Aroosa Khan faces criticism over outfits in vlogs

Aroosa Khan is a Pakistani news anchor and digital content creator who has gained considerable public recognition through her television career and growing presence on social media.

She became more widely known after her marriage to investigative journalist Iqrar ul Hassan, but over the years, Aroosa has also worked to establish an identity of her own in the media and digital space. Today, she is recognised as a TV presenter, social media personality and lifestyle content creator.

Aroosa remains active on platforms such as TikTok and YouTube, where she regularly shares glimpses of her daily routine, family life, outings and personal experiences.

Her mini lifestyle vlogs have attracted a sizeable audience, with many followers appreciating the casual and relatable style of her content. Through these videos, she often gives viewers an insight into her activities, public appearances and moments spent with family and friends.

However, Aroosa’s social media presence has also occasionally attracted criticism. Like many public figures who share personal content online, she has faced mixed reactions from social media users over her appearance, clothing choices and the way some of her videos are filmed.

In particular, some online users have criticised her choice of western-style gym wear featured in certain videos. Her traditional outfits have also become a topic of discussion when videos use close-up camera angles that focus heavily on her upper body. Similarly, some of her vlogs show her wearing fitted T-shirts, which have prompted negative comments from sections of the online audience.

Despite the criticism, Aroosa continues to remain active on social media and regularly interacts with her audience through new videos and updates. Her content covers a variety of subjects, ranging from lifestyle moments and family gatherings to public appearances and everyday activities.

The contrasting reactions to her content highlight the scrutiny faced by Pakistani celebrities and media personalities on social media. While some followers praise Aroosa for her confidence and modern approach to content creation, others openly express their opinions about her fashion choices and presentation.

Aroosa, meanwhile, has continued focusing on her digital presence and professional activities. Her growing popularity demonstrates how television personalities are increasingly using platforms such as TikTok and YouTube to connect directly with audiences beyond traditional television.

With her regular uploads and public appearances, Aroosa Khan remains a familiar name among Pakistani social media users. Although her content sometimes becomes the subject of online debate, the continued attention surrounding her videos also reflects the strong public interest in her personal and professional life.

Pakistan cricketers to receive CPL NOCs on August 19

LAHORE: Pakistan’s contracted cricketers heading to the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) will have to wait until August 19 to receive their No-Objection Certificates (NOCs), as the national domestic calendar takes priority. According to sources, the CPL is scheduled to begin on Friday, with the tournament final set to be played on September 20. However, Pakistan players involved in the domestic National Champions Cup will not be released for overseas commitments until the competition concludes. The Champions Cup is being played in Multan from August 11 to 18, meaning the players selected for the tournament are expected to receive their CPL NOCs from the following day. Several Pakistan players have CPL contracts this season, including Saim Ayub, Shadab Khan, Usman Khan, Muaz Sadaqat, Naseem Shah and Sufiyan Muqeem. These players are also representing different teams in the Champions Cup, creating a scheduling clash between domestic and franchise cricket. The decision means the players will join their respective CPL franchises only after completing their domestic commitments. Meanwhile, Usman Tariq and Haseebullah Khan are also set to feature in the Caribbean tournament but are not part of the Champions Cup squad. Their availability is therefore not affected by the domestic competition in the same way. The NOC timeline has attracted attention because the CPL is an important opportunity for Pakistan players to gain experience in overseas franchise cricket. For the players involved, the challenge will now be to make a quick transition from domestic cricket in Multan to the Caribbean conditions. The Pakistan Cricket Board’s approach also underlines its emphasis on ensuring national players remain available for domestic competitions before taking part in overseas leagues. With the CPL running until September 20, Pakistan fans will be closely watching how the country’s representatives perform once they join their respective franchises.

Jeff Hiller earns Emmy nod and unexpected ChatGPT comparisons

Actor Jeff Hiller has earned his second career Emmy nomination for a performance that lasted just seven minutes, but it is the unexpected comparison to ChatGPT that has amused him the most. Hiller received a nomination for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for his appearance as Larry in Apple TV+’s science-fiction drama Pluribus. The actor recently addressed the reaction during an appearance on The Daily Show, where he admitted he never expected viewers to compare his character to artificial intelligence. “I’ve heard this. A lot of people have said, ‘You’re just like ChatGPT,’” Hiller said while discussing audience reactions to his role. Reflecting on his performance, he joked that his original intention had been very different from how viewers interpreted it. “I was trying to convey extreme love for her. And instead, I did ChatGPT. Anyway, I got an Emmy nomination for it. Sometimes you aim for one target, you hit another,” he said. In Pluribus, created by Vince Gilligan, Hiller portrays Larry, a cheerful biker who shares a memorable conversation with Carol, played by Rhea Seehorn, in the fourth episode of the series. The show is set in a world where a mysterious virus has transformed most of humanity into a blissfully content hive mind. Carol is among the few people who remain unaffected, and her interaction with Larry becomes one of the episode’s defining moments. The scene, in which Carol questions Larry about the intentions of the hive mind, ultimately earned Hiller widespread praise and an Emmy nomination despite his limited screen time. Speaking about his chances of winning at this year’s ceremony, Hiller remained characteristically humorous. “I’m not gonna win,” he joked before revealing the acceptance speech he believes would fit the unusual journey of his performance. “Suck it!” he quipped, laughing at the idea that his role had resonated with audiences in such an unexpected way. The nomination marks another milestone in Hiller’s career. It is his second Emmy nomination in two years, following his success for portraying Joel in the final season of HBO’s critically acclaimed comedy Somebody Somewhere. Since then, Hiller has continued to build an impressive television résumé with guest appearances in series including Elsbeth, Ghosts and Widow’s Bay, further establishing himself as one of television’s most dependable character actors. His latest recognition also highlights the impact a brief but memorable performance can have, with just seven minutes on screen proving enough to leave a lasting impression on both viewers and Emmy voters. The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards nominees were announced earlier this month, with Hiller among the contenders in the guest actor drama category. The ceremony will honour the year’s best performances across television. While Hiller insists he is not expecting to take home another Emmy trophy, his humorous response to being compared with ChatGPT has become one of the lighter moments of this year’s awards season, showing that even an unconventional audience reaction can become part of an actor’s success story.

Sindh announces August 4 school holiday

The Sindh School Education and Literacy Department has announced that all public and private educational institutions across the province will remain closed on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, in observance of the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA). According to an official notification issued by the department, the holiday will be observed on 20th Safar 1448 AH, marking the annual commemoration of Chehlum. The decision applies to all government and privately managed schools operating under the administrative control of the School Education and Literacy Department throughout Sindh. The notification stated that the closure was approved following a decision taken during a meeting of the provincial Steering Committee held on February 12, 2026. It confirmed that all educational institutions under the department’s jurisdiction would remain closed on August 4 to facilitate the observance of the religious occasion. Chehlum is observed every year on the 20th of Safar and marks the conclusion of the 40-day mourning period following the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), his family members, and companions in the historic Battle of Karbala in 680 AD. The occasion holds immense religious significance for Muslims, particularly for those who participate in mourning gatherings and commemorative processions held across the country. As part of the annual observances, mourning processions featuring Alam, Tazia, and Zuljinah are expected to take place in several cities and towns across Sindh. Thousands of devotees traditionally participate in these events to pay tribute to the sacrifices made by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and the martyrs of Karbala. In light of the large public gatherings expected during Chehlum, the Sindh Home Department has also announced additional security measures aimed at maintaining law and order throughout the province. A day before the school holiday notification was issued, the Home Department imposed a province-wide ban on pillion riding for the day of Chehlum. The temporary restriction is intended to strengthen security arrangements and minimise the risk of any untoward incidents during the religious processions and gatherings. Authorities have clarified that the ban forms part of a broader security plan implemented each year for major religious occasions. Law enforcement agencies have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the measures while facilitating the safe conduct of mourning events. In a separate notification, the Sindh Home Department also announced the extension of Section 144 across the province for another month. The renewed restrictions came into effect on August 1 and will remain in force as part of ongoing efforts to preserve public order. Under Section 144, several activities have been prohibited throughout Sindh, including wall chalking, public rallies, demonstrations, and the open display of weapons. The restrictions are designed to prevent any activities that could disrupt peace or pose security concerns during the mourning period. The provincial government has urged citizens to cooperate with the authorities and follow the issued guidelines to help ensure that Chehlum observances are conducted peacefully and securely across Sindh.

US says it will deepen security role in Asia

The United States has rejected suggestions that it is reducing its involvement in Asia. A senior Pentagon official said Washington plans to strengthen its position in the Indo-Pacific and maintain what it considers a favourable balance of power in the region. US Undersecretary of Defense for Policy Elbridge Colby made the remarks during a speech in Manila on Monday. He said the United States was not leaving Asia. Instead, Washington was increasing its focus on the region. Colby also called on US allies and partners to take greater responsibility for their own defence. He said Washington wanted stronger partnerships rather than relationships based on dependence. According to Colby, the United States expects its regional allies to increase defence spending and strengthen their own military capabilities. He said greater responsibility from partner countries should not be interpreted as a sign that Washington is abandoning the region. Colby argued that stronger allies would contribute to stronger deterrence and help maintain regional stability. The Pentagon official said the US strategy includes maintaining a credible military presence along the First Island Chain. The strategic area stretches from Japan through Taiwan and the Philippines toward Borneo. It is considered important to US efforts to deter potential military threats in the Indo-Pacific. Colby said the United States was committed to maintaining a balance of power in the region. He also emphasised the need for allies to contribute more to regional security. His comments come amid continuing questions about the long-term US security commitment to Asia. Some regional governments and analysts have expressed concerns about whether Washington will remain as deeply involved in the Indo-Pacific as it has been in previous years. Colby sought to address those concerns by stressing that the United States intends to remain engaged. The Philippines is the first stop on Colby’s Southeast Asian tour. He is also scheduled to visit Indonesia, Thailand and Cambodia. The Philippines is a longstanding US treaty ally and has strengthened defence cooperation with Washington in recent years. The Pentagon official’s remarks are likely to be closely watched by US partners across the region. Washington is seeking to strengthen cooperation with allies while encouraging them to invest more heavily in their own defence. The approach reflects a broader US strategy of sharing the security burden with regional partners while maintaining a strong American military presence. Colby said the goal was to build capable partners rather than create countries that depend entirely on US protection. He maintained that stronger regional partners would make the overall US deterrence strategy more effective.

Houthi attacks kill 38 Yemeni troops, dozens injured

Houthi missile and drone strikes killed at least 38 Yemeni government soldiers and injured 29 others on Thursday in one of the deadliest attacks in recent years, according to medical sources. The assaults targeted military camps in Marib and Hadramawt provinces, including positions near the Saudi Arabian border. Security officials said one of the missiles struck troops during their morning assembly at a military camp in Marib, causing heavy casualties. Military sources said the attacks hit camps in the Al-Ruwaik area of Marib as well as Al-Abr and Al-Wadiah in Hadramawt. The strikes left dozens of soldiers dead or wounded, with officials warning that the casualty toll could rise as some of the injured remain in critical condition. The latest violence comes as Yemen’s long-running conflict has intensified following recent regional tensions. Last month, the Iran-backed Houthi movement expanded its military actions after renewed hostilities involving Iran and the United States. The group resumed attacks after a period of relative calm, including strikes on government forces and maritime targets. In a separate incident last month, Houthi fighters killed 16 government-aligned soldiers during an attack south of the strategic port city of Hodeidah. Yemen has been devastated by conflict since 2014, when the Houthis seized the capital, Sanaa, forcing the internationally recognised government to relocate. The rebels continue to control much of northern Yemen, while government forces hold large parts of the south. Although a UN-brokered truce reached in 2022 significantly reduced large-scale fighting, the agreement eventually expired, and sporadic clashes have continued. The latest attacks highlight the fragile security situation and raise fears of further escalation in a war that has already claimed hundreds of thousands of lives and created one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises.

European wildfire crisis claims three firefighters in Greece amidst scorching heatwaves

Three Greek firefighters have lost their lives whilst tackling aggressive wildfires on the island of Crete and the southern mainland, as an unprecedented surge of summer heatwaves continues to fuel devastating blazes across southern Europe. The relentless arc of fires, stretching from the Atlantic coast to the eastern Mediterranean, has forced over three hundred and thirty thousand people to evacuate their homes and hotels. Firefighting services across the continent remain pushed to their absolute limits as high temperatures, prolonged drought, and powerful wind gusts exacerbate the risk of fresh outbreaks and reignite previously stabilised zones. In Spain, Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez announced that the national government had taken over disaster management after a massive wildfire near Madrid reached an unprecedented operational emergency level before ground crews managed to stabilise its perimeter. Meanwhile, French emergency services in the Gironde region continue to battle historical forest fires that have scorched over forty-four thousand hectares of land and injured more than a hundred firefighters. As the European Union coordinates extensive international aid, deploying aircraft, specialised vehicles, and emergency personnel from member states including Poland, Romania, and Portugal, climate experts and EU officials warn that rising global temperatures are making European fire seasons longer, hotter, and increasingly difficult to contain.
