Suspect in Thai Family Triple Murder Near Pattaya Gives Additional Statement, Denies Link to Other Cases, Says He Was Forced to Participate by Other Suspects

CHONBURI, Thailand

On August 3rd, 2026, police questioned one of the suspects in the murders of three members of a Thai family for approximately one hour at Na Jomtien Police Station.

Pol. Col. Phasakorn Phaichit, Superintendent of Investigation for the Chonburi Provincial Police, conducted the additional interview with Mr. Chatchanan Paeniam, also known as “Fluke,” 24. Investigators had obtained permission from Pattaya Provincial Court to bring him from detention for further questioning to examine remaining issues in the case.

Mr. Suksan Missajan, President of the Pattaya Lawyers Council, attended the session in accordance with Section 134/1 of the Criminal Procedure Code. After the interview, it was disclosed that the suspect had voluntarily requested to give an additional statement.

In his account, Fluke maintained that he was aware of and involved only in the killings of the three Thai family members. He denied any knowledge of or connection to the murders of two Russian siblings or reports of any other possible deaths.

During the questioning, Fluke appeared distressed and cried several times. He confessed to the charges against him and provided information that investigators considered potentially useful to the case. Specific details from the case file have not been released, as authorities continue to gather evidence and expand the investigation.

The lawyer stated that the suspect claimed he became involved under duress. Police will verify this assertion against witness statements, physical evidence and other materials. Fluke gave partial accounts of his actions, including traveling to the victims’ home, moving vehicles and using the victims’ property, but further details remain withheld as they form key elements of the case file.

Investigators have charged him with jointly murdering others with premeditation and are considering additional charges related to property and post-incident conduct.

Suksan added that Fluke cried during the interview and said he did not want to face the death penalty. The lawyer explained that while a confession could be taken into account, it does not automatically lead to a reduced sentence, as the court will weigh all evidence in the file.

After the session, officers returned Fluke to Pattaya Special Prison under a detention order. As he was being escorted to the vehicle, reporters asked about his role on the day of the incident. He said he had been deceived into going along, believing he was helping to detain someone in a matter connected to drugs, and that he had not known a murder would occur.

He acknowledged that he realized from the outset the other suspects were not genuine police officers. He said he did not report the matter afterward because he feared being attacked or killed to silence him, as the suspects knew both him and his family and had threatened him.

Fluke apologized for the events and stated that he would not have joined the group had he known in advance that murders would take place. When asked who fired the gun that killed the victims, he did not answer before officers took him away.

Cancer patient girl stuck in Karachi traffic jam d…

A young girl undergoing cancer treatment was reportedly caught in a Karachi traffic jam while her family was taking her to a hospital for a medical check-up on Thursday. According to local media reports, the girl and her family became stuck near Essa Nagri after residents staged a protest over prolonged electricity and water outages in the area. The demonstration resulted in severe traffic congestion and long queues of vehicles on surrounding roads. The girl’s family said they were taking her to hospital for a scheduled check-up when they became trapped in the traffic. According to the family, the child is suffering from chest cancer and had a urine bag attached to her at the time, making the delay particularly distressing. Residents said they had been facing shortages of both electricity and water for around 15 days. Frustrated by the prolonged disruption, they took to the streets to demand an improvement in basic services. The protest caused significant disruption to traffic movement in the area. The road connecting Gharibabad to Hasan Square was reportedly closed to traffic, with vehicles being diverted through Liaquatabad No. 10, Karimabad and an internal bypass near Gharibabad. Traffic heading from the Hasan Square U-turn was also diverted towards University Road and NIPA. Meanwhile, motorists travelling from Hasan Square towards Liaquatabad faced further congestion and delays. The incident has drawn attention to the difficult balance between residents’ right to protest over essential services and the impact such demonstrations can have on emergency and medical journeys. For the affected family, the traffic jam created an especially difficult situation because of the child’s medical condition and the need to reach the hospital on time. The case also highlights the broader consequences of prolonged civic service disruptions, which can affect not only daily commuters but also patients requiring urgent or scheduled medical care. Residents maintain that repeated power and water outages have left them with little choice but to protest. Authorities, meanwhile, face the challenge of resolving the underlying service complaints while ensuring that major roads remain accessible, particularly for ambulances and people travelling for medical treatment. The situation has once again highlighted Karachi’s traffic and infrastructure challenges, as protests and road closures can quickly cause widespread congestion across major routes.

US unable to verify Israeli claims of Iranian plot…

The United States has been unable to independently confirm several warnings from Israel alleging that Iran was planning to assassinate President Donald Trump, according to current and former US officials familiar with the intelligence. The warnings were reportedly shared with US intelligence agencies over the past year and, in some cases, communicated directly by Israeli officials to senior members of the White House. The alleged plots included plans to target Trump with a sniper or recruit an attacker to use a knife during a major public gathering. According to the officials, the warnings began emerging before the 12-day Israel-Iran war in June 2025 and became more frequent ahead of the US military campaign against Iran in February. One of the most detailed warnings reportedly came before the NATO summit in Ankara in July. Israeli officials informed the White House that Iran might attempt to target Trump while he was travelling aboard Air Force One, potentially using a shoulder-launched missile. However, US intelligence agencies were unable to independently corroborate several of the specific threats. A Turkish official also said that Turkey’s intelligence services found no evidence supporting the Israeli warning concerning a possible attack on Trump during his visit. Despite the lack of confirmation, US authorities took additional security precautions. Among the measures was an unusual deception operation during Trump’s Turkey trip, in which he was reportedly transferred from Air Force One to another aircraft for his return journey. The episode highlights the growing importance of Israeli intelligence in the Trump administration’s assessment of threats from Iran, while also revealing differences between American, Israeli and Turkish intelligence assessments. US intelligence agencies have long assessed that Iran has an interest in retaliating against Trump over the 2020 killing of Iranian military commander Qassem Soleimani. However, officials said the CIA has not been able to verify some of the specific assassination claims attributed to Iranian operatives. During the recent US military operations against Iran, some American intelligence assessments reportedly assigned low confidence to Israeli intelligence concerning Iranian threats, including alleged plans to assassinate Trump. The Israeli Embassy rejected the suggestion that Israel was using intelligence sharing to influence US policy toward Iran, arguing that intelligence exchanges were part of the countries’ security relationship. The White House and CIA declined to comment on the reports, while the US Secret Service said it continuously evaluates intelligence and other information to protect the president. The revelations come amid broader concerns over coordination within the US intelligence community. Former officials said cooperation between the CIA and the National Intelligence Council had declined, while staff reductions at the Office of the Director of National Intelligence had also contributed to fewer recent assessments concerning Iran. The conflicting intelligence assessments underline the challenges facing Washington as it balances threats from Tehran with intelligence supplied by its closest regional ally, Israel.

US unveils toughest-ever sanctions push against Ir…

WASHINGTON: The United States is preparing what Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent described as the toughest sanctions campaign ever imposed on Iran, as Washington seeks to intensify economic pressure on Tehran while potentially reducing the need for further major military action. The announcement came after President Donald Trump warned that countries supporting Iran could face severe economic penalties. Trump said the United States was launching an unprecedented campaign of “economic warfare and isolation” against Iran and threatened consequences for foreign governments, financial institutions and businesses that provide assistance to Tehran. Bessent said the planned measures would target activities linked to Iran’s economy, including oil smuggling, financial transfers, exchange houses, ship registries and front companies. He indicated that maximum economic pressure could reduce the likelihood of a large-scale resumption of military operations. Iran strongly condemned the US strategy, accusing Washington of committing “economic terrorism” and “crimes against humanity.” Its Foreign Ministry argued that sanctions imposed on Iran have harmed the basic rights and livelihoods of ordinary citizens and said those responsible should face legal consequences. The escalating tensions have also affected global energy markets. Oil prices climbed to their highest level in more than three weeks following Washington’s latest threats, amid concerns over disruptions to Middle Eastern oil supplies after months of conflict. Bessent said the administration would provide further details at a press conference on Monday, describing the strategy as a combination of economic sanctions and a US blockade. The announcement signals a major escalation in Washington’s economic campaign against Tehran as both sides remain locked in a deepening confrontation. Moreover, US President Donald Trump has announced a major new economic offensive against Iran. He described the move as the most crushing economic operation ever taken against a country. Trump said the United States would launch an unprecedented campaign to put further economic pressure on Tehran. He also warned countries and entities that continue to support Iran that they could face severe economic consequences. The US president said the campaign was aimed at isolating Iran and cutting off its remaining economic lifelines. He described the policy as economic warfare on an extraordinary scale. Trump warned that any country allowing its financial institutions, businesses, airports or government bodies to provide support to Iran would also face consequences. He specifically pointed to activities such as oil smuggling, cash transfers, exchange houses, shipping networks and front companies. However, Trump did not provide full details of the new measures. He also did not name any specific country that could be targeted for helping Iran. The announcement marks a further escalation in Washington’s pressure campaign against Tehran. The United States has already imposed extensive sanctions on Iran and has been seeking to restrict its access to international markets, foreign currency and oil revenues. Iran is already facing serious economic difficulties. The ongoing conflict, sanctions and disruptions to trade have placed additional pressure on the country’s economy. Reuters reported that Iran has been dealing with high inflation, a weakening currency and declining economic activity. Trump’s latest announcement comes as efforts to resolve the conflict through negotiations remain stalled. The United States has continued to demand major concessions from Iran, while Tehran has maintained its own demands for an end to the blockade and military pressure. The economic campaign could also affect countries and companies that maintain commercial links with Iran. Washington has previously considered measures aimed at countries involved in Iranian trade, particularly activities connected to oil and financial transactions. The development has raised concerns about further pressure on Iran’s economy and the wider regional situation. The conflict has already disrupted trade and shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a major route for global energy supplies. Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held a telephone conversation with Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir. During the call, they discussed efforts to find a political and diplomatic solution to the ongoing issues. The contact comes as diplomatic efforts continue alongside growing economic and military pressure. Pakistan has repeatedly emphasized dialogue and diplomacy as the preferred way to address regional tensions

PTI protest: man without both arms arrested over a…

ISLAMABAD: A unusual development emerged during the hearing of cases related to a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest in Islamabad after police presented a man who has no arms in court on allegations of throwing stones and wielding sticks during the demonstration. The case relates to a protest held on August 5 in connection with supporters expressing solidarity with PTI founder Imran Khan. Several people arrested in connection with the protest were produced before the District and Sessions Courts in Islamabad. Among those presented was Altaf Ullah, who had been arrested by police and booked at Koral Police Station. Authorities accused him of involvement in acts including stone-pelting during the protest. However, the case took an unusual turn when the accused’s lawyer, Sardar Masroor, challenged the allegations before Duty Magistrate Rizwan-ud-Din. The lawyer argued that his client could not have carried out the alleged acts because he has no arms. He asked the court to consider the physical condition of the accused before proceeding with the case. The court examined the accused in the courtroom and confirmed that both of his arms were absent. Following the observation, the court discharged Altaf Ullah from the case. He was therefore released from the proceedings related to the allegations brought against him. The incident has drawn attention because of the apparent contradiction between the allegations in the police case and the physical condition of the accused. The case highlights the importance of verifying allegations and considering available evidence during legal proceedings. While police had accused the man of involvement in stone-pelting and wielding sticks, the court’s examination of his physical condition led to his discharge. The development came during hearings involving people arrested over the August 5 PTI-related protest in Islamabad. Authorities had registered cases against individuals accused of various activities during the demonstration. The court’s decision in Altaf Ullah’s case means that he has been discharged from the particular case presented before the magistrate. The PTI protest man without both arms arrested case has since attracted attention because of the unusual circumstances surrounding the arrest and subsequent court proceedings. Further proceedings in other cases related to the protest are expected to continue separately.
