Barbie sequel talks hit roadblock as negotiations …

The huge success of Barbie made a sequel seem almost inevitable. After all, the 2023 film became a global phenomenon, earning more than $1.4 billion at the worldwide box office and turning into one of Warner Bros.’ biggest hits ever. Fans quickly began asking when Barbie and Ken would return to the big screen. However, the road to a second film has become more complicated than many expected.

Recent reports suggest that negotiations for a Barbie sequel have reached a major roadblock. Warner Bros. is reportedly still working to secure new agreements with key members of the original team, including director Greta Gerwig, co-writer Noah Baumbach, and stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling. None of them were contractually committed to a sequel after the first film, meaning fresh deals must be negotiated before production can move forward.

Adding to the pressure is a reported deadline tied to the film rights. According to recent reports, Warner Bros. has until December to finalize arrangements for a sequel before certain rights could revert to Mattel, the company behind the iconic Barbie doll. That deadline has increased the urgency of the ongoing talks.

The creative side of the project has also played a role in the delay. Following the release of the original film, Greta Gerwig repeatedly said she did not have an idea for a sequel. She explained that she had poured everything into the first movie and was not thinking about a follow-up at the time. More recent reports, however, indicate that Gerwig and Baumbach may now have a potential story in mind, but they are reportedly keeping those details private while negotiations continue.

Money is believed to be another major factor in the discussions. Reports claim that salary demands and profit-sharing arrangements are among the issues slowing progress, with all sides trying to reach an agreement that reflects the original film’s enormous success.

Despite the current challenges, a sequel has not been ruled out. Industry insiders believe there is still strong interest from both the studio and the creative team to continue the franchise if the right deal can be reached. For now, fans will have to wait as negotiations continue behind the scenes, hoping Barbie’s next adventure eventually makes its way to theaters.

US embassy alerts citizens over worsening security…

The United States has issued a fresh security advisory for its citizens across the Middle East, urging them to remain vigilant and be prepared for possible evacuation as regional tensions continue to rise. The warning comes amid growing concerns over the security situation, with US officials cautioning that conditions could deteriorate without notice. Through its embassies in Israel, Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, the US government advised American citizens to consider leaving the region if it is safe to do so or to be ready for immediate departure should the security environment worsen. According to the advisory, the current instability has increased the risk of unexpected security incidents, flight disruptions, and temporary airspace closures. Travelers were warned to expect airline cancellations, delays, and changes to flight schedules, and to remain informed through official sources and their airlines before making travel plans. The US Embassy in Oman noted that several airlines have delayed the resumption of scheduled services, while others have canceled flights on specific routes due to the evolving regional situation. Americans in the region were encouraged to review their travel plans and prepare for rapid evacuation if circumstances require. The advisory also urged US citizens outside the Middle East to carefully reconsider any plans to travel to the region or transit through it. Travelers were advised to monitor the latest airport and airline updates before departure and remain aware of changing security conditions. US officials warned that American diplomatic facilities, businesses, and other interests have previously been targeted during periods of heightened regional tension. The statement added that threats to US interests could extend beyond the Middle East and emphasized that areas previously considered safe may also face increased risks. The US Embassy in Jordan specifically advised American citizens to avoid visiting military installations and to stay informed through local government alerts, including emergency sirens and public safety announcements. Citizens were encouraged to follow instructions from local authorities and regularly check updates from the US Embassy. As part of the advisory, Americans were also instructed to avoid demonstrations, large public gatherings, and areas with a heavy security presence. They were encouraged to maintain a low profile, monitor local media, and remain alert at all times. The State Department further recommended enrolling in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), which enables the US government to provide security updates and facilitate communication with citizens during emergencies.

Lionel Richie takes a dig at Chris Brown during co…

Lionel Richie has sparked a conversation among music fans after taking a pointed swipe at Chris Brown and Usher during one of his recent concerts. The 77-year-old music legend made the comments while performing with Earth, Wind & Fire in Phoenix on August 11. During the show, Richie compared the current R&B tour featuring Brown and Usher with the tours he performed decades ago with the Commodores and Earth, Wind & Fire. (People.com) Richie suggested that Brown and Usher were not doing something completely new by bringing two major R&B performers together for a large-scale tour. He pointed out that the Commodores and Earth, Wind & Fire had already been performing major joint shows about four decades ago. However, Richie’s comparison took a sharper turn when he referenced the legal troubles surrounding Brown. He joked that the biggest difference between his generation and today’s artists was that his group members had not gone to jail. The comment appeared to be a reference to Brown’s past legal issues. (Billboard) The remark quickly spread online, with clips from Richie’s concert gaining attention across social media. While some fans viewed the moment as an amusing example of the veteran singer defending his generation’s legacy, others debated whether the joke went too far. Richie later appeared to soften the tone of his comments. He described both Brown and Usher as “fine Christian men” and suggested that the internet often creates unnecessary controversy around celebrities. (People.com) Brown, for his part, did not appear to take the comment too seriously. The singer responded on Instagram with a playful message directed at Richie, calling him “paw paw” and adding laughing emojis. His reaction suggested that he viewed the exchange more as friendly teasing than a serious feud. (TMZ) The comments come as Brown and Usher continue their joint R&B stadium tour, which launched earlier this year. The collaboration has attracted considerable attention because both singers are major figures in modern R&B, with their careers spanning different eras of the genre. Richie’s own career gives him plenty of experience with massive R&B performances. As a member of the Commodores and later as a solo artist, he became one of the most recognizable voices in popular music. For now, there is no indication of a serious feud between the three singers. Instead, Richie’s remarks and Brown’s playful response appear to have created an unexpected exchange between two generations of R&B stars.

Europe to witness rare total solar eclipse today

A total solar eclipse is set to occur today, offering skywatchers across parts of Europe an opportunity to witness a rare astronomical phenomenon, according to Arab media reports. The eclipse is being described as the first total solar eclipse visible from Europe since 1999. The event will be particularly prominent in western Spain and Iceland, where observers will have the chance to see the Moon completely cover the Sun for a brief period. The total phase is expected to begin at around 6:27pm local time in the areas where the eclipse will be visible. Near Iceland, the period of totality is expected to last approximately two minutes and 18 seconds, making it one of the key locations for viewing the phenomenon. However, the eclipse will not be limited to areas experiencing totality. Several major European cities are expected to witness a significant partial eclipse. In Madrid and Barcelona, around 99% of the Sun’s disc will be obscured, while Paris is expected to experience approximately 92% coverage. London will see about 91% of the Sun covered, while Berlin is expected to experience an eclipse of around 85%. The exact appearance and timing of the eclipse will vary depending on the location of observers. Parts of Africa, Canada and the United States are also expected to witness the eclipse in its partial form, although the degree of visibility will differ from one region to another. Eclipse not visible in Pakistan Pakistanis will not be able to observe the solar eclipse, as the astronomical event will take place outside the country’s visible path. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has said that the eclipse will begin at approximately 8:34pm Pakistan Standard Time. It is expected to reach its maximum phase at around 10:46pm before ending at approximately 12:58am. Since the entire event will occur during nighttime in Pakistan, the eclipse will remain below the horizon and therefore cannot be seen from the country. The Meteorological Department has also indicated that another major astronomical event is expected later this month. A partial lunar eclipse is scheduled for August 28, but this event, too, will not be visible from Pakistan. Solar eclipses occur when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun and temporarily blocks some or all of the Sun’s light from reaching certain parts of the Earth. A total solar eclipse occurs when the Moon completely covers the visible disc of the Sun for observers located within the narrow path of totality.

Pakistan rejects Imran Khan’s sons’ allegation…

The Government of Pakistan has categorically rejected allegations by the sons of former Prime Minister Imran Khan that he has been kept under a seven-month communications blackout and denied access to his family, lawyers and doctors, terming the claims “unsubstantiated” and contrary to official prison records. In a detailed response, the government said documented records showed that Imran Khan had continued to receive visitors, legal access and medical care during his imprisonment, rejecting what it described as an attempt to create an international controversy without evidence. According to the government, since the beginning of his conviction, prison records show 198 meetings involving more than 900 visitors, including family members, legal representatives and political associates. It said Khan was also allowed a weekly meeting with his wife, with the latest meeting taking place on 4 August 2026, the same day his sons made allegations of a communications blackout during an appearance on CNN. The government said prison authorities maintain records of approved visits and communications, including WhatsApp and landline calls with family members in Pakistan and abroad. It added that Khan’s last call with his son was recorded on 21 March 2026. The statement said any temporary restrictions were imposed under Pakistan Prison Rules, court orders and security requirements applicable to high-profile prisoners, particularly due to political activities outside the prison. “There is no prohibition on access; it is regulated under the law,” the government said, adding that prison meetings cannot be used as unrestricted political communication channels. Rejecting claims regarding medical treatment, the government said Imran Khan had received regular medical examinations by specialist teams and medical boards from institutions including the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS), Shifa International Hospital, Shaukat Khanum Memorial Hospital and Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital. The government said Khan underwent treatment for a retinal condition, including five intravitreal anti-VEGF injections, specialist examinations and retinal imaging. It added that his latest specialist assessment was carried out in July 2026, with further medication and follow-up care prescribed. According to the official statement, medical records describe Khan as “oriented and stable”, with no reported acute or unmanaged deterioration. The government said disclosure of medical reports remained subject to legal procedures, patient confidentiality and ongoing proceedings before the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Addressing the issue of Khan’s sons’ travel to Pakistan, the government said the matter involved separate processes relating to NICOP and visa requirements. It stated that overseas Pakistanis holding a valid NICOP are eligible for visa-free entry and rejected what it called an attempt to present an administrative matter as political victimisation. The statement also detailed the facilities provided to Imran Khan in prison, saying he was being kept in a separate compound with accommodation and amenities exceeding minimum requirements for prisoners in the same category. The government maintained that Imran Khan was being treated according to constitutional guarantees, prison laws and court directives, while insisting that no individual was entitled to a separate legal framework or exemption from security regulations.

Eight bodies recovered after Broad Peak avalanche

Rescue teams have recovered the bodies of eight mountaineers following the devastating avalanche on Broad Peak, while the search continues for two missing climbers. Another victim has been identified, but the body remains trapped in an area that rescuers have so far been unable to reach. Speaking to the media, the President of the Alpine Club of Pakistan described the incident as one of the deadliest accidents in the history of Broad Peak. He said a total of 11 climbers are believed to have been caught in the avalanche, triggering a large-scale rescue operation. He said the first phase of the operation began immediately after the incident. On the opening day, rescuers recovered the bodies of two climbers and also found partial human remains believed to belong to another victim. According to the Alpine Club, the first two recovered victims were a Nepalese mountaineer and a female climber from Oman. Rescue operations were carried out under extremely difficult weather and terrain conditions at high altitude. The Pakistan Army assisted the mission by providing helicopters to transport rescue teams and airlift the recovered bodies from the remote mountain. The aerial support played a key role in speeding up the recovery process. The Alpine Club president said that during the latest phase of the operation, the bodies of four Nepalese climbers and one Chinese mountaineer were successfully recovered and transported from the mountain. He added that rescuers have also identified another climber’s body. However, it is located in an inaccessible area, making immediate recovery impossible because of dangerous terrain and the continued risk of avalanches. Search teams are still looking for the remaining two missing climbers. Rescue officials said every effort is being made to locate them despite severe weather, snow-covered slopes and difficult mountain conditions. The tragedy has shocked Pakistan’s mountaineering community and highlighted the dangers faced by climbers attempting to scale some of the world’s highest peaks. Broad Peak, located in the Karakoram mountain range, is one of Pakistan’s tallest mountains and attracts climbers from around the world each year.
