PM Shehbaz orders expansion of digital services fo…

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed authorities to expand digital consular services for overseas Pakistanis, improve facilities at Pakistani missions abroad, simplify the complaints system and speed up the digitization of document attestation and official transactions. According to a statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, the directives came during a meeting chaired by the prime minister in which officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Pakistani ambassadors serving in various countries, and senior representatives from the Ministry of Interior, the Federal Investigation Agency, the Ministry of Information Technology and other relevant departments briefed him on ongoing reform efforts. Shehbaz said overseas Pakistanis represent a valuable asset for the country and that providing them with every possible facility remains a top government priority. Officials told the meeting that a QR code system has already been rolled out to simplify procedures for power of attorney, property transactions and document attestation for Pakistanis living abroad. The prime minister welcomed the initiative and directed authorities to prominently display the QR codes at Pakistani embassies and missions worldwide to improve access to the digital complaints registration system. Shehbaz also instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to launch a dedicated awareness campaign encouraging overseas Pakistanis to use the QR code based system when filing complaints. The meeting was told that the ministry has recently introduced an evening shift at its Islamabad office to make services more accessible to citizens, and that document attestation services have also been launched at the Asaan Khidmat Centre in Islamabad. Officials further reported that the ministry has introduced courier based attestation services and linked its verification system with databases maintained by the Higher Education Commission, the Inter Boards Coordination Commission, the National Database and Registration Authority and the National Police Bureau, a step that has significantly cut processing times. The meeting also heard that the apostille system has reduced document attestation to a single step process. Officials said work is now underway to fully digitize the system, with the National Information Technology Board developing a mobile application that would allow digital verification of documents including birth and death certificates, marriage registration certificates and family registration certificates, among other official records. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar attended the meeting alongside federal ministers Ahsan Iqbal Cheema, Attaullah Tarar, Chaudhry Salik Hussain and Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Minister of State Awn Chaudhry, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa and other senior officials. The push to digitize consular services reflects a broader effort by the government to modernize public sector delivery and reduce bureaucratic delays, an initiative that has gained momentum in recent years as authorities look to integrate various state databases and cut down on the paperwork burden faced by citizens both at home and abroad.

Justice delayed for 40 years is injustice, says Mu…

Prominent religious scholar Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman has called for urgent reforms in Pakistan’s justice and economic systems, saying that a legal framework that fails to deliver justice for decades cannot be considered fair. Addressing a gathering in Karachi on Tuesday, Mufti Muneeb said prolonged court cases lasting 40 years amount to injustice and place an enormous burden on ordinary citizens. He stressed that timely justice is essential for social stability and public trust in institutions. The scholar also urged those in power to focus on resolving Pakistan’s domestic challenges. He said leaders often discuss global issues, but greater attention should be given to pressing national matters, particularly economic concerns affecting millions of people. Referring to the energy sector, Mufti Muneeb called for a solution to issues related to Independent Power Producers (IPPs), which have frequently been debated in Pakistan due to their impact on electricity costs and the national economy. He further highlighted the country’s financial difficulties, saying that after payments related to provincial allocations and debt obligations, limited resources remain for development and public welfare. Speaking at the same event, Maulana Bashir Farooqi expressed concern over the continuation of the interest-based banking system. He said there was a need for serious efforts to move toward alternative financial models and added that his organization was prepared to help train employees of conventional banks if reforms were introduced. The remarks come amid ongoing debates in Pakistan over judicial reforms, economic challenges and proposals for changes in the financial system.

Mir Raza’s father seeks suspension of police off…

KARACHI: The father of slain businessman Mir Raza Ali has called for the suspension of Karachi East DIG Dr Farrukh Ali and other police officials, accusing them of delaying the investigation and allegedly concealing crucial evidence in his son’s murder case. Speaking to reporters, Mir Hussain said the police had mishandled the investigation and urged authorities to take action against the Ferozabad SHO and other officers allegedly involved in the case. He claimed that officials had “played a game” with the grieving family. Twenty-five-year-old Mir Raza Ali, an IBA graduate and businessman, went missing on July 28 and was found dead in Gulistan-e-Jauhar the following day. While the initial investigation considered suicide as a possibility, his family consistently maintained that he had been abducted, tortured and murdered. The case took a new turn after a fresh post-mortem reportedly identified a gunshot wound to Ali’s back along with other injuries. A chemical examination also detected acid particles and gunshot-residue elements on his shirt, while police said sedatives were found in his blood and DNA testing matched his parents. Meanwhile, the family has requested that Ali’s smartwatch be examined by the Punjab Forensic Science Agency (PFSA), rather than the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA). Family lawyer Jibran Nasir expressed concern that the device had remained with a former investigation committee head for several days before being handed to the NCCIA, raising fears of possible tampering. The newly formed investigation team, headed by DIG Amir Farooqi, has written to the NCCIA seeking forensic analysis of the smartwatch as well as information concerning Ali’s social media and other digital accounts. Investigators have also revisited the crime scene, interviewed nursery staff and collected additional evidence. The team has been tasked with examining outstanding aspects of the case, including geofencing, mobile-data records and digital evidence. Authorities have set August 15 as the deadline for submission of the investigation report. Meanwhile, a medico-legal officer who conducted the initial post-mortem was removed following an inquiry that identified serious lapses in the examination.

Usama Mir starred with a three-wicket haul as Lahore Qalandars defeated Desert Vipers by 38 runs in the third match of the Global Super League 2026 at the Providence Stadium on Friday. Set a stiff target of 177, Desert Vipers could only muster 138-9 in 20 overs, with Mir leading the bowling attack to restrict the opposition effectively. Earlier, Parvez Hossain Emon and Michael Bracewell’s gutsy knocks lifted Lahore Qalandars to a strong total. Opting to bat first, the Qalandars piled up 176-4 in 20 overs, largely due to an unbeaten 83-run partnership between Emon and Bracewell. The pair rescued the team from a precarious 93-4 in 13.1 overs and propelled them into a strong position. Opening batters Shayan Jahangir and Shamyl Hussain shared a 37-run stand in five overs before Vipers hit back with quick wickets. Jahangir scored 28 off 30 balls, including a six and two fours, while Hussain only managed nine. Soon after, Abdullah Shafique was caught and bowled for eight, leaving the 2024 PSL champions at 49-3 inside eight overs. Farhan Yousaf and Parvez Hossain Emon tried to arrest the slide with a 44-run partnership, bringing the total near the 100-run mark. However, Yousaf was dismissed for 22, leaving his side in trouble. At this stage, captain Bracewell arrived and soaked up all the pressure alongside Emon. Bracewell hit 46 not out off 23 balls, striking four boundaries and three sixes, while Emon remained unbeaten on 47 off 33 balls, including three sixes and three fours. For Desert Vipers, Khary Pierre picked up two wickets. In response, Desert Vipers struggled to build momentum against a disciplined bowling attack. Usama Mir was the standout performer, claiming three wickets to dismantle the middle order. The Vipers’ batting lineup faltered under pressure, with wickets falling at regular intervals. Despite a few cameos, they could not keep up with the required run rate and eventually fell short by 38 runs. The victory marks a strong start for Lahore Qalandars in the Global Super League, with their batting depth and bowling firepower on full display. The partnership between Emon and Bracewell was the highlight of the match, showcasing their ability to handle pressure and accelerate when needed. Usama Mir’s bowling performance was equally crucial, as he consistently struck at key moments to keep the opposition in check. The Qalandars will look to build on this momentum as the tournament progresses, while Desert Vipers will need to regroup and address their batting concerns ahead of their next fixture. The GSL continues to provide exciting cricketing action, with teams battling for supremacy in the tournament. The match was a testament to the competitive nature of the league, with fans enjoying a thrilling contest between two strong sides. Lahore Qalandars’ comprehensive victory sends a strong message to their rivals, establishing them as one of the teams to beat in the competition. As the tournament unfolds, the Qalandars will aim to maintain their winning form and secure a place in the knockout stages, with the ultimate goal of lifting the trophy.
