Iranian flight plunges, makes emergency Ankara landing

ANKARA: An Iranian passenger aircraft travelling from Istanbul to Tehran made an emergency landing at Ankara International Airport after reportedly developing a serious technical problem during the flight.

According to sources, Iranian Flight 7282 departed from Istanbul at 11:43am Pakistan Standard Time with Tehran as its destination. The flight initially proceeded normally after takeoff.

At around noon, the aircraft was reportedly cruising at an altitude of approximately 35,000 feet when a sudden technical malfunction occurred. The aircraft subsequently began losing altitude, prompting the crew to take emergency measures.

The pilot formally declared an emergency at approximately 12:13pm. During the emergency descent, the aircraft rapidly lost altitude and reportedly descended to around 10,975 feet.

Sources said the aircraft later disappeared from radar at an altitude of approximately 7,815 feet. It reportedly reappeared on radar around five minutes later at an altitude of about 5,150 feet.

As the situation developed, the pilot contacted Ankara Air Traffic Control and requested permission to divert the aircraft to Ankara for an emergency landing.

The request was granted, and the aircraft landed safely at Ankara International Airport at approximately 12:29pm.

Following the landing, security and emergency personnel immediately moved into position around the aircraft. The plane was surrounded as a precaution and subsequently transferred to a designated area of the airport.

Sources said the aircraft remained at Ankara Airport following the emergency landing. Its engines were reportedly still running while the aircraft remained under observation.

There were no immediate reports of casualties or injuries following the landing.

The exact nature of the technical malfunction has not yet been officially disclosed. It is also unclear whether the problem involved the aircraft’s engines, flight-control systems or another critical component.

A technical inspection is expected to determine what caused the aircraft to lose altitude so rapidly during the flight.

The incident comes as aviation authorities continue to maintain strict emergency procedures for aircraft experiencing technical problems while operating in international airspace.

In addition to the petroleum levy, petrol carries a climate support levy of Rs5 per litre and customs duty of Rs21.24 per litre. The price also includes an inland freight equalisation margin of Rs7.48 per litre. Meanwhile, oil marketing companies (OMCs) receive a margin of Rs7.87 per litre, while petroleum dealers are entitled to a margin of Rs8.64 per litre. Taken together, these taxes, levies, freight charges and commercial margins add a sizeable amount to the underlying cost of petrol, resulting in a significant difference between the basic product cost and the final price paid at filling stations. Diesel also carries substantial charges A similar situation is visible in the pricing structure of high-speed diesel. According to the documents, the basic cost of HSD has been calculated at Rs264.76 per litre, whereas its notified consumer price stands at Rs380.86 per litre. The difference of approximately Rs116 per litre represents taxes, levies and various margins included in the final price of diesel. The petroleum levy on HSD stands at Rs74.28 per litre, while a climate support levy of Rs5 per litre is also included in the price structure. Consumers are additionally paying Rs15.68 per litre in customs duty on HSD. The inland freight equalisation margin accounts for another Rs4.63 per litre. The pricing structure also provides Rs7.87 per litre as the margin for oil marketing companies and Rs8.64 per litre as the dealers’ margin. The figures highlight the significant role played by government levies and other charges in determining retail petroleum prices. While the basic cost reflects the underlying price of the petroleum product, the final amount paid by consumers also incorporates a range of taxes, levies, freight costs and margins. The petroleum levy remains one of the most prominent components of the pricing structure for both petrol and diesel. The government uses petroleum-related levies as an important source of revenue, while other components are intended to cover costs associated with transportation, marketing and retail distribution.     SECP registers record 5,438 new companies in July

    The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) recorded its highest-ever monthly company registrations, with 5,438 new companies incorporated during July, reflecting growing business activity and investor confidence in the country’s corporate sector. According to the SECP, five international companies established offices in Pakistan during the month. The foreign firms are from Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and China, highlighting continued overseas interest in Pakistan’s business environment. The commission said 112 newly registered companies include foreign directors, indicating increasing international participation in the local corporate sector. Of the total registrations, 3,148 were private limited companies, while 2,117 were single-member companies. In addition, 127 limited liability partnerships (LLPs) were incorporated during the month. The SECP also registered 28 non-profit organisations and 18 public companies. Provincially, Punjab accounted for the largest share of registrations, with 2,756 companies, representing 51% of the total. Islamabad followed with 1,053 companies, while Sindh registered 864, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa 450, Gilgit-Baltistan 180, and Balochistan 135 new companies. The information technology (IT) sector recorded the highest number of new incorporations, with 1,008 companies registered during July. Other major sectors included trading with 845 new companies, services with 638, and construction with 348 registrations. The SECP also reported significant growth in other industries, with 256 companies registered in the food and beverages sector, 207 in tourism, 181 in e-commerce, 165 in education, 162 in real estate development, and 145 in corporate agriculture. The record number of company registrations reflects continued expansion across multiple sectors of Pakistan’s economy and increasing formalisation of businesses under the country’s corporate regulatory framework

According to the lawyer, the phone conversation took place at around 3:30am. The lawyer argued that the late-night phone call should be viewed in the context of their regular business dealings rather than being treated as evidence of involvement in the alleged crime. The defence also accused the police of harassing Abdullah during the investigation. His lawyer told the court that law-enforcement officials were repeatedly troubling the applicant despite the absence of any established evidence connecting him directly to the murder. The lawyer maintained that communication between Abdullah and Mir Raza at around the same time was not unusual. He explained that after completing his work, Mir Raza would generally speak with the applicant around that time. The defence therefore requested the court to provide Abdullah with protection from arrest while the authorities continued investigating the circumstances surrounding Mir Raza Ali’s death. After hearing the arguments, the court granted interim bail until September 1 and directed the relevant parties, including the investigating officer and complainant, to respond to the bail application. The applicant was also ordered to submit the required surety bonds. The court’s decision does not amount to a final determination regarding Abdullah’s involvement in the case.
