for the investigators involved,” Lieutenant Ashley Miller said in a statement cited by police. Police have withheld the names, ages and genders of the victims while officials work to notify their next of kin. The incident has left the northern Michigan community shaken as investigators continue examining the shooting, the second residence and the circumstances that led to the suspect’s death. Authorities are expected to release further information as the investigation progresses.

Fakhar Zaman says one good PSL game is not enough for a call-up

Pakistan opener Fakhar Zaman has weighed in on national team selections. He believes players should not be picked based on just one or two standout PSL performances. According to him, there is a significant gap between franchise cricket and the international game. The 35-year-old pointed out a growing trend. Several young players have made it into the national side after impressing in only a few PSL matches. He said that if a youngster is truly good enough to take his spot in the white-ball team, they should get that chance without hesitation. However, he added an important condition. Such players still need to prove their quality and consistency over time, not just deliver one strong performance. Fakhar also spoke about the gap between league and international cricket. He explained that many domestic performers only understand this difference once they step onto the international stage themselves. He suggested that regular development camps could help close this gap. At the same time, he cautioned against calling any player extraordinary after just one or two good PSL games. League cricket, he stressed, is simply not the same as international cricket. Turning to team matters, Fakhar revealed that batting order discussions have already taken place with the management. He was careful to note that not every detail from those conversations can be shared publicly. His personal approach, he said, has always been to prioritize what the team needs. He acknowledged that individual players naturally have their own preferences. Still, he pointed out that not everything can be aired through the media. What matters most, according to him, is that the entire squad stays united and aligned moving forward. Looking ahead, Fakhar also shared some thoughts on his history in South Africa. He said he has fond memories of playing there in the past. He credited the pace and bounce of South African pitches for suiting his natural batting style. He added that his current preparation is already focused on the 2027 World Cup. As selection debates continue to swirl around PSL performances, Fakhar’s comments offer a timely reminder. Consistency, not a single flash of brilliance, remains the real benchmark for making it at the international level, a point he seems keen on reinforcing as competition for spots heats up.

Russia extends fuel export ban until January 2027

Russia has extended its ban on diesel and petrol exports until January 31, 2027, as the government seeks to stabilise domestic fuel supplies and curb rising prices. In a statement, the Russian government said the export restrictions will remain in force until the end of January next year. The move is aimed at ensuring adequate fuel availability in the domestic market amid continued pressure on the country’s energy sector. The latest decision follows an earlier temporary ban on diesel exports that was imposed from July 8 to July 31. Russia has also previously restricted exports of petrol and jet fuel in an effort to address supply shortages at home. According to reports, the export curbs come after repeated Ukrainian drone attacks on Russian oil refineries, which have disrupted refining operations and reduced fuel production in several regions. The attacks have contributed to fuel shortages and rising domestic prices, prompting authorities to prioritise local demand over exports. The government believes extending the restrictions will help ease pressure on consumers and maintain stability in the country’s fuel market. Russia is one of the world’s leading exporters of refined petroleum products, and any changes to its export policy are closely monitored by global energy markets. Analysts say prolonged export restrictions could influence regional fuel supplies and international energy prices if they remain in place for an extended period. The government has not indicated whether the ban will be lifted before the January deadline, saying it will continue to monitor domestic fuel availability and market conditions.
