Aitzaz Ahsan calls for broader movement and empowered district governments

Lahore: Senior leader of the Pakistan People’s Party, Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan, has said that we are eating our future generations, there is a need for an organized and broader movement in Pakistan, if we remain divided into sects and castes, there will be no production.

If the potential is wasted now, Pakistan will suffer. He expressed these views while addressing a discussion on the topic of “More provinces or empowered district governments” organized by the People’s Information Bureau and Bhutto Shaheed Foundation at the SAIFMA Auditorium.

The moderators were Bushra Manzoor Maneka and Ahmed Ghuman. The ceremony was also addressed by Shahzad Saeed Cheema, Imtiaz Alam, Barrister Aamir Hassan, Khan Asif Khan, Ahmed Owais, Brigadier (R) Dr. Amin Amir Bahadur Hoti, Intikhab Hanif. On this occasion, Faiza Malik Bushra Malik, Sadia Sohail, Dr. Farid Zakaria, Sania Kamran, Fatima Malhi, Aamir Naseer Dozens of PPP workers including Butt, Chaudhry Riaz, Mian Atiq, Rao Shujaat, Wajid Ali Shah were present.

Addressing the discussion, the former Federal Interior Minister said that from August 14 till today, we have not seen any change in the British system except the change of the flag. He said that local bodies are not a substitute for anyone, elections should be held for them.

Chaudhry Aitzaz Ahsan said that unfortunately, Pakistan has a debt of 150 billion dollars. In which a ship worth 12 billion also has to come, the PPP also spends lavishly, we will have to tighten the belt tied around our stomach. He said that the problems are so serious that we have made our neighbors enemies, let’s go after looking at the international interest of the country, otherwise we will have to sing their song.

Today, the state has become a stepmother. One party is being beaten. Pakistan People’s Party Central Punjab Information Secretary Shahzad Saeed Cheema said that the 73rd unanimous constitution of Pakistan is a social contract, except for the 18th amendment, there are and will be question marks on the motives of every legislation. He said that everyone admits that whose thumb is on the neck of the parliament, there is a big difference between the choice of an individual and a book.

Shahzad Saeed Cheema said that our problem is not authority, the problem is the distribution of authority. Imtiaz Alam said that the country was divided but the mandate of the people was not accepted, Imtiaz Alam clarified that national units are constitutional units from which a federation is formed, the main problem of Pakistan Authority-run system. He asked. Have the provinces become empowered after the 18th Amendment?

The Joint Interests Council has not met for the last 2 years. He said that we are not ready to give municipal power to the Kashmiris and have gone to hold local body elections. Two provinces are already unstable and now they want to do the same for Sindh. Imtiaz Alam said that the military brothers should do their work, Pakistan is becoming administratively ungovernable. Birsatar Aamir Hassan said that our state institutions are working, right?

Local governments, we have received the gifts of democracy from General Zia. He emphasized that Asif Zardari has taken out the N from the N, which has given 17 budgets. The People’s Party is the founder of the constitution, the same constitution put Bhutto on the throne. He said that if there is no rule of law, then what is the use?

The People’s Party has not come through any Faiz Hameed nor has it been raised by any Hameed. He emphasized that Provinces should be formed constitutionally. Dividing ideas is not a child’s play. Barrister Aamir Hassan said, “We have been struggling since 1988. Don’t tell us Form 47. You are still a school child.” He said that it is impossible to become Zulfikar Ali Bhutto in history and it is difficult to become Asif Zardari.

President Zardari gave powers to the parliament, the parliament gave powers to the provinces, now the provinces have given powers to the district governments. Barrister Aamir further said that abusing the army will not work. We have learned this by sacrificing our lives, we invite them to do politics, otherwise the people are helpless against politics, the 8houses and those whose names they cannot name.

Dr. Amin said that the army does not come without the support of political parties, we are all Pakistanis, otherwise the issue of new provinces should become Kalabagh Dam. PTI leader Ahmed Owais said that a system is running in Pakistan without the constitution and law, here you cannot express your opinion, there is a ban on speaking and listening.

Pakistan English media Associations (PEMA) representative and senior journalist Intikhab Hanif said all steps in Pakistan have been taken by the sitting regimes. And have been reversed after a change in government which has cost dearly to the country. No one is allowed the discuss the pros and cons of policy during a regime. And those supporting it start finding faults in the policy after the regime is over. Please make state policies in consultation with all stakeholders so that they are owned and continued by the succeeding regimes.

KP considers law for computerized prescriptions an…

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government is considering new legislation that would require doctors to prescribe medicines using their generic names instead of brand names and issue computerized prescriptions to patients. The provincial government has announced plans to consult the federal government, as the matter falls under federal jurisdiction. The proposal was discussed in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly after Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) lawmaker Mehr Sultana submitted a calling attention notice highlighting the absence of an effective legal framework requiring doctors to prescribe medicines by their generic names. According to the lawmaker, many physicians continue to prescribe branded medicines, limiting patients’ ability to choose more affordable alternatives. She argued that requiring doctors to write only the generic or formula name of a medicine would improve transparency, increase competition among pharmaceutical companies, and reduce treatment costs for patients. Mehr Sultana also emphasized the need to make computerized prescriptions mandatory, pointing out that handwritten prescriptions are often difficult to read. Illegible prescriptions can result in medication errors, delays in treatment, and confusion for pharmacists and patients. She urged the provincial government to introduce legislation or regulations that would modernize the prescription system and improve patient safety. Responding to the proposal, KP Health Minister Khaliq ur Rahman acknowledged the importance of the issue but explained that the authority to legislate in this area primarily rests with the federal government. He said the provincial government would formally approach the federal authorities to explore the possibility of introducing the necessary legal changes. The discussion also covered healthcare infrastructure in the province. During the assembly session, lawmaker Shahida Waheed raised concerns over non-functional CT scan and MRI machines at Mardan Medical Complex. In response, the health minister informed the assembly that the CT scan machine had already been repaired, while the MRI machine is expected to become operational within a week. If implemented, the proposed reforms could significantly improve prescribing practices across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by encouraging the use of generic medicines and replacing handwritten prescriptions with digital records. Supporters of the proposal believe these changes would help reduce medication errors, lower healthcare costs, and improve access to affordable medicines, while also promoting greater efficiency in hospitals and clinics. Any legal amendments, however, will require coordination with the federal government before they can be introduced and enforced.

Fake DAP fertiliser worth over Rs20m seized in Guj…

GUJRAT: The Agriculture (Extension) Department has seized counterfeit DAP fertiliser worth more than Rs20 million during a raid at Hasan Rice Mills in Mouza Mohla, Gujrat, in what officials described as a major crackdown on the illegal fertiliser trade. The operation was conducted under the supervision of Director Agriculture (Extension) Gujrat Division Dr Irfanullah Warraich by Assistant Director Agriculture (Extension) and Assistant Controller Fertilizer Muhammad Athar Latif. During the raid, officials inspected the premises and collected samples of suspected DAP fertiliser for laboratory testing. They also sealed 1,140 bags of fertiliser, each weighing 50 kilograms, with an estimated value of Rs18.24 million. According to the Agriculture Department, laboratory analysis later confirmed that the fertiliser was counterfeit. Officials said subsequent investigations revealed that a total of 1,270 bags of fake DAP fertiliser, worth approximately Rs20.32 million, were linked to the operation. Out of these, 1,244 bags were taken into police custody as case property. A case has been registered against Muhammad Azmat and other suspects under the Punjab Fertilizer Control Act, 2025. Police also arrested Ghulam Hussain, the in-charge of Hasan Rice Mills, during the raid. The department said the crackdown was aimed at protecting farmers from substandard agricultural inputs that could adversely affect crop production and cause financial losses. Officials added that counterfeit fertilisers not only reduce crop yields but also undermine farmers’ confidence in certified agricultural products. They urged growers to purchase fertilisers only from authorised dealers and to report any suspicious products or illegal storage facilities to the Agriculture Department. The department said further investigations are underway to trace the source of the counterfeit fertiliser, identify other individuals involved in its manufacture and distribution, and determine whether similar consignments had been supplied to other markets in the region. Agriculture officials reaffirmed their commitment to continuing strict enforcement against the production, storage and sale of fake fertilisers to safeguard farmers’ interests and ensure the availability of quality agricultural inputs across Punjab.

Oil prices rise more than $2 amid falling US inven…

Global crude oil prices climbed by more than $2 per barrel in the latest trading session, as a decline in US crude inventories boosted market sentiment and supported prices. According to Reuters, the rise came after traders responded to signs of tighter oil supplies in the United States. A drop in crude stockpiles often signals stronger demand or reduced availability, which can encourage investors to push prices higher. Oil prices had fallen in the previous session after tensions between Washington and Tehran showed signs of easing temporarily. However, the market regained momentum in the latest session as supply concerns returned to focus. Brent crude futures gained $2.71, or 3.2%, to reach $86.80 per barrel. Meanwhile, US West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures rose $2.26, or 3.4%, to trade at $81.95 per barrel. Market participants continue to closely monitor developments in the Middle East, particularly any changes in US-Iran relations, as well as global supply conditions. Any renewed tensions in the region could further affect oil markets because of the Middle East’s importance to global energy supplies. Analysts also expect traders to keep an eye on upcoming inventory data and broader demand trends. A combination of falling stockpiles, geopolitical uncertainty and concerns over supply could continue to create volatility in international oil prices in the coming sessions.
